Saturday’s lineups: Tigers at Angels

Angels 001

Brad Ausmus sticks with last night’s lineup, this time against a right-hander in Michigan native and Eastern Michigan University product Matt Shoemaker. His splits — .297 average and .829 OPS against left-handed hitters, .252 and .727 against righties — are very similar to Friday night’s starter, lefty Tyler Skaggs.

The Angels called up J.B. Shuck from Triple-A to help fill in for Josh Hamilton while he’s dealing with the sore knee that forced him out of last night’s game, but Efren Navarro gets the start in left field. More of a surprise, Erick Aybar moves up to bat cleanup. Ageless ex-Tiger John McDonald, essentially traded for himself down the stretch in 2005, gets the start at third base for David Freese.

TIGERS (no career numbers off Shoemaker)

  1. Austin Jackson, CF
  2. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. J.D. Martinez, LF
  6. Torii Hunter, RF
  7. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  8. Alex Avila, C
  9. Eugenio Suarez, SS

P: Justin Verlander

ANGELS (career numbers vs. Verlander)

  2. Mike Trout, CF (1-for-3, HR, walk)
  3. Albert Pujols, 1B (7-for-12, 2 doubles, HR, 6 walks, 3 K’s)
  4. Erick Aybar, SS (9-for-27, 2 doubles, 2 walks, 2 K’s)
  5. Howie Kendrick, 2B (5-for-21, 2 doubles, 6 K’s)
  6. Efren Navarro, LF
  7. C.J. Cron, DH
  8. Chris Iannetta, C (1-for-5, K)
  9. John McDonald, 3B (1-for-5, double, K)

P: Matt Shoemaker

Rajai is getting he short end of the stick and has all year. I’m not particularly wild about RD but he has shown he deserves to play. He is a guy that can ignite a team. In the last month we have seen so very little of that. It is up to him to make the most of any opportunity he is given. I’d play him ahead of Torii. I’d give a slight edge to JD. Austin right now is dangerous and he is the only guy in that OF that should be guaranteed a start every game.

Rajai should have played yesterday since the pitcher´s splits favored him. Or at least entered as PH. PH not PR in a lost game

even if the splits NOT favored him

It was sample too little to use Avila or bench Davis

Carp could be available

Add Miller and Boston could be a good trading partner again

” Brad Ausmus said Andy Dirks will work out Monday and if all goes well, he will restart injury rehab assignment, likely in Lakeland”.
Who goes?

They do need him, Good bye, Kelly

Whos your back up 3rd baseman and first base really? If Miggy went down early in a game you couldn’t move Victor out of Dh spot to 1st without losing your DH? What we don’t need is 5 outfielders.

Romine and JD
