Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Yankees

Much like the Jimmy Buffett concert last month, center field took some damage from the Eminem/Rihanna concerts last weekend. Like last month, it should recover, but it’s looking a little rough out there. Add in the water from storms that rolled through a couple hours before gametime, and it could be a little messy out there. It’s the domain of Rajai Davis tonight.

As expected, Miguel Cabrera returns to the lineup, playing first base.

TIGERS (career numbers off Brandon McCarthy)

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B (5-for-21, double, 2 walks, 2 K’s)
  2. Torii Hunter, RF (8-for-19, 3 doubles, HR, walk, 5 K’s)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B (4-for-15, 2 doubles, 4 walks, 4 K’s)
  4. Victor Martinez, DH (9-for-24, 5 doubles, HR, 3 walks, 4 K’s)
  5. J.D. Martinez, LF (1-for-3, 2 K’s)
  6. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  7. Alex Avila, C (2-for-13, 3 K’s)
  8. Eugenio Suarez, SS (0-for-2, K)
  9. Rajai Davis, CF (2-for-8, 2 doubles, walk, 2 K’s)

P: Rick Porcello

YANKEES (career numbers vs. Porcello)

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF (8-for-13, double, 2 HR, walk)
  2. Derek Jeter, DH (2-for-18, double, K)
  3. Brian McCann, C
  4. Mark Teixeira, 1B (4-for-18, walk, K)
  5. Carlos Beltran, RF (4-for-8, walk, K)
  6. Martin Prado, 2B (2-for-7)
  7. Stephen Drew, SS (2-for-7, double, HR, 2 walks, K)
  8. Chase Headley, 3B (3-for-6, double, HR)
  9. Ichiro Suzuki, RF (11-for-28, 2 doubles, 4 K’s)

P: Brandon McCarthy

4 batters, 12 pitches. Let’s not overwork that Yankee pitcher with a 3.99 ERA.

McCarthy FIP with Arizona: 3.82. He is that good

2.32 with the Yankees. Bad defense

dear lord let rajai hit one out here

Trying to hand the game to the Tigers but Kinsler killed them again with bases loaded on one pitch.

worked his pitch count and possibly his confidence. now we need a shut down inning.

Why on earth wouldKinsler swing at the 1st pitch in that situation and after Rajai just worked him for a walk?

Kinsler , first pitch:
.350 .366 .550 .916

That explains it.

looking pretty comfortable at the plate tonight. that, and miguel’s ankle not bothering him, are both very very encouraging.

The stats may say YES but IMHO I thought the situation said NO.

That was about the Martin Prado fileder´s choice

Even Dan & Jim thought he could have looked at a few more pitches.

J.D. Martinez has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games and is batting .375 (18×48) during that stretch.

What did that old king say? My kingdom for a hit? JD got it. Good job!

Oh, no, is Rick losing it? 4 hits now in last 2 innings.

Kate Sharp mentioned that the Yankees are the best team in MLB against the sinker

Come on now, Tigers. Don’t get stuck on those 2 runs.

Alex must be in a hurry. Second at-bat the same as the first. One pitch out.

Rick is always going to give up more hits than one would like to see. He is so suited for a team with great infield range. Should be better next year if we get Joe Church back and a year of experience from NC. Miggy has been solid this year as has Kinsler.

Now only a 1-run lead. Joe Church? LOL

Come on now Avila. At least make the pitcher work before you make an out.

Suarez ´s WAR 1.1 (3,8 defensive) Castellanos 0.3 Defense -8.9. There is only one missing piece in the IF

Can you say golden Glove

He will do that kind of plays easily

A clean save by Nathan.
Miguel helping more with the glove than the bat
The bizarro world

Always good to win; everyone in a much better mood (me included).
Ricky P is burnin’ down the house these days.
Miggy is looking a little Golden over there at 1stbase.
Anyone ever wonder where this team would be without JD? There would have been another trade.

Fun at the park tonight. I thought the Twins were going on help us but nope. Who knew that you could keep Minnesota to 1 run?

1. Rookie 1 comes up with another major league, clutch RBI AB.
2. 3-4 defense tonight was Gold Glove calibre.
3. Ricky P hits another milestone at 25 with his career best 15th. win.
A solid effort from all angles. Nuthin’ even did his job for once in a blue moon. Tori and Julio led the offense while the aforementioned 3-4 guys played lights out with leather. Nice to see Rags use his God given gift, speed, for a change. It’s nice to beat a team which had been playing its best ball, and a pitcher who has given us fits in the past. Looking forward to PriceMan tomorrow night. Maybe, we have turned the slightest corner.

The biggest disappointment of the night was Glen Perkins. A great win by the Tigers almost brought them to within 1/2 game out.
