Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers at Diamondbacks

Interesting move by Brad Ausmus, who moves Rajai Davis up to second in the order and slots everyone else down. That means Miguel Cabrera bats cleanup in a regular-season game for the fourth time this season, all in Interleague Play. Ausmus also plays the matchup with a day game after a night game and goes with Don Kelly, 4-for-7 with a home run off Trevor Cahill, in right field.

Why not JD 357/1056 vs RHP. Davis cant hit against RH

Because what he does is inexplicable.

“Because what he does is inexplicable.” Ausmus? What he did last night was worse than that. Horrible. They were already leading 4-3. AZ had just put in a LHP to face Avila. That was the time to PH with Davis. Even if he did not hit, they still have Porcello with only 77 pitches and virtually no bullpen. If Davis did hit, they have an even bigger lead. At that point, so what if Suarez and Porcello make outs. They have a 2 or 3 run lead with their best available pitcher still on the mound. The Ausmus decisions in that inning were krappe.

Avila hitting into a DP would’ve been better than the SO on an 89mph fastball. Ricks turn wouldn’t have come then.

Avilia was up with runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out. So the double play would have been highly improbable. That said, Avilia’s at bat in the 8th was horrible. He got a hanging breaking ball at 2-2 and yanked it wasy foul. Inexcusable. In that situation, he should be trying to drive in runners by going up the middle. Pulling that pitch is just greedy. I usually defend Avilia, but he has to do better. Has to!

Why you yelling at me I didn’t like last night either?

I hear that JD has a quad issue. It was silly to bat Rajai 8th in the first place, so I’m glad to see Brad using some imagination today.

Like I told my wife (whom I’ve NEVER yelled at) early in our marriage, “You’ll KNOW when I’m yelling.” :)

Bright minds think alike:
“RT @jamesschmehl: Why bat Miguel Cabrera cleanup today? “It just gives Rajai a bit more freedom to run because he’s not in front of the pit…”

Maybin suspended for amphetamines

Not yelling. Still venting. It will take awhile for that to go away.

I’ll give credit to Avilia for that at bat, took it to the LF gap. Needs to do that more, stop trying to pull everything.

LH kills Cahill. It is Cahill not our batters

LH vs Cahill 350

So ElTigre, what is Avila’s BA against RHP and LHP?

RH:228 .362 .404 .766
LH:217 .270 .304 .575

Rod just said that Brad called last night’s PH decision a no-brainer. All of these managers are Jim Leyland, aren’t they?

Ya I heard that too……. whatever Brad.

He got that right. No brains. Avila’s stats are much better vs RHP. Thanks ElTigre. I bet you’ll see the opposite for Davis.
.
And now for the second time in this game, Miggy comes up first in an inning. I guess it doesn’t matter if he’s not hitting either.

We’re at that 2 or 3 runs again. Those numbers have been bad for the Tigers.

I will never understand when a batter or a pitcher/catcher asks for an appeal on a check swing and will refuse to grant it. I just don’t get what it hurts? Will it hurt their ego too much?

They only would do it they have not called it yet. Yes, the ego

Batters cannot ask for an appeak of a check swing. That has what has gotten Miggy in trouble. If the home plate ump calls it a swing, it is a strike, no appeals.

Whatever hitting magic tigs had before the break has disappeared for the most part.

6 for 9 vs Cahill? Don Kelly

Nice Aj

AJ not usually good in those situations. This time was great! The challenge certainly changed this game.
.
Anibal has only 34 pitches. If he can continue the good pitching, he could go deep. Less for the BP.

There goes Sanchez again. What is it with him?

My guess ? the shortened ST and the DL stint. He is going thru the same bump in the road , the rest hit one month ago

Sanchez pitched 7 or 8 innings in 6 of last 12 games. 8 QS

What looked like a laugher not so laughy anymore.
.
Its not jusr Sanchez I feel like a lot of these stars have been prone to a big inning.

Not being able to field his position is really costing Anibal. Really annoyed right now.

What more do you need to see Ausmus. Freaking get Sanchez out. Are you brain dead there are people who are warmed up.

Maybe he should be a long reliever because he simply can’t pitch 3 times thru the lineup.

He used too.

6 times last 12 games

Why not Joba for Avila?

Miggy!

2 out of 3 very good. Trying to forget that 3rd one that could have been a sweep.

Series win and on to LAA land. Both Oliver and Hardy pitched today. Could Stan and Laurel be playing somewhere ?? I miss seeing Laurel and Hardy. Joba should get a save for what he did.

Promising- Miggy, AJ, and Hardy too.
Sidenote to my compatriot in TO:
Bob, what do you think of Buck Martinez?
Personally I think he is the most uninspiring and boring announcer I have ever heard.
There is no excitement, emphasis, surprise, wonder or any other attribute that connotes any sort of emotion. If you tune midstream into a barn burner, a major comeback effort, a scoreless tie or a division changing event, you would not know the difference. I don’t know how well regarded he is in Toronto but my guess is he can’t be “loved” by the fan base much. I don’t think he has ever recovered from the time he was concussed at the plate on the play where he tagged two runners out!!
It seems to be rubbing off on his partner (Pat Tabler?) now too. Thank goodness for Mario and Rod!! That said–even though I have not listened much this year to radio broadcasts, we should all be very thankful for Dan Dickerson.

Some of my viewing today was interrupted by this dumb job I have to perform or they unreasonably refuse to pay me.
Going into LAA, this is one of those times you hope for a split.

Next time they go to Coke or Krol, how about Blaine Hardy instead? Let’s see what the kid can do. Sometimes it pays off.

Moya 2 for 4 today with his 25th HR and 81st RBI.
(Also drew a walk ET!)

Just got home and when I left the score was 7-3. Lo and behold, I sneakily checked the score……11-5. DVR’d it so now I can relax and watch the power show.

1. Three double plays by a solid defensive showing; even VMart’s foul catch was solid.
2. We got the lead and kept the lead with a little drama in between.
3. JobaHardy did a great job today. Joe not needed.

Kudos to Ajax, Alex, Miggy, Rags, and Donnie Baby. All made great contributions with the stick. Romine contributed with his glove, so we had the whole team involved today. Anabal needs a killer instinct. Still a quality pitcher. Hardy did have some wicked breaking stuff today. One Pitch Joba got two outs in a hurry. What could have been broom time, still ends up as a successful start on the road. It’s time for Mad Max on Thursday. Rookie 1 and Rookie 2 will be in tomorrow night. Hope they get hot again.

Soria? Are you kidding me?

Oh, lord, look what we had to give up.

It is a win in the Valley . Rest up boys the Halo’s are waiting for you…

LAA is not going to be easy. 2-2 would be great. KC and Cleveland will be beating each other up.

Soria was the guy I was most hoping for. DD got busy and got something done. Good on him.
