Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers at Rays

Same lineup for the Tigers, including Andrew Romine at shortstop. He’s batting 8-for-30 since Aug. 5 with two doubles and a solo home run. It equals his hit total from June 17 to Aug. 4.

The Rays get Wil Myers back and plug him in at the DH spot. He hasn’t played since the end of May after suffering a stress fracture in his right wrist.

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  2. Torii Hunter, RF
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. J.D. Martinez, LF
  6. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  7. Alex Avila, C
  8. Andrew Romine, SS
  9. Rajai Davis, CF

P: Rick Porcello

RAYS (career numbers off Porcello)

  1. Desmond Jennings, CF (5-for-14, double, HR, 4 K’s)
  2. Ben Zobrist, 2B (3-for-11)
  3. Matt Joyce, LF (2-for-10, HR, 2 walks, 3 K’s)
  4. Evan Longoria, 3B (2-for-11, 2 walks, 3 K’s)
  5. James Loney, 1B (4-for-10, double, walk)
  6. Wil Myers, DH
  7. Yunel Escobar, SS (1-for-5, walk, K)
  8. Curt Casali, C
  9. Kevin Kiermaier, RF (0-for-3)_

P: Jake Odorizzi

I have always liked Porcello.. I hope they score lots of runs for him early so he can get a win. Scherzer breaks my heart…he’d be closing in on 20 wins right now if it wasn’t for those two bums in the pen. Joba needs to lose 30# and shave that ugly beard and Nathan needs a couple weeks in Toledo. Two innings for those 2 and they allowed 4 hits – 2 walks – 2 runs with a blown save added in. Bring in the young guys and use those two for mop-up duty. This is really painful to watch and even Kurkjian is saying they screwed up by losing A-Jax.

The Tigers WIN when Davis leads off and Kinsler follows him. Can somebody please help Davis to NOT lunch for those outside pitches.

They simply don’t have a good game plan for zobrist

Decent start working patiently with Odorizzi at the plate the 1st 2 IP’s for 43 pitches. Porcello has 5 ground outs and a soft liner to the 2B after the double by (nemesis) Zobrist.

ricky deeeeeaaalin tonight!!

He definitely is

Nice job Rick! That is what it is going to take…. 104 pitches and a complete game!
Take notice you starters…. that will get you to 20 wins!

And Victor, you are the man. No disrespect Miggy, but what they keep you from doing gets taken care of by Victor!

rajai got that one!

hey there’s yer guy, ian, getting a RBI!

Do we dare say the boys are back?

All six runs scored after two out and none on. That’s gettin’ it done.

a sweep is what this team needs. price tomorrow.

Rick has probably been the most consistent all season.

Good outing for Ricky in St. Pete .Looks like VMART has it again . Go for the sweep tomorrow.

Saw both Loney and Longoria struggle with pop ups in the roof and they play there all the time. Anyone ever consider changing the color of these ragtops?
Joe Madden has been pitching around Cabrera for five years now.

Rockies beat the Royals Tigers are back to 1 game out . Gotta get the win tomorrow .

Would anyone disagree with Maddon on pitching around Miggy? It’s amazing whatiggy can do when he is on….

Nice game in the hill for Porcello, so fun to watch when he’s on like that.

Looks like it’s going to be a very rainy weekend in Minnesota, and a lot of rain on Saturday.

Hey folks. Been back in the hospital again. Up to 61 units of blood over the past 18 months. Will be transferred to UVA Hospital today. Enough of my whining.
1. What can you say about Ricky P?
2. What hasn’t been said about Victor M. ?
3. What needs to be said about the rest of the batting order?

I know I’ve said it over 1000 times , but Rick will not be 26 until December. He often pitches against 25 and 26 year olf Rookies. And based on his abilities, he would be a dominating pitcher in the NL. Look for Mig to finish strong.

crap Greg – sorry to hear that. Will be praying for you, we all should feel pretty stupid for complaining about the baseball game.

dangit greg i’m so sorry you’re back in the hospital again. pullin’ for you, man!!!

Sorry to hear about the hospital stay…Keep the faith we will put you on our prayer chain . Better times are ahead for you.

Greg, here is to your health and happiness!

Terrific game, possibly a turning point. Ricky has grown into quite the pitching stud before our eyes the last few years and we have been lucky they held onto him. He has composure to spare at this point. Great to see VMart do his thing. Funny they pitch around Miggy so much considering his power is missing, might change tactics for todays game.

That stinks Greg….hope it turns around quickly.

Hey Greg, get well soon. So some us veterans (baseball) like to say “that’s baseball’. The greatest game on the planet. Rich, how about your “new home” team. The Nats starter goes 7 innings of shut out ball only for the reliever to come in and give up a 2 run homer to tie in the 8th. Nats win in the 9th. KC starter gets the 1st 2 batters in the 5th and then a throwing error by the 3rd sacker. Next is a single, walk and a grand salami. We like that ’cause KC loses. And Dan, your buddy Morneau is leading the NL in batting! What a great stretch run this is going to be! Unless you are a Red Sox, Rangers, or Cubs fan. Go Tigers!

Hang in there, Greg. Keep fighting the fight.
Go Tigers.
