Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers at Athletics

The Tigers face left-hander Scott Kazmir, but they won’t have Austin Jackson in their lineup. He’s 3-for-14 with eight strikeouts off Kazmir, part of his nontraditional struggles agianst southpaws. Coincidentally, he gets the night off, leaving Rajai Davis in center field at the Coliseum. J.D. Martinez starts in left, while Danny Worth spells Andrew Romine at short.

It worked last night so I’ll go to bed before the game is over no matter whether they are leading or not. Good luck, Tigers.

way to take one for the teamūüėČ

Look at Jaso’s numbers there. 1 for 7 with FOUR walks. Typical. I hate guys like that unless they’re on my team.

Moneyball at its best

anyone interested in starting a winning streak?

Nice play by Davis in center…I don’t think AJ makes that?

It was gorgeous. No one else probably gets to that.

Looks like a pitching duel.

Nice Torii.
Sure nice to see a Tigers starting pitching NOT give up 5 runs in the first three innings.

I doubt AJ would have gotten that fly caught by Davis cause Davis had to fall down and get his uni dirty. Not AJ.

well he did get hurt. Glad AJ doesn’t get hurt often.

i think you bring the closer in.

Damn Crisp. Kazmir was nails tonight.
Not so wild about Nathan being able to finish this off.

Especially if you get defense like that

Castellanos screwed that up… Kids gotta make that play. Not acceptable.

Far from the line with crisp and now that must be E5

OMG, just get 2 more outs!

There you go! What a fricking waste!

game. let the second guessing begin!

It was the right call. The game was over until Castellanos was unable to handle an easy ball

Awesome Castellanos…..awesome Nathan. Unacceptable what an incredible waste. Fourth blown save…

Cant hit , cant play the field. He is not ready. There is place to get regular AB and it is not a win now team

At least play Kelly at 3B after the 7th

good point why was cast still in the game?

We thought about that also . Of course we were not in the dugout . But it might have been a good idea.

I would have let Anibal win it or lose it himself simply because I don’t trust Nathan. Too old.

Our rookie is playing like a rookie.
Looked to me like Brad checked with Anibal and he probably said he was blown out.

it did look like Sanchez shook his head no, so I too thought Brad was asking him and he felt he maybe was done. Who knows – if he keeps him in and he gives up a homerun then we scream at why did he keep him in there. Gotta be tough as a starter to see a terrific performance lost.

I can’t watch the interviews. Too upset.

I put the blame on Nathan myself. He was shaky, couldn’t throw a fastball over the plate. He has flirted with blown saves all year. Does not seem to have the confidence of steel he once had.
Donaldson was sitting on that pitch because Joe couldn’t trust his fastball and Donaldson knew it. Smart hitter.

Another game thaat should have been won . Down the drain with this game because of defense and the pen . Really one run is not enough when playing Oakland . Go try for another win tomorrow !!!

All I can say is that loss is a crime. You can’t win games like this, you are not a contender. Wasted performance by Anibal..

1. Anabel did everything he could to get us the win.
2. Miggy’s defense is really becoming above average.
3. Rajai’s great catch in Center. Agree that AJ doesn’t get that one, because he won’t take that next step to becoming a premier center fielder.
Kudos to Tori. Right now,the only differences in Joe and Jose are that Joe still has a job, and he doesn’t spit water. Have lost confidence in him. Great closers at age 39 are the exception than the norm. Granted, they throw far fewer pitches, but they still need top notch stuff, and the mental fortitude of swimming in doo doo, and not holding their breath. Continue to be disappointed by games that we lose, but clearly should have been won.

How can you let your starting pitcher down like that? I could cry. Time for me to go to bed.

Well still angry this morning….blown saves are tough to take. It’s been such a struggle lately to win games because the pitching has been horrific and to get such a well pitched game and blow it in the last minutes is really tough to take. Now for my prize of staying up I get to be all exhausted today.

Just read a couple of articles and while didn’t stay up for the post game moritorium, it sounds like Joe Nathan threw Castellanos under the bus while not taking responsibility for his own part. I will watch it later maybe but if sounds as bad live as it did in the written word, not only not impressed with him as a closer not impressed as a teammate either. He’s partially right Castellanos shoulda made the play and it did change everything, but strike out the next guy Joe, get a groundball or an infield pop up, What u did was serve up a meatball that was hit well over 300 feet.

I will have to read that – pretty sad to hear that, not what teammates are supposed to say

brad needs to nip that sort of divisive blame-game business in the bud, or it could really hurt the team’s cohesiveness.

Now that was a frustrating game to watch. Stayed awake the whole time and for that great game to be lost is just terrible. Hell of a game Sanchez – way to right the ship for the starters. Too bad we couldn’t get a few more runs that it wasn’t a loss. I love, love, love Miggy, but sometimes his aggressiveness on the basepaths is a killer to us. I love that he gives it his all, but he has to remember he is not Rajai!

It was a riveting pitching duel and a crisply played game for eight and a half innings. It’s unfortunate that it appears to be turning into a soap opera.
I was nearly as disappointed in the tweet below as I was with the game outcome:
Lynn G. Henning‚ÄŹ@Lynn_Henning¬∑9 hrs ¬∑
Ah, they didn’t like Brandon Inge. But guess what happens in that game if Inge is playing third? Ball caught. Double play.
I don’t see the point of chiding Inge-bashers at this point in time. It got pretty strange in Tiger Land after 12:30 last night.

Henning – come on – talking about a player who has not been on the team for a few years is ridiculous. Just like saying Don Kelly would make the play – we will never know would or would not have made a play. We can second guess all we want but there are no answers to second guesses. The game could have turned earlier if Davis did not make that incredible catch, had Miggy’s long foul ball gone fair the game would have been different too.

Hey today’s another day – turn the page – our young 3B is a little more seasoned, our bullpen is fresh and I’d put a round of beers on that closer being better today!
We’re number 1 in the central and we’ve got lots of room for improvement. Besides a full night of sleep is just 12hours away.

If Nathan did throw Cast under the bus – Miggy, Torii, Victor and Brad need to privately meet with Joe. a “we got your back if you have everyone else’s back, joe. that’s how we do it in the D” kinda message.

almost seemed like brad kinda tossed casty under too. sheesh new guys – that’s not how JL would have done things.

Looks like Castellanos is feeling pressure to me. Said to my wife last night that I hope they don’t hit anything to 3rd because he looks pretty nervous/shaky. Been that way for a week or so. Making the plays but very twitchy and awkward. Noticed it on a foul ball last night as well.
His swing needs to be straightened out. He is taking on some responsibility that might be weighing on him. That said–he is going to be a really productive force in this lineup and likely this year.
Last night is not on Casty–It’s on Nathan. Totally, unequivically. He threw the balls that were stroked.

I was going to mention that too. Nathan faced two hitters and gave up a line drive and a homerun. He didn’t exactly do his part in locking down the game.
Teams win and teams lose. Not individuals.

here is a link to a picture of AL ALBQ clowning around. I think in women’s clothing.

Unimpressed with Nathan as a leader in the clubhouse….what a jerk. Do your job you’ve blown 4 saves in 2 months.
