Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers at Rangers

Texas 013

Torii Hunter is feeling fine, Brad Ausmus says, but he’s getting one more day before he rejoins the starting lineup. Considering he’s 2-for-22 lifetime against Colby Lewis, there’s a clear benefit to the patience. Rajai Davis and Austin Jackson both have hit Lewis well. J.D. Martinez has never faced him, but he’s hitting everybody well these days.

Texas, meanwhile, has called up a familiar face, Carlos Pena, and put him in the lineup at first base against the left-hander Drew Smyly. It’ll be Pena’s return for his original team playing against another of his old teams.

No batting practice on the field for the Tigers today due to a round of storms that came through Arlington this afternoon. The worst of the weather stayed just to the west, and the severe weather is supposed to wind down with scattered storms this evening.

Love it when a 3rd base coach runs you into an out a home with a very slow player

It made no sense to me either , VMart was out no real chance of scoring.

As usual smyly throws too many pitches. Doesn’t help himself with bad throw to 2nd and not getting butt over to first. Only has himself to blame.

Exactly it was an “Aw Shucks” throw and an “Oh $hit” cover at first. Don’t know how we end with so many opponents we simply can’t get out

Joyner has to convince NCAA to get that swing levelled off. It is a very obvious
Problem

Boy we are scoring so many runs we are going to continue to run into outs…..,gotta love it! Jeez.

Where did anybody ever get the idea AJ was a base stealer? Sad.

After Avila failed to do his job and Suarez coming up (who is not hitting)–why not?
AJ needs to remember how good it feels to get down and dirty. if he had read the pitcher a little better he would have had the bag. I liked the play.
I also predicted the AA strikeout. The guy can hit with no one useful on base but too often watches 3rd strikes (and good ones) go by when it really matters.
I’d like to see some interest in him in July.

And we run into yet another out! Just about fed up with these guys tonight!

We are giving away outs on the basepaths like we are giving out candy at Hallowe’en. Cripes.

Guess the only way not to run yourself into an out is put it over the fence

Al will hit DL before august

No complaints from me. Tigers win!

Okay, that’s five in a row. 18 runs in two games. Six consecutive good to excellent starts. Three game lead over KC, five in the loss column.
I don’t have a problem with the steal attempts themselves. There are multiple ways to score from 3rdbase. The execution has to improve, however. They’re not doing it right.

And credit Alex Avila. 3 hits!
Castellanos looks horrible as does Miggy. Go figure

Looks like Miggy’s swing is off .He is swinging way too low.

Seemed like the comments ended when the Tigers went ahead. Coincidence, I guess.
Smyly falls off to the 3rdbase side so he has farther to run to cover first. Bad throw from Suarez. Should have led him to the bag. Suarez was shaky out there tonight.
Considering those 10 homers JD hit in Toledo combined with an adjustment he had made, he might be for real. That would really help going forward.
Chad Smith has nice sink on his 2-seamer but has to keep it down. He does have secondary pitches? Haven’t seen any.

what a game :) JD, Alex, Rajai, AJ, Smyly, and Ian were gnarly tonight!

1. Tigers get 8 runs, and Miggy is not even missed.
2. Smyly continues the evolution in becoming a steady five starter.
3. There’s a little fizz in Coke after all.
Kudos to Alex, Julio, and Rags. Avila is swinging the wood better; maybe he fears a job loss if he doesn’t wake up. Good to see Ajax with good wood, Ian with his HR, and Victor being Victor. Migg and Rookie 1 took the night off. Their night comes tomorrow. SP’s continue with solid starts, and we’ve been in every game. Time to crush Texas while they’re down. Annabal might throw a no hitter tomorrow. Smith will be fine, with some work down the road. It sure is nice to win.

Brad said we would be aggressive. He did not say we would always be successful. The last 30 days JD has led the team in OPS. If he stays hot for six more days he might be the Tigers’ Player of the Month for June. That’s four QS in a row for Drew.
Go Tigers!!!!
