Friday’s lineups: Tigers at Blue Jays

Toronto 005

Apparently the Tigers had to check all their injuries at customs. Both Torii Hunter and Eugenio Suarez return to the starting lineup tonight — Hunter from a bad hand, Suarez from a bad knee. Whether their ailing offense gets back to health is another question. A meeting with knuckleballer R.A. Dickey could complicate things. He lasted just five-plus innings and walked four in Detroit June 4, but his only runs came on a pair of solo homers.

TIGERS (career numbers off R.A. Dickey)

  1. Rajai Davis, CF (3-for-5, walk, 2 K’s)
  2. Ian Kinsler, 2B (2-for-10, 2 HR, walk)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B (6-for-21, double, 2 HR, 2 walks, 2 K’s)
  4. Victor Martinez, DH (3-for-11, double, 2 walks, 3 K’s)
  5. Torii Hunter, RF (6-for-18, 4 doubles, triple, 4 K’s)
  6. J.D. Martinez, LF (2-for-3, double)
  7. Alex Avila, C (4-for-10, double, K)
  8. Nick Castellanos, 3B (1-for-2)
  9. Eugenio Suarez, SS

P: Anibal Sanchez

BLUE JAYS (career numbers against Sanchez)

  1. Jose Reyes, SS (8-for-31, double, 5 walks, 5 K’s)
  2. Melky Cabrera, LF (10-for-21, 2 K’s)
  3. Jose Bautista, RF (1-for-8, walk, 2 K’s)
  4. Dioner Navarro, DH (0-for-2, K)
  5. Danny Valencia, 1B
  6. Colby Rasmus, CF (3-for-16, HR, 2 walks, 10 K’s)
  7. Munenori Kawasaki, 3B
  8. Josh Thole, C (2-for-7, double, walk, K)
  9. Ryan Goins, 2B

P: R.A. Dickey

Victor will have a good game. He likes the knuckleball. Anibal could have a rough night with the turf.

7.50 ERA 320/.379 /.760/1.139 at Rogers Center

Patrick Kennedy from . (He has posted her a couple of times)
“Miggy has advanced the runner 84% of the time, one of the best in the league
JD has advanced the runner just 45% of the time”

Re:Patrick Kennedy…Stats are not relative…Miggy is not himself…he is playing
hurt…, as anyone can see, who watches these games on a daily bases.Still a bad, bad, decision by Ausmus…Miggy has been hitting into a lot of DPs lately,
Ausmus should have known this.what was wrong with a sacrifice bunt or shake
things up a little…there is no imagination here….someone respond to this.

Does JD know how to bunt?

Hopefully they checked their slumping bats at Canadian Customs too!! Get some new bats (buy ’em, borrow ’em or steal ’em) going for a change. It’s almost mid-August, time to get going on a nice stretch run starting in Toronto!

Kinsler is 11-73 lifetime at the Rogers Centre. If he gets a hit, they should get the ball for him.

Unlikely to matter much but Jays are missing, Lind, Melky, Encarnacion, Lawrie.

I can’t even imagine how this series will go. I don’t expect much but possibly our hitters will revive.
A little surprised EZ not playing. We certainly need what he has to offer.
Will this game be decided by a Knuckle Ball or a Knuckle Head?

Bob–listening to Buck (so far). I’m bored and annoyed already!

Yep. Mr Excitement.
— Bob

I’m sorry that swing Miguel took on his first ab and piped up wasn’t injury that is just sucking….sorry he gets paid way to much to HIT for that crap. Not injury related.

I was thinking the same thing. The surgery may affect the power, but the surgery doesn’t make you leave the strike zone. And Miguel has lost some of his plate discipline. He needs to get that back.
— Bob

I’m pretty convinced that it was physical but it’s migrated due north now.
He’s pretty much done the moment he steps in the box these days.
He is actually affecting the team negatively right now. I feel bad for him but he is not going to get out of this by swinging at bad pitches or trying to go opposite field yard.
All we can do is hope the inevitable white-hot streak materializes sooner rather than later

Hope we don’t see a Bautista back swing off of Alex’s helmet this series.

Suarez sure has trouble concentrating on anything soft to his glove. Often drops throws in from OF or in rundowns. Just did the same on the bounce after the bloop.
Jays were not hitting much before this series hope the starters keep it that way.
Oh well, here we go again.
Can’t do jack with a leadoff double then let them have their way with us after two out

Some teams just don’t waste opportunities while the Tigers continue to. Already on my nerves.

I can’t believe they gave Kawasaki a double on that….guess what boys if your not into hitting the ball you can’t drop balls in the outfield….keystone cops around here!

Any moron could see he was safe….why the hell would you challenge there…I guess we chairlift it up to the continuing poor decisions

Oh my god auto correct

I thought I had tickets to see the Detroit Tigers on Sunday; not the Bad News Bears. That is 5 fumbles in the field in just 1.1 innings and 3 by JD. That was not a double. Scoring in baseball is a joke at time.
— Bob

You called it El Tigre. Sanchez doesn’t like pitching at the Rogers Centre.
— Bob

Can’t hit, cant pitch can’t field. Not looking too good. Bums. Guess they just don’t give a crap anymore.

Anybody want to buy 2 nice seats to the Blue Jays game on Sunday, feeling pretty stupid for wasting time and money going up there.

Sorry. I already got 4 of my own.😉
And they finally scored.
— Bob

Okay there’s a start…still not happy what’s gone on so far

Miggy has been so bad hes making Avila look good!

Bob- you live in Toronto right? If you were going to give a couple of hotel recommendations of hotels close to Rogers centre and resturant recommendations what would it be?

Yes. Just north of Toronto. We have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn on Peter St. It is about a 15 min walk from Rogers Centre. The Hyatt around the corner is also nice but probably more expensive. You could also check with the Renaissance which is connected to the Rogers Centre. Hotels in downtown Toronto are not cheap; with parking and taxes you will be close to $200 for the night.

For restaurants, there are tons of them. You cannot swing a dead cat without hitting one. If you want a sports bar atmosphere then Wayne Gretzky’s is pretty cool. Baton Rouge which is right beside the CN Tower is a good place for ribs. Rodney’s Oyster Bar is supposed to be good for seafood although I have never been. There are a ton of little cafes and restaurants along Front and King St. You wont have a problem finding a place.
— Bob

Cool thanks. ….I’m not sure if we are going to spend the night or just drive home. .but I asked a sales rep who lives in Toronto and he was no help he says he literally never goes downtown anymore.

Meanwhile kc out to a 2-0 lead # shrinking

Great. Now Sanchez is hurt. This is wonderful.
— Bob

Having to pitch his arm off, because the team makes so many errors. I hope he’s OK. These guys do not look like they are on the same page.
Still can win. Go Tigers!!

GK. I just remembered my favourite Italian place. it is on King St W and is called Paese Ristorante. If you like Italian, you will love this place.
I am in Section 124, Row 23, Seats 101-104 if you want to come and visit.
— Bob

6th inning and I seriously doubt we have the ability to score again this game.
Animal has been favouring his side or back all afternoon
Second time this year the club has played so poorly that I decided not to travel to see them
I guess I should be thankful – instead just furious

True, I began watching in the fifth and the Venezuelan narrator was saying that Anibal was uncomfortable since the beginning. Shortly after he was out.
During the 7th inning break resume, I watched the wonderful defense. At least there was a reason for the misplay by Anibal fielding and throwing to first.

Oh thanks think I’m on the opposite side of the field. Section 130 row 2. Not sure of the seats. I’m thinking it’s prime territory to get killed by a foul ball. It would be nice to meet a fellow Becks Blogger! 🙂

No. Same side. You are down the left field line. Better bring your glove. 🙂 I am behind the 3rd base dugout.
— Bob

7 days of rest for Al2

Miggy, Victor, Hunter. It is now or never.
— Bob

“Right pectoral muscle strain for Anibal Sanchez, according to #Tigers. He’ll be evaluated tomorrow.”
Beck and Tigers

Hopefully, he wont miss a start. Otherwise, with these doubleheaders coming, they will have to go to AAA for 2 starters. Yikes.
— Bob

Johnson threw 22 pitches, 15 strikes (that’s good control). But there were a # of hit-able pitches, including 2B by Galvis. #Tigers

I just cannot stand to watch this mediocre or worse baseball much longer. These guys are uninspired and boring to follow! I’m concerned these guys are managed by a rookie manager this year and he has mismanaged the lineups regularly.

Rookies rebellion

We caught some magic!

Holy crap. It is the “Kids are alright” tour. I don’t believe what I just saw.
— Bob

The bottom of the order guys put them ahead against the closer

Hang on. Come on Joe.

I’m wondering if we’d be better off without Miggy in the lineup. He’s not helping. I never thought I would say that.

I feel the same way the coaching staff has to work with him.

Oh. no. Not the first batter on.

Joe is not looking sharp.
— Bob

I can’t watch,. Light a candle.

Can it ever be easy Joe…

I’m glad DD went out and got a lock down closer. sheesh.

The Blue Jays are saying the same thing.

That is the way you do it with 3-0 .Unlike the Tigers yesterday

7 straight balls. …dont get anyone up ausmus! Wouldn’t want to win

He’s going to blow it, again?????????

Davis knows the park

never a doubt – good win.

Evan = The Eternal Optimist 🙂.
— Bob

What a grab Rajai ..saved Joes ass

They may not be stealing many bases lately, but they absolutely stole that game. Thievery. Wow. Can this win get them going?
— Bob

be right back. have to change my Depends.

Suarez was not ready to be Wally Piped by Romine
The defensive replacement worked
Hardy did his job

Good thing Nick didn’t get sent to Toledo!

Well finally some homers, and at a good time. Makes up for many sins.
I think Nathan has been pretty lock down lately. He threw a lot of fastballs; perhaps the slider wasn’t working so good.
Good work by Hardy and Alburquerque.

It appears to me that Miggy is inside his own head now. When’s the last time he ever struggled like this? Years ago? He’ll need to break out of this, obviously, but he may have forgotten how.

agreed, but hey at least he is struggling now instead of in october.

….no word yet on Anibal? gimme some good news jason!

1. The Jays fail to score after the second inning.
2. BlaineAlJo hangs tough enough to pull it out.
3. Rookie 1 and Rookie 2 show the vets how its done.
Kudos to Kinsler and Rags. They had four-fifths of our hit total until the ninth. It was about time for our guys to be the victor and not the victim, even though Julio tried his best to give away the game early. In the years I’ve watched Miggy, I’ve never seen him so out of sync, not even with last year’s injury. When he and Victor are quiet, the pressure on the remaining seven becomes unbearable, I’m certain. We got to get Miggy fixed. The win was a steal, amd KC won again. Hopefully, Anabal will be okay. Time for Old Blue/Green Eyes to take it up a notch tomorrow.

that’s right – momentum is tomorrow’s starting pitcher, you know!

Except when a team’s momentum takes them to a 10-9 win. You would have been prime for those Sparky-isms. 🙂
