Saturday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Twins

Weekend 006

Second straight game out of the lineup for Rajai Davis, who appeared to be fine last night both in his pinch-running appearance and afterwards. Brad Ausmus said today that Davis is healthy; he just wants to get Martinez in the lineup for another day.

“He’s swung the bat pretty well,” Ausmus said pregame. “He’s gotten some hits. He’s dangerous. We’ve had a little trouble scoring runs. He’s got the ability to drive in runs.”

The Twins, meanwhile, give Sam Fuld a start in center field, batting in front of their big trio of Mauer, Willingham and Morales. Eduardo Escobar, meanwhile, looms again in the ninth spot, now with 22 of his 50 hits on the season for extra bases (ok, 20 of them are doubles).

Reminder: Today’s game is on Fox Sports 1, not Fox Sports Detroit.

Jackson batting 5t h 301/767
6th:221/677
Dan was right: with RISP 119/371( OPS!)

Re: Jackson. That’s quite a difference, ElTigre. Why can’t Ausmus see that? Is there a problem batting JD sixth?

Or is it because Brad doesn’t bat Jackson 5th when he’s slumping, but does when Austin is hot?

I asked myself both question but we would need to know his splits month by month. Or game by game. Maybe , when he bats sixth, he comes to bat with RISP?

They had the right idea batting him 2nd.
How long before Rajai publicly sulks?
Without Kinsler going this team stagnates. This guy can pick a team up but somebody needs to pick him first.
At least we are getting Gold Glove calibre defense from Ian.

Davis.According to ESPN in español , he already did in Boston

Regarding Max yesterday on MLB channel they were talking about Max because of his complete game….they also brought up his contract and at two different times from two former baseball players (Smoltz and Eric Byrnes) they both said if Mx wanted to be here he woulda signed the contract. He just doesn’t want to be here.

Wasted opportunities start right away in the first….and it is Miggy again.

Argh…..This is me being ambivalent.

Suarez got us on the board

Wow 5 runs nobody out

Certainly not complaining about runs something which is a scarcity lately but Anibal has been sitting a long time m

Same here

Suarez for President! Oh, wait. He was born in Kenya. No, that was Cruz. Sorry, I am delirious with all these runs.

Smyly in the dugout, “Hey, where were mine, guys?” About time they gave Sanchez some run support.

glorious day in the northeast! great day to be a tiger!

Time for the bullpen. 10-1

Why keep him there ? 11-1 game

Wow Torii ……another defensive mishap?

Hunter is worse every game. He is done

They will need not one but two OF

Torii is not the defensive OF we want out in RF going forward. He half-ass tried to scoop that one hop single. We need a solid corner OF to compete. i heard all of the BB’s have scored.

Really Torii? Because it is an 11-3 game, you figure it is OK to give a half ass effort? That was terrible.
.
Can we trust the BP to get 8 outs and before they give up 8 runs?

Not with Evan Reed who is not major league ready! Now for the Coke adventure.
How could DD not see that the BP was going to be an issue after Rondon’s injury and then Putkonen most likely out for the year. Hanrahan hopefully can eat some innings and possibly replace Nathan in Sept/Oct.

Nice 7th inning?? Wow how bad. Defense. Glad we got a large lead otherwise I’d be freaking out.

VMart is as hitting machine! It doesn’t matter what side of the dish either. He just missed another HR!

Lineup needs to stay a bit more static. Suarez is killing it and needs to play everyday higher in the lineup. Austin could use some time off replaced by Rajai not Donny Kelly.
Torii is most productive hitting second, Rajai fits the 9 hole well. Alex could use a few more days off too, Holliday can at the least bunt. Scoring runs today is nice but they’ve tinkered long enough we need a more static everyday lineup!

Few cheap hits off of Phil he actually pitched better than that. He’s been a lot better over this month.

Brad says he is aware of AlAl’s innings. Why bring him in to pitch in a 7 run ball game/
Don’t get it at all.
isn’t that what Knebel should be for?

Another shakey play from Torii……..wow is he bad

AlAl was squeezed there big time. It can never be a nice relaxing laugher, can it?

12 runs and the BP is blowing it?

Like the radio crew ( Dan and Jim ) said such sloppy play by the Tigers has allowed way too many runs . Tigers were ahead 11-1 at one time . Bottom of the 8 th 12-7 Tigers .

He was squeezed and actually Coke was too.

.
Even a laugher has turned into this…I know a win is a win but how can anyone feel comfortable with this? So dang frustrating. I guess the Tigers are the only team that gives away AB’s when down a lot.

Good thing we scored 12 runs, huh?

Minnesota played this game to win the series! They were down 10-1 and Gardenhire told them to work their AB’s to use up the Tigers BP. Good strategy! Now 12-9 after a 10 pitch AB from Dozier and a mother HR. This Tiger BP stinks!

What a damn joke……..it was 11-1 a few long innings ago. What an embarrassment. Even they made 12 runs feel bad

Three things I didn’t like:
1. Lack of killer instinct after 6.
2. A Bullpen that is rudderless and blase
3. Having Anabal start the 7th with over 100 pitches and a monster lead.

Three things I did like:
1. Suarez. Iglesias who?
2. Castellanos. Rookie 1.
3. Krol’s getting Mauer with bases loaded in 8th.

A needed victory, great hitting, but it doesn’t feel great. My hat goes off to Dozier.
Had to paly when injured himself, and has a great AB. Don’t get me wrong; I bleed Tiger Royal Blue every minute, but the Twins just would not stop. Would it be that we had that kind of passion for baseball. Need tomorrow; KC in the wings, lickin’ their chops.

Greg

El t. How many pitchers have options??????

Alburquerque and Krol as long as I know

Knebel of course

Well they need to consider Smith or even McCoy. Both of them throw left-handed and both do not walk hitters.
Justin Miller has done well down there as well with the walks.
Kevin Whelan has beenoutstanding at times.
Why not?
This current cast is not working.
I expect Reed to get even worse. Coke is finished even with the recent smoke and mirrors. If Krol keeps losing hitters then maybe he should go down too. Knebel can be sent back for more work to get it right.
Can’t sit back and Hope & Dream

I agree Evan is getting close to being cut. But Krol isn’t and Coke isn’t either. This org. is in no position to be putting these guys on short leashes.

IMO Don Kelly has been looking lost at the plate. I know he does about everything but if Romine can learn 3rd and JD can keep hitting we have no need for Don once Andy gets back. And we need Andy to come back and hit – Torii and Rajai have been major contributors to our offensive problems.

A team has an 11-1 lead after six, and the last pitcher standing gets a save. No Bull! Pen

There is no point having someone in the pen that can’t get people out most of the time.. And if Krol has options and he shows signs of the same then the option should be exercised.
Coke won’t last the year. He is pitching at his absolute best right now and will return to form.

Hardy up. Who went down????

With KC and Clev coming up, how about three LHP in the BP???

A slew of division games lurking in the near future . Sure hope Tigers can somehow start playing better . A complete overhall of the pen is needed soon . When Dirks gets back review Tori Hunters defense . It is not getting better .

Wow, that game took so long that it ran right into movie night. I didn’t even have time to write my post-mortem……..oh wait a minute, we won, didn’t we?
All those hits on choppers, bleeders, and bloops. What a day. Seemed like the Detroit offense got all the breaks they were owed in this one game. That too, is baseball.
I don’t think swapping nearly the entire bullpen for the Toledo bullpen is the way to go. Corey Knebel is already here and they didn’t use him today. I wouldn’t mind bringing up Justin Miller.
Serious question: when was the last time Torii had his eyes checked? Age brings vision changes. He just doesn’t appear to be picking up the ball about half the time. Dirks might end up platooning with him.

A wholessale swap would be irresponsibly stupid. What I am saying is that if you have a guy with options who is not doing the job there are others that can be looked at. If they don’t work, there are still others.
Accepting this pen is tantamount to giving up. It may need to be fluid.
