Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Athletics

No Victor Martinez again tonight as the Tigers proceed cautiously with his sore hamstring. J.D. Martinez is the designated hitter once again. The two big changes from Monday are that Austin Jackson is leading off, with Rajai Davis moving down to the ninth spot, and Bryan Holaday will catch with the lefty on the mound for a second consecutive night.

Initially, manager Brad Ausmus left open the possibility that Victor Martinez could work his way into the lineup if he felt good during batting practice. Martinez took swings without any apparent problem, but didn’t do a whole lot of running. After a discussion between Ausmus and head athletic trainer Kevin Rand, however, Victor Martinez was ruled out.

Remember the old Twins lineup?

Don’t forget Cuddyer

We have the game on ESPN

Rick looking good so far …..our hitters on the other hand? I guess the only one who’s ever seen him was Kimsler so I guess one time through the order before I get too annoyed.

They got this guy for a dollar?

Hey, what’s the story with the inner change between GK and gk??

I think it’s the difference between posting from my cell or from the ipad

Tigers have a 3 run lead lets hope Ricky can hold them . Go Tigers !!!

He still looks really good.

old man Rick is STINGY! 6 months ago – would you have imagined we’d a different martinez hitting behind miggy and doing damage!?

Great Job Ricky !!! Huge win for the Tigers lets chase Oakland back to the west coast ….

Hell of a thing Ricks got going right now…..95 pitches one of the most easily pitched games I’ve seen by a Tigers pitcher since Gallaragas perfect game. ( and yes I mean perfect game)

Zeroes Porcello??? How does that sound???

1. Seventeen outs didn’t leave the infield.
2. Zero walks against the A’s.
3. Julio refuses to leave the lineup.
My last line in my post last night mentioned Ricky spinning a yarn against the A’s. Our #4, at the ripe old age of 25, has become our most consistent and dependable starter.
No flair, no blazing fastball; just good Greg Maddux type pitching. I’ll take that anytime.
You also saw a game played in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Congratulations Mr. Porcello;you’ve earned it. Kudos to Julio again; the guy is homer crazy. We’ve been able to rest Victor because of his cousin Julio. Remember this is the A’s, with the best record in baseball. We’ve got our two; how badly do they want the sweep?
Also kudos to Rookie 2. AJax’s performance just breaks my heart; he is totally lost right now. Finally, Miggy, stay consistent through a three game series. Your turn Justin. What’s it going to be?

Great game. Did Rick even get a K?
A little bit worried about our hitting though. If it wasn’t for JD today we would have been in a lot trouble.
Batting AJ 1st is confounding.
Even the announcers are on the AJ bandwagon now-everything he hits is celebrated as a coming out or getting close party. Fact is it won’t be long before he will be 0 for 30. Eventually poor numbers become unable to spin.

I thought even though he didn’t get a hit AJ actually hit the ball hard in a night nobody except Jd Martinez hit the ball hard. Unfortunately they were right at somebody.

Oakland is an excellent ballclub but the Tigers have clinched the season series. Good to keep that in their minds for later if necessary.
Don’t know what superlative to use for Porcello’s last three starts. Tonight I also was thinking of Galarraga’s game. Game ended while it was still daylight.
I suppose Oakland is also worried about their hitting.
Dirks will soon return and the outfield will become crowded. Things will work themselves out.

Tampa Bay will be headed in soon and have just won 2 from the Yankees .Their club is improved from the first part of the season .
