Tigers re-acquire Daniel Schlereth

The latest left-hander in the Triple-A Toledo bullpen is a familiar face who was there before. With Patrick McCoy and Blaine Hardy both in Detroit for the near future, the Tigers re-acquired Daniel Schlereth from Pittsburgh on Tuesday for cash considerations, sources confirmed to MLB.com.

John Wagner, the esteemed Mud Hens beat writer for the Toledo Blade, was the first to report the move. Schlereth was immediately assigned to the Mud Hens. Since he wasn’t on Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster, no big-league roster move had to be made.

Schlereth’s previous Tigers tenure ended in Toledo two years ago, when he was on rehab assignment in August for a partial labrum tear. He did not get a September call-up, and he ended up being non-tendered after the World Series. He spent last year at Triple-A in the Orioles system, then signed last offseason with the Pirates, which is how he ended up in Indianapolis.

“Great to be back,” Schlereth said in a text message to MLB.com. “I feel like I’m at home now.”

The numbers at Indy have been fairly ugly: 18 2/3 innings pitched, 18 hits, 19 runs, 15 earned, 18 walks, 18 strikeouts and five hit batters. Nine of those runs, six earned, came in his last four outings since May 30, allowing six hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings.

Left-handed batters are 7-for-30 off Schlereth this year, but he has walked seven others and hit three more.

Again, it’s purely a depth move for Toledo at this point. Though Schlereth made 73 appearances over a three-year stretch in Detroit after being acquired from Arizona in the Max Scherzer/Curtis Granderson three-team trade, he’s not in the Tigers’ picture.

Crazy!

Development on Rule 7.13. Effective immediately, umpires instructed not to apply it on force plays at home plate.

I don’t know all the ins and outs of these things, but what would Toledo do with someone posting those numbers? They want to win games too. Was Daniel just the guy they could get in uniform the quickest?

What does this say about Krol and his dead arm?

Absolutely nothing. Whether Krol misses two weeks or two months, Toledo needed an arm, and the Tigers didn’t want to rush anybody else up from Erie or Lakeland.

thanks

Be sure to play lots of catch with Danny Worth. Pay attention while you are doing it too!!!

Lineup: Davis, Kinsler, Cabrera, Martinez, Martinez, Castellanos, Jackson, Avila, Suarez.( the one with no Dracula complex) Smyly starting.

my 3 y.o. has this same complex. comes out when he gets excited.

Don’t know anything about soccer but am assuming biting is frowned upon.
Didn’t even look like human teeth marks.
Smyly can throw the curveball tonight and see if the hitter bites.

It would not be his first time. Suspended in the Premier League for the same offense. Bite or not, both players deserved to get a red card. One for the aggression and the other for hitting back

Third time. He did the same in Holland

Interesting stuff at the World Cup. Sometimes the passion doth go too far tho’

Puns aside, The fellow has no business playing in this tournament after that.

It’s about time Miggy shows Beltre who is the better hitter. He sure hasn’t look like that tonight.
