Thursday’s lineups: David Price (and Tigers) vs. Rays

Day out of the field for Miguel Cabrera. He’s the designated hitter, with Victor Martinez getting a chance for redemption at first base after a rough afternoon there on Sunday. Other than that, the only change is Eugenio Suarez’s first start at shortstop since last Saturday.

The Rays, meanwhile, take some left-handed hitters out of the lineup for their meeting with former ace David Price. Brandon Guyer replaces Matt Joyce in the third spot, while Sean Rodriguez starts at first base in place of James Loney.

Reminder: Today’s game is on MLB Network, so if you’re not in area to watch the game on Fox Sports Detroit, you can watch it there.

Oh good: Miggy will hit worse than usual and the defense at 1st will be awful. At least Price is on the mound: the ball won’t be hit much and we won’t need 6+ runs to win.
.
Tigers need this sweep…. and MLB game of the day.

I hope David can be 90% as effective as Rick was yesterday.
More importantly, best of luck to you Greg. You are the 3 best things about this BLOG

Got that right Dan

Going to have to look it up, but Jordan Lennerton seems to be really coming on for Toledo Lately. He couldn’t buy a hit for the quite a while at the beginning of the season but is starting to compile some respectable numbers.

No longer on the 40 man roster, even if he keeps hitting the next 2 weeks, he most likely will not be in Detroit in September.

nice throw to start the game off suarez. pffft.

Suarez just hasn’t been that impressive as an infielder….not terrible but Romine is certianly a better defender. I miss Iglesias…

Suarez is ok defensively, remember he is a rookie and still makes rookie mistakes. He is not as good defensively as Romine, and nowhere near as good as Iggy (not many are).

I wonder if a veteran SS gets through waivers if the Tigers will pick one up. The picking are slim, but Suarez seems to be hitting a wall.

Alex Cobb is no joke, is he? Has that unconventional delivery, Hope our Tigers can adjust. From the beginning, I’ve always liked Romine. He’s been working with Wally Joyner and has improved offensively. I’ve read some of the nastiest remarks about him, but I think he’s the better defender. Suarez was hot when he first came up, but he’s cooled off significantly. I haven’t seen any SS with the Tigers since Trammel who can play that position like Iglesias.

Tampa has really good pitching and Cobb is just the kind of pitcher that gives us trouble.

See, that’s all it took. Suarez gets a hit. Good for him. Go Tigers!

Wagner from TheBlade ,thinks Hernan Perez is red y and right nos,the best option for theTigers. He will be among the callups, hecoulb be,again, parte of the postseason roster.
Mi best wishes forma you,Greg

ready and right now

Perez will be up Sept. 1, but is not a good enough SS to play full time. He is a 2B.

According to Wagner who covers the Mudhens ,he has improved a lot .He has been the regular SS at
Toledo.

Miggys game is off when he DH’s.
.
He hits .319 as a 1st baseman
.387 as a 3rd baseman
.196 as a dh

.
I wonder what our winning % is

Miggy tweaked his ankle last night in the first inning, that is why he is DHing.

Alex is getting hit pretty hard today.

He Dh’s about once a week. In my quick scan it looks as though he has dh’d 13 times this year and 8 of those have been losses

Being DH like PH requieres a especial effort to keep concentrstion. Its not as easy as ir looks. Most games seré Sunday games if I remember right,

Concentración and timing

Ya I just don’t think is when he excels….he will eventually be a DH for the Tigers so hopefully he learns to do it.

Ok Miggs runner on second nobody out time for some concentration

A rod allen productive out. You are right, his carecer avg as DH is
sround 250

That stat was strictly this year…i couldn’t find a career stat where I was looking.

Baseball referente csreer splits

JD needs to know the situation. With 2 and 3rd, Cobb was not going to give him a pitch to hit. Stop expanding the zone!~

He didn’t throw JD 1 pitch that was anywhere near a strike…..as soon as Miguel again didn’t get a hit i knew it wasn’t going to end well. Crap

Miggy did what he was supposed to do, move the runner to 3rd with no one out. I like JD, think he has overachieved and played very well, but he needs to bring that runner home.

Yes, JD really needed to discipline himself on that at bat.
Interesting to note that Casty was able to lay off that pitch and had a pretty nice swing on Cobb-to bad there was not bases loaded with one out at the time.
They guys simply can’t do this to their Aces. It will demoralize to the nth degree if they lose 1-0 games.

on an unearned run.

Evan Reed: charges dismissed.

Wasted again. Crap Ian it was at your head

Swinging at balls in the dirt over and over again. Too bad, Rajai’s been robbed today.

Trying to be patient. Tigers have had their opportunities.

Haven’t had many opportunities but they were good opportunities. Big boys haven’t done crap today.

Now or never…time to earn your money!

Price was incredible today, regardless of the final score.

What a shame – a one hitter with one unearned run and we get the loss – crazy

Well they didn’t earn it…..Price did.

That could be a World Series game and we lost.

Great Job Suarez! Great game dude!

At least they were not shut out by a nobody pitcher, Cobb is pretty darn good. We had chances for sure.

does this mean we get another bullpen arm back?!?!?!? I KNEW an Evan couldn’t do something that awful! https://twitter.com/Local4News/status/502532776336572416

seriously can we get Evan Reed back? Did we fully cut ties with him?

He is with Toledo.cleared waivers and was outrighted to AAA

Not on the 40 man roster, so someone will need to be DFA if Reed is recalled. Is he better than Justin Miller or Melvin Mercedes?

Hey Jason I noticed a typo in this topic’s title: it should be “Thursday’s lineups: David Price vs. Rays”.

The least amount of hits he’s given up. What a brilliant match-up. Seeing the best of the best. Sure wish we could have won.

Evan Reed can’t help this team.

Watching the post game show and they are doing a quick review of the Tiger at-bats. One after one swinging for the fences.

Good outing for David Price today . Too bad the Tigers offense did not show up .
