Friday’s lineups (updated with M’s change): Tigers at Mariners

IMG_2699

It’s a gorgeous afternoon in Seattle. It doesn’t matter as far as getting the game played, since there’s a roof, but it’s warm enough that the temperature won’t be a concern, unlike many games along the April trips the Tigers have had here the last few years.

It’s a better afternoon for Rajai Davis, who’s rejoining the Tigers lineup after leaving Wednesday’s game early and missing Thursday’s game with a bruised shoulder. With Davis back, it’s a pretty standard lineup for Detroit against Hisashi Iwakuma.

The Mariners had a late lineup change with the call-up of outfielder Endy Chavez from Triple-A Tacoma. He was put into the batting order, while Stefen Romero, who was scheduled to DH, takes a seat.

TIGERS (career numbers against Iwakuma)

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B (8-for-20, double, 3 HR, 2 walks, 3 K’s)
  2. Torii Hunter, RF (2-for-10, 2 K’s)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B (1-for-7, 2 K’s)
  4. Victor Martinez, DH (1-for-3, 2 walks)
  5. Austin Jackson, CF (1-for-8, 2 K’s)
  6. Alex Avila, C (0-for-7, 2 K’s)
  7. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  8. Andrew Romine, SS (2-for-4, K)
  9. Rajai Davis, LF (1-for-9, HR, walk, 6 K’s)

P: Justin Verlander

MARINERS (career numbers against Verlander)

  1. Endy Chavez, LF
  2. James Jones, CF
  3. Michael Saunders, RF (3-for-17, double, 4 K’s)
  4. Justin Smoak, 1B (4-for-10, 2 HR, 2 walks, 6 K’s)
  5. Kyle Seager, 3B (3-for-6, 2 doubles, walk)
  6. Mike Zunino, C
  7. Dustin Ackley, DH (2-for-8, walk, 2 K’s)
  8. Nick Franklin, 2B (1-for-3, 2 K’s)
  9. Brad Miller, SS

P: Hisashi Iwakuma

No Cano?

tis out second straight game with an illness

Hey it’s damn near June. They told me Dirks would be back in June. So what gives is he beyond swinging a wiffle bat, yet?

Wow, Kinsler with 3 HRs against Iwakuma.

Wagner from the Blade:
“CROWN HIM! The King, Mike Hessman, just tied International League record w/ a HR to lead off 4th”

“Here are @MiLB home run numbers for Mike Hessman … 14th this season, 154th as @MudHens, 258 in IL (ties record), 403 in minors. #Tigers”
@jwagnerblade

dang-what to do while waiting for the tigers game?

Red sox-Rays game is interesting…

farrell and papi didn’t look happy when i was last watching

AJ should just bring his glove out to the plate with him

Isn’t that the truth ?? Really makes you wonder maybe he needs more BP.

Can’t be batting AJ 5th right now. He is unable to produce runs and this is an integral point in the lineup after the Miggy and Vic.
Hunter has some power and finds it more often than AJ. Bat AJ 2nd and let him ahead of Miggy. That or 9th

Jones must be a slash hitter- ball he hit usually finds the shortstop and Romine wasn’t even close to it

Well not sure of the verlander we are going to get tonight. Coming into tonight 1.51 whip and a 4.04 era

Jackson is hitting the ball well. 24% LD. But his babip, always too high is now below average. (I would like to know his Hard hit balls average but only MLB writers have access to it.)
In few words , he is in the same situation of VMart last year.

Miggy got all of that

2-2. Here we go again. JV………………..

I’ve said it before…..isn’t Avila throwing out more runners this season than in the past?

leads AL

So I read last night in twitter

In fact MLB, 20

first in MLB with 20 CS

Victor! Thank God he is on our team!

V-mart made em paid.

.
By the way two well hit balls by AJ just not falling in

Legendary Lloyd didn’t have the balls to pitch around Victor and paid the price. Joe Maddon would’ve walked him and pitched to a struggling AJ.

Lets hope and pray AJ does not struggle like this all season .

maybe lloyd didn’t get the memo regarding the 2014 version of Vmart having the long ball ability

Rajai “Boom Boom” Davis!

yea seriously I thought rajai wasn’t a power hitter?

i really want this one!

They fall a grand slam short of the home run cycle. Good win , didn’t expect to beat Iwakuma. Hopefully this game gets JV on a roll.

1. A 10 pitch AB, culminating in a three run bomb. For you Victor, it’s MR. VMart.
2 JV shows he can still throw the heater. Made his entire performance more Verlanderesque.
3. Might as well call Kinsler, the “Hoover Man”. He sure sucked in the one grounder, with no dust particles left.
Kudos to Victor, Miggy, and Rajai, collectively known as the “Tater Boys”. Three in one game is hard to beat. Also kudos to AA for another great throwout. Good solid defensive effort, good pitching, and timely hitting. Top that off with Joba the “Hut”, and it’s party time in the Big D. Great start to the Road Finale.

Greg

That 10 pitch at bat by Victor should be required viewing by every aspiring little leaguer wanting to see the art of hitting in all of it’s glory!! Absolutely amazing!! This 3-4 hitting combo has a chance to be one of the best in history.

It was incredible. I kept thinking “What if”? on every pitch. Figured he would crush the ball into the teeth of a well placed shift but envisioned a bomb. And the player who two years ago sat in misery while his team-mates played the game he loved came through with an absolutely iconic home run off a talented but frustrated pitcher.
VMart was undoubtedly determined to punish Lloyd for his audacity of walking Miguel (with two out) to get tho his LHB. To be able to dial up that kind of intensity is truly amazing.
