Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers at Indians

Cleveland 007

Brad Ausmus expressed confidence at Andrew Romine and Danny Worth, saying he’s “very satisfied” with the production the Tigers have gotten at short and that Stephen Drew’s free agency wasn’t a topic of internal discussion. Even so, Romine is going to get a day away from it tonight, with Worth starting against Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer. For what it’s worth, Bauer has been much more effective against right-handed hitters over his career, majors and minors. None of the Tigers, for what it’s worth, have ever faced Bauer.

The Indians made a bunch of moves, among them sending down Jesus Aguilar and activating Jason Giambi. They’ll have seven guys batting from the left side against Justin Verlander tonight.

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  2. Torii Hunter, RF
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. Austin Jackson, CF
  6. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  7. Alex Avila, C
  8. Danny Worth, SS
  9. Rajai Davis, LF

P: Justin Verlander

INDIANS (career numbers off Verlander)

  1. Michael Bourn, LF (8-for-20, 3 walks, 7 K’s)
  2. Asdrubal Cabrera, SS (12-for-57, 5 doubles, 5 walks, 23 K’s)
  3. Michael Brantley, LF (16-for-41, double, triple, 3 walks, 6 K’s)
  4. Lonnie Chisenhall, 3B (5-for-15, double)
  5. David Murphy, RF (9-for-26, double, triple, 3 walks, 6 K’s)
  6. Carlos Santana, DH (6-for-34, double, 3 HR, 5 walks, 6 K’s)
  7. Nick Swisher, 1B (13-for-73, 5 doubles, 3 HR, 11 walks, 26 K’s)
  8. Yan Gomes, C (1-for-6, K)
  9. Mike Aviles, 2B (5-for-23, 2 K’s)

P: Trevor Bauer

Hoping for a good night……it is a AAA callup and a very good one at that (a little nuts but good from all reports). I used to call it the curse of the AAA Callup. Hopefully Justin can get through 7 if not 8.

He got all of that!

Verlander in trouble already, We really need to be able to beat teams in our division.

Well I guess we aren’t getting good JV so far anyway.

Looks like “Jason” pitching tonight.

Well Justin needs to change things up……jeez. He’s not having any better ,luck throwing strikes.

So much for a long outing…….boy same thing different day. Already annoyed. He’s throwing more balls than strikes. Hope Jones waits to go out there till it’s too late. He’s aweful tonight.

They are going to have to go to the BP early. This is not a good way to start.

Very bad start. Hope Tiger hitters wake up better than JV has. And now the bullpen gets hit again with JV already over 40 pitches in 2 innings.

Here’s the Tigers we know best. Ugh, going to be hard to keep watching.

Looks like we are toast tonight. They’re going to have to call up someone from Toledo for the BP.

Not giving up yet but……….. Verlander is miserable much like last year. .

A lot like last year

April 2013 era 1.83. April 2014 2.38
May 2013 era 6.41. May 2014 4.5 not counting tonight yet

Looks like Bauer will continue to befuddle the Tigers.

the decision to send Miller down now looks like the wrong decision. Verlander @ 60 pitches in the 3rd with nobody out yet! Ouch! The zubaz have proven to be a curse.

Winning streak or not, with that stretch of games in a row you go Bullpen over bench.

Zero for the Indians. Now let’s go hit the ball to the wall.

That’s one.

What is the excuse going to be tonight?

I’d say get him out of there but who ya going to put in. Not so much an Ace! Can’t even through a strike.

Throw a strike

Guess what if your row by three please don’t run into outs trying to stretch one out. Booooo Kinsler

Three zeroes in a row for the Indians.

What few opportunities they’ve had tonight they have squandered away.

They still have 3 more innings.

Gotta be kidding me another double play…Rajai hit it hard but jeez

Castellanos’ swing has developed a serious uppercut.
He is clueless when it comes to recognizing and/or hitting a breaking ball. He has missed so many hanging sliders it’s funny.
There is so much pop in his bat-it’s a shame he isn’t swinging it properly.
Kinsler may have taken us out of the game with his aggressiveness. He had to figure double out of the box but it was hit so hard and Brantley got a great bounce and a great throw. Hard to fault Ian too much for playing the game the way he does.

And Reed gives up another run….

Funny Rod just complimenting Verlander for putting up zeros after the 2nd inning…..funny I was thinking nice try but too flipping late Verlander!

“Verlander in May? Not too shabby. He’s 29-13 with a 3.11 ERA in May over his career. Those 29 May Ws are the most by any pitcher since 2006.”
“Still, Verlander is just 9-10 with a 5.26 career ERA at Progressive Field during his career.”
Before the game

Last 2 Mays he’s been horrible over 6 era last year and I imagine once the stats update it will be about that bad this year. Over most of his career he’s been good in May but he’s trending in the wrong direction. He thinks he’s an ace and is paid to be such but I’m not so sure he is. He’s a pitcher who has had 2 great years one pretty good and the rest very average.

You are not alone in that assessment. ESPN en español has Scherzer as the Ace of the team. Still, I think years of consistency beat two seasons

JD Martinez to Toledo. Verhagen? Hardy? Mercedes? to the Tigers. Not many options there. Lack of depth in the Minors

Ugh! Good night.

Best thing I saw tonight was the hustle by Avila on his home run. I’m serious about that.

Romine has a glove to compensate for his lack of bat. The 3b not, and he is now below Avila in OPS and avg in an offense first position

They’ve embarrassed themselves tonight……as good as they looked for a week they look equally as bad the last two nights.

They are not as good as they looked last week neither as bad as they have looked these two days

Six innings from JV. Two innings from Reed. Play ball at noon tomorrow. Go Tigers!!

It appears that the hangover from the travel snafu took place tonight, just as Brad predicted it would. No surprise here.

1. Avila hitting the ball with more authority and confidence.
2. JV righting the ship enough to keep us in the game. I didn’t say he pitched well.
E. Showing up after the travel fiasco.
No kudos. Downright ugly ball. Kindler is like a drunk man on the base path. See a ossicle sweep for Tribe!
