Sunday’s lineups: Tigers at Angels

Alex Avila gets the day off with lefty Hector Santiago on the mound. Torii Hunter gets the day off with the day game after a night game. Rajai Davis gets the start in left, with J.D. Martinez shifting over to right.

The Angels load up on left-handed hitters for Rick Porcello. Surprisingly, the batter vs. pitcher numbers aren’t as hitter-friendly as you would expect given the Angels’ history off Porcello.

TIGERS (career numbers off Santiago)

  1. Austin Jackson, CF (2-for-16, HR, 3 walks, 6 K’s)
  2. Ian Kinsler, 2B (2-for-8, double, 3 walks, K)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B DH (1-for-7, 2 walks, 3 K’s)
  4. Victor Martinez, DH 1B (2-for-11, double, walk, 2 K’s)
  5. J.D. Martinez, RF (0-for-1)
  6. Nick Castellanos, 3B (0-for-2, K)
  7. Eugenio Suarez, SS
  8. Bryan Holaday, C
  9. Rajai Davis, LF (1-for-6, HR, 3 K’s)

P: Rick Porcello

ANGELS (career numbers off Porcello)

  1. Kole Calhoun, RF
  2. Mike Trout, CF (4-for-12, HR, 2 walks, 2 K’s)
  3. Albert Pujols, DH (4-for-10, 2 doubles)
  4. Josh Hamilton, LF (6-for-17, 2 HR, 3 walks, K)
  5. Erick Aybar, SS (4-for-21, double, walk, 3 K’s)
  6. Howie Kendrick, 2B (7-for-25, 3 doubles, 8 K’s)
  7. Efren Navarro, 1B
  8. David Freese, 3B (1-for-6, 2 K’s)
  9. Hank Conger, C (1-for-5)

P: Hector Santiago

Hopefully Poercello gets that same inside (not a strike) pitch called a strike that Santiago just did against Jackson. God I hate Joyce.

Guess I have my answer and so far it’s NO he’s not gotten the same strike zone.

gk, I can’t even stand the sound of his voice. He’s defending his decision last night because it was his disretion as crew chief.

Here’s that commercial that the players say “I hit”. I sure wish they would start doing it today.

I know he’s something else…. And to sit here and have Rod and Mario defend him as a great umpire. I of course didn’t like the call he screwed Gallaraga out of his perfect game it was his whoa is me act after the fact and I’m not talking about what happened immediately afterward but in the days and weeks after. It was made all about him.
And the ways he’s called this series so far doesn’t exactly endure me towards him either.

How many perfect games have been thrown? 21, 22? If I was JJ, I would have had to retire. Couldn’t stand making such a huge mistake and robbing Armando’s place in history. Never in a million years do I believe he would have made that call if Verlander had been the pitcher or he was in Yankee Stadium.

Another day at the ballpark and another day of holes in our bats. Doesn’t really seem to matter much who is on the mound against us.

Of course when you don’t hit (besides not winning) your pitcher can have the one “bad” inning and it will be enough to beat you.

We’ve kept the Trout on the hook all series and that should be good enough for two wins easy.

Oh, crap.

Seriously. ….you gotta be kidding me

Speak of the impending “demon” here’s the ridiculous “bad” inning.

Brain dead mistake by AJ. I’ve seen him do that too many times and word will start getting around now.

And the official scorer doesn’t give AJ an error. Huge error.

Wow we are getting hit with a wicked storm. Power flickering a bit wind really blowing hard

here, too. Just went outside to put my rain barrel out and it started hailing.

C’mon Miggy!

Mental E,it does not go the score. Even if they are worse

Miserable at-bats. When is this going to end?

Jeez nobody wants/can hit not even Miggy. Lord help us.

Got a bad feeling about this upcoming inning. I think this is the time the Trout shows he has teeth.

It was a baby tooth single and Pujols stranded him. Rick is hanging in there. What was AJ’s “error?” I’m on Gameday.

After Jackson caught the ball he just lobbed it back in as Aybar stole 3rd and then ran home. No one noticed.

Where’s the pitch track graphic?

Fox Trax…..there it is.

He does not hit as DH. He wont be one until 2018 or 2019

I’ve noticed the same thing, he does not like DHing. I would rather put him at 3B to get VMart at 1B and let Torii DH or even Castellenos. Miggy loves playing the game, keep him on the field.

Angels’ 7th inning. 3 LH batters. Rick’s big test.

OMG! Rick struck out the side. Can’t that put a charge in Tiger bats?
Sooooo, Rick might have a shutout going if AJ etc had played heads up on Aybar?

Rick made a throw to 2nd and i went into CF where AJ casually lobbed it in not paying attention to Aybar who proceeded to stroll home. The physical error was on Rick but mental error on Austin.

i didn’t go into CF, the ball did.

Really I thought I saw you…haha

PH Hunter. One pitch out of the strike zone and he is out. Davis one pitch out. Hurry up now boys. Gotta catch that plane and get home where you play worse than on the road.

Brutal plate appearances today. Why would Ausmus waste Hunter (Avila has to play if Doc is PH for anyway) when Avila is a LHB?
Only thing I can think is Torii might have good numbers vs Smith.
Looks like RP could end up the season stuck on 12 Ws. They just are not supporting him.

HOPE THEY DIDNT EXERT THEMSELVES TOO MUCH. . Sorry but they have had lazy crappy ab’s all weekend except Thursday. Sorry its indefensible no matter how this turns out.

Well, it just turned out. Of the Park. Game over?

Probably could have just played Kelly and Romine. They couldn’t do any worse..

Isn’t that the truth. I can only wonder what happens when the White Sox hit town.

4 days to make the call if JD became Boesch/Shelton. A LHB would be a good addition. They will be 21-12 vs LHP after this so no problem there.

How many pitches did Ricky have? Sorry Ricky for ruining another great performance.

Game over these guys are pretty crappy right now and are wasting our time and Mr I’s money.. Playing well before break pretty shitty afterwards. Good pitcher bad pitcher doesn’t much matter they probably couldn’t hit me.

Even GK is getting disguted so you know it’s bad…

Most people on here would think I’m disgusted all the time! Hahahahah

When’s the last time Miguel did anything clutch?

But I’m sure your fine Miguel you’ve made your 165,000 dollars for the day.. Bums.

Two days ago. He put the team ahead for Smyly

1 hit…..didn’t quite cut it did it?

They day before put the game away

The game against Dbacks

They actually should be somewhat ashamed of themselves.

6 hits Friday, 4 yesterday and a whopping total of 3 today.
Wiffle bats.
Thanks Rick for showing fans some skill today. That was worth watching and would have been considered a gem under different circumstances.

If there’s no offense, the last thing you can do is make mistakes in the field. Rick started it with the bad throw but Jackson should have thrown to third immediately. Aybar was only halfway there and could have been gunned down. Instead, Austin decided it was a nice time for a nap. That was so bad it made even ME yell at the TV, and that never happens.
If we draw LAA in the postseason, forget about it.

You know, all that talk about Jackson doing so well and igniting the team as the leadoff hitter; well, he goes into huge slumps so what happens then? You just saw it. I spent all last season saying the leadoff hitter has to be consistent, not streaky, and here we are again.

Yes, the misplay stood out big time. Just no excuse for not paying attention My one complaint about Austin Jackson is that he plays the position too timid. When plays need to be made, he needs to be more aggressive getting to the ball and calling others off. I don’t think he’ll change, however. Get these guys some 5 hour energy.

Kathy, The ball was rolling back fair.

Castellanos should have let the Kendrick bunt roll. It may have stayed fair, but picking it up accomplishes nothing. Rookie mistake, I guess.

Dan Dickerson‏@Dan_Dickerson·6 mins
…now, in 13G since start of 2011, Tigers have scored 23R in 13G (1.8R/gm) at Angel Stadium, hit just .178 w/ .258SLG, 2R or fewer 10 times

I’m trying to remember. They have reached 15 games over .500 three times, I believe. Each time they started losing. Is the air too thin for them at that altitude?

STOP PLAYING THAT KID ROCK SONG, CHEVY! This is “Like a Rock” all over again. That commercial is everywhere, sports or not.

1. Ricky P. stands tall, even if all alone.
2. Ricky P. strikes out the side in the 7th.
3. Ricky P. has 0 walks.
Yes, it was the Ricky P. show. Can you believe this guy won’t be 26 until December.
I don’t even fault Joba for this loss. It falls on a lineup that murders average pitching, and bombs against above average guys. Tori running into one? he wanted to show Rags that he swings at the first thing he see too. I know some of you guys like Davis a lot. I had my doubts, gave him another chance with the slam homer win, but changed again when he had a print of himself on his jersey. He has an ego twice his size, and will never be the team player we need. Just my opinion. Don’t go crazy on me. Everyone clamors for Doc. Doc gave us nothing today. No one gave us nothing except Rick. We might very well win the Central, but it will be one and out in the playoffs. It’s just so disheartening to see 2-5 do nothing over three games. Miggy must rise to the challenge and the occasion. If he’s hurt, fix it. Kinsler is driving me insane. Agreed that Alex can’t hit hot butter, but by Sabemetrics, Oakland would love him because of OBP. The Angel Pen royally embarrassed our guys over the weekend. I’m done now.

A print of himself on his jersey? Where? Rajai Davis did not lose this game all by himself. Take a look at his stats I used to love it when Pudge, Sheff and even Victor have done their post game interviews shirtless. Big egos? Yes. All of them. Even Don Kelly.

I agree about RD. His main asset is raw speed and if he is not using it (and he is NOT) then take advantage of the near.300 average and the not so long ago walk off grand slam and get the LHB we need.
DD should still be looking at Sipp, Perkins et al. You can’t have too many good relievers. We just witnessed that.
Ive heard opinions that the team doesn’t hit when Miggy doesn’t hit. I actually think the opposite may be more true. I think Miggy “feels” it when no one is hitting and tries to do too much.
I would not be surprised if DD makes a trade today and it very well could be Rajai.
Very discouraging to waste our highly vaunted rotation. You have serious troubles if those guys throw QS (and much better) and you can’t win.

Kathy the print being talked about was likely a wrist (sweat) band and not a jersey.

Yes, a wristband that was made by a company named Mimsbanz. Wristbands that people can order and buy of a player they like. Some guys have shoes created for them, too. A lot of pllayers have mimsbanz.
We had 3 hits today and none from Miggy and no one after Victor. And, an error and an unearned run. Mr. D does not like unearned runs. So, sure let’s trade Rajai who wears armbands and can’t steal enough. That will solve everything. I’m done.

Want one? Here’s the iink!

Just a comment on umpiring..How does an umpire blow a call in which he is right on top of? Referencing the call that was reversed by challenging the call at first base…
Saurez was the runner, called safe, initially, then reversed….What does that say about the umpiring?Could you imagine all the games which were won and lost
were at the hands of some of these umpires.. at least 40-50 per cent
of these calls at second base are reversed by challenges…Maybe they need
camera robotics umpiring or better umpiring.
Also…We need a way to at least try to scratch out a run, maybe by taking more pitches or bunting, this team depends too much on the long ball, which is why they’re
not getting run production…It’s all been said before….
