Sunday’s lineup: Tigers vs. Rays

With lefty David Price on the mound, Rajai Davis and Austin Jackson switch spots in the batting order. Jackson in particular has struggled mightily against Price, but he has been hitting lefties better this year than in previous seasons.

Victor Martinez, meanwhile, remains out. The watch now rolls over to Tuesday’s series opener against the Dodgers.

Cleveland “Klubered” KC so they won’t gain any ground today. Now the Tigers have to figure out how to get to Price, a high strikeout pitcher. Rick may need to throw another shutout to win this game and tie the series.

With all the talk about his being traded soon, I’m sure he wants to make a very good impression on national tv.

Scherzer to the ASG. He deserves it. 2.88 FIP while Porcello is at 3.75.

I’d rather see Porcello go….he might yet from what I understand Tanaka and Davish won’t pitch

Awesome start!

So much for a shutout. It was too much to expect anyway. But now the Tigers have to score off Price. Oh, my.

Score a lot too…..this is probably over before it barely started. The downward pitching cycle begins again.

TB is a poor hitting team? I wouldn’t bet a red cent that the Tigers can come back from 3 down against Price. They really do have a jinx about playing on national TV. Well, start looking for some other entertainment tonight. Next are the Dodgers with 2 strong SP’s set to go. At least not Kershaw.

How many teams have we met this year that were hitting poorly and we just turn them right around?

Gotta get the ball down Rick…….

These guys get into a hitting funk and then the SP’s follow very quickly. We need another bat in the lineup and a Starting Pitcher to cover for Smyly! Dirks isn’t the answer.

Last tuesday game was on ESPN too

17 pitches through the first two innings. Brilliant strategy to try to face price for nine innings. Can anybody take a pitch foul a pitch off anything? No try to hit homers on the first pitch. Excellent idea!

Why did Rajai bunt there?

nice throw suarez!

Kinsler got jobbed.(ASG)
Will take a team effort to eke this one out.
I’d rather see JD in RF.
Agree about Dirks. Can’t expect him to be himself when he gets back. And “himself” is actually pretty average. Not a game changer. Solid player but it is looking more and more like we will need someone to put the ball out of the yard with Miggy not doing it as much, and only the Marts supplying much power. Either one of them could tail off from their current production levels.

Even the Molina batting .174 while he didnt get a hit put together an 11 pitch ab to run up the pitch counts

We need Miggy to play like he has in the past. I know the numbers are good but there is something else going on that just ain’t right.

Ausmus wanted to give him a break to recover mentally but with Victor out,It cant be done. ESPN reported

He makes a jillion dollars a year…I don’t care sorry but he needs to do what he’s paid for.

Miggy 2 at bats and he’s seen a total of 2 pitches. His hitting this year while still ok not what you’d expect. He especially with Vmart out needs to put this team on his back. He hasn’t. I don’t know if he’s not feeling well but he looks disinterested for sure.

JD on ESPN: I studied Miguel But now , after watching him daily Im surpised by his intelligence. I know he is Miguel Cabrera, the best but still surprised by the way he bats.
I ask him and I still have doubts I go with Victor.
Miguel is brilliant but dont study. He trust his memory and his personal knowledge ( NB:McClendon said the same) Victor study all the time, he is all the time in the video room and reads the reports

He wanted to put the ball in play in the first and he did, got anRBI

Where the heck is Dirks anyway? I’d just as soon see Carrera.

Teams hit over .400 swinging at first pitch against David Price according to Dan & Jim. The chances to get a hit declines with every pitch he throws. There’s a chart somewhere.

Maybe. ..so I guess that means Tiger’s are just way suckier than everyone else. .
.
Two plays not made by Tiger’s have cost us one run so far about to cost another. One by Suarez one by Castellanos

Great he got an Rbi……get a hit get a homerun. He makes too much not to do more. It’s been quite a while since he’s done more. If hes to exhausted he probably shouldn’t go to the all star game. .

9 hits for TB so far, 2 for Tigers.

Time to watch something else. Embarrassing themselves again.

The downside of pitching for contact

Maybe but our supposed strikeout pitchers have been worse.

Scherzer has a FIP lower than Porcello., the defense has failed him. As Porter put it, each time you put the ball in play you can score. No way to score with a K
Scherzer is having a better season than Porcello according to the stats.
It was a matter of time before something like the last two games happened.

Porcello hsd a few plays tonight that cost him 3 runs. I don’t buy into all that. I don’t know about after tonight but his era and he did a better job all year of helping this team to win.

That is the problem; the ball jumped over the SS glove and got faster you have a run. A K and no runner to score

1. A grand slam would have tied the game.
2. Price didn’t make the whole nine. Ha!
3. Tori/2hit day/outfield assist.

As you can see, I couldn’t find three things to like about tonight’s game. Again, we are playing embarassball rather then baseball. Three days running, we allowed TB pitchers to control the game. This thing of having fifty pitches thrown in the sixth inning is insane. I’d rather be struck out by Price and see 3 or 4 pitches, than to hit the first pitch fastball to the outfield. We keep talking about this juggernaut of an offense, but it doesn’t show up against above average pitchers. I love Julio, but he’s getting old too with his perfunctory HR in the 9th, when we are down by 41 runs. Miggy might as well be out of the lineup; two hits in game one, and dead in the next three. I am also sick out of skin, as i watch Ian and Rookie 1 swing straight up like they want to touch the Moon with a baseball. For Rick tonight, no hidden secret;everything was served on a hig platter with a sign that read: HIT ME!
And the Rays of all people get 19 hits. Tiger pitching has been a magic formula for half the Rays hitting woes. It was just a pathetic performance for a professional sports team. I wouldn’t have voted for any Tiger to start in the AS game. Rick should
have been picked. The fans should not vote for players who don’t have All Star Stats.

It hurts to lose as badly as we do. The team may not be exactly uninterested but they don;t seem to be interested enough in changing things that are problems.. Greg pointed some of them out. Casty rarely squares up on a ball. I mean, rarely. He tops it or he flies to centre or right. I have no doubt he will become a much better hitter. As a fielder, he is not one of those guys thats “wants” the ball hit to him. Quite the opposite. He actually is shy of the ball though I would contend he has done an adequate job in spite of that flaw.
Porcello gets hit, simple as that. He was really lucky the last time out that the balls were hit at his mates. Granted he was sinking the ball nicely-not today. If he can’t keep the ball down and get a few Ks he will get hammered.
The Doug Fister trade looks worse every day.

Moya hit his 21st tonight. Don’t trade him Dave.

@GulllermoCelis
“Dice José Molina que David Price no estaba en su noche…… menos mal.”
“Jose Molina says David Price was not at his best… thanks goodness”
