Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Royals

Torii Hunter and his hamstring are out of the starting lineup today. Hunter said he has soreness, but he’s hoping to be back in time for the series in Cleveland this weekend. It sounded doubtful that he’d be available to pinch-hit.

  1. Rajai Davis, LF
  2. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. J.D. Martinez, LF
  6. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  7. Austin Jackson, CF
  8. Alex Avila, C
  9. Eugenio Suarez, SS

P: Max Scherzer

ROYALS (career numbers off Scherzer)

  1. Nori Aoki, RF (0-for-2, walk, K)
  2. Omar Infante, 2B (1-for-3, K)
  3. Eric Hosmer, 1B (6-for-28, 2 doubles, 2 walks, 8 K’s)
  4. Billy Butler, DH (12-for-50, 2 doubles, 2 walks, 9 K’s)
  5. Alex Gordon, LF (12-for-31, 3 doubles, 2 HR, 7 walks, 4 K’s)
  6. Salvador Perez, C (8-for-21, 2 doubles, 2 HR, 3 K’s)
  7. Mike Moustakas, 3B (3-for-26, double, 8 K’s)
  8. Alcides Escobar, SS (7-for-32, 2 HR, 7 K’s)
  9. Jarrod Dyson, CF (1-for-14, 3 K’s)

P: Yordano Ventura

One overlooked detail. Verlander GB rate has increased. usually, that is a good sign, As we gave discussed before unless you have one of the worst defenses in MLB.
BTW: JD Martinez is the only average defender( currently) in the OF. DRS has Hunter as second worst after Kemp, But they can field a FB.Suarez has been there only one week. Until 2 outings the left side was less than solid.
His HR /9 remain better than his career rate. 62 pitchers including Tanaka and Scherzer has allowed more HR 9 ( both) than him 8.
He was killed by singles last night

I asked this morning and I have an answer:
“Now, could some bad habits — because of the injury — have crept into his mechanics and caused the issues?” he said. “Now, that I think is a possibility” Ausmus

Another Tiger game to watch……………..ho-hum

Verlander first in pitches . Scherzer 4th

When is the last time we were in second place??

july 2nd

Thanks, El T.

8 straight batters on base. I really do not believe what I am seeing. This is Bizarro world stuff.
— Bob

KC is batting around in the 2 nd inning !! What did we do to deserve this ??
7-0 Royals in the lead . Maybe the Tigers offense comes alive soon .

Click over and out.

geez, “bizarro” is right. very grim.

A very short night. Total collapse by Max. What a nightmare.

wow, more than 50 pitches in one inning

i’m not going to lie, i was tuning in to the game just now (7:50pm eastern time) and expecting a 1-0 or 2-0 tiger lead……not a 7-0 KC lead.
With that said I remember in 2005ish we went into a hole like this against to KC (or was it BAL) and I entirely gave up on the game – went fishing down the road. Boy was a I pissed to know we won. A victory tonight could be a turning point on the season, so stay tuned friends.

7-2! yea austin jackson BABY!

Just looked at the score…….wake me up when they start playing

The battery partner in the CG was Holaday,Why is Avila there? he is comfortable with Holaday. Allow him his personal catcher

Morosi:”Tigers are only MLB team to have 2 pitchers on top 10 list in pitches thrown since start of ’11: Verlander (1) and Scherzer (4).”

There playing the lefty/righty thing again. They need to play their best and the guys need to go out therre and have fun. PITCH and HIT

BTW: phil coke has redeemed himself IMO.

How he just walked in a run

well he had been better lately. but tonight, i think he i might have jinxed him and he is, no longer, redeemed IMO.

Coke. Reed. Avila. Hunter. The team would be better without them

This team would be better with pitchers who claim to be aces who actually pitched like aces heck I’d take serviceable right now instead of crappy pitchers.

This team has a gray cloud over it! Bases loaded our best hitter up, a wild pitch,
ball bounces back to the catcher and he proceeds to throw out our runner trying to get back to third..third out..end of a possible rally of sorts….the whole team needs to go to church…really
That relief core is terrible, including the pitching coach…sad, very sad…

What the point of breaking Albuquerque´s arm in a 10-4 game?

At times like this, it’s good that the season is so long.
Tigers doing everything wrong at this point. Not one facet of the game working.

I’d be curious to see what would happen if Holaday caught the next few games.

Since the game sucked, here’s a little scenario that I hope is entertaining if nothing else.
Worth is playing shortstop and Kelly is in RF. Scherzer has just thrown his 35th pitch in the second inning. You bring Worth to the mound to finish the inning while Kelly replaces him in the infield. Max goes out to RF. In the third Max goes back to the mound and the bullpen is saved some innings.

My prediction has come true. Unless we gain the split, KC leaves town in first.
What’s going wrong right now:
1. Upton’s Assets
2. Max seeking more assets
3. Nathan and Hunter no longer being assets
Left the game in the second inning. UVA is tied with TCU in 8th.
Maybe Annabal will catch a falling star!

sounds like we can kiss our assets goodbye

BOS fan just listened to the game with me. He asked when I think the pitching coach will be fired. I don’t him I don’t know, but what do you guys think about Jeff Jones job security?

If things don’t turn around, I think he should get his resume ready.

Looks like it isn’t just JV & Nathan not pitching to their potential, huh? Like I said earlier, the one common denominator in this catastrophe is the pitching coach. What exactly is he doing? The argument can be made that Max became a CY winner under his tutelage, but maybe, just maybe, Max found that little extra something on his own or from another source. Either explanation is as rational as the other. What isn’t rational is the poor pitching from the entire staff right now.

Someone is going to lose a MLB job. Maybe more than one person.

Usually it is a coach that gets the axe first. Maybe even a front office person . In this case there is more than enough blame to go around . Someone has to be shown as the problem .

I would also like to see Holaday catch more games Rich, including the next couple. Hunter as a starter weakens the team. He might be a plus as a bench player if he’d be willing to do it. Agree with you El T, concerning the four players you mentioned. I would think Avila would be an OK option as a backup catcher. Coke and Reed are blocking any building process (if that is even possible) in the BP. Release them sooner than later. Need at least one out of the next 2 against KC to hang on through this awful stretch. They are good but not that good. They are getting breaks but when you play well the breaks seem to fall your way.

Who are you thinking of Dan?

Jeff Jones could be the fall guy in this mess. That doesn’t mean it’s his fault, but that’s what often happens in these situations. I don’t think veteran pitchers like Verlander and Scherzer should need their hands held by a coach. Not at the money they get or will get.
Still waiting to see what happens with a different catcher.

So do veteran hitters not need a hitting coach? No matter the player or position, at some point they all need somebody else to help them determine what’s wrong and correct it. Salary and years in the league are irrelevant. Jeff Jones has had the luxury of an above average starting rotation that hasn’t needed much help, which made him look better than he probably deserved. Now that there are very evident issues, he appears to be as lost as the pitching staff.

Well Reed for one but Jeff Jones is the perfect scapegoat. Phil Coke is on borrowed time and his left arm alone will not save him.
I haven’t heard much about Torii but wonder if he ends up on the DL.

Man, just keeps getting worse and worse – getting very tough to watch these boys right now. Going to the Mud Hens Thursday, will keep an eye on their pitchers to see who I can try to drive up the road to the Tigers to help them out

Hi there everyone, it’s my first go to see at this site,
