Saturday’s lineups: Tigers at Red Sox

Boston 004

Gameday | TV: MLB Network, FS Detroit, MLB.TV | Radio: 97.1 FM, AM 1270, Gameday Audio

Standard lineup for Tigers. Altered lineup for Red Sox, who put Will Middlebrooks on the 15-day disabled list today. He fractured his right index finger trying to handle Ian Kinsler’s first-inning line drive. He played six more innings after that, including two at-bats, before A.J. Pierzynski hit for him in the seventh.

Reminder: Tonight’s game is on MLB Network outside the Detroit and Boston markets.

TIGERS (career numbers vs. Lackey)

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B (15-for-35, double, triple, HR, 4 walks, K)

  8. Andrew Romine, SS
  9. Rajai Davis, LF (11-for-28, 2 doubles, triple, 9 K’s)

P: Rick Porcello

RED SOX (career numbers off Porcello)

  1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B (2-for-10, double, walk, K)
  2. Shane Victorino, RF (1-for-2, K)
  3. David Ortiz, DH (2-for-7, HR, K)

  7. A.J. Pierzynski, C (5-for-22, HR, walk, 2 K’s)
  8. Xander Bogaerts, SS
  9. Brock Holt, 3B

P: John Lackey

Fielder injured. Daniels implies he was already injured when traded.

“As @MudHens hit the road, they make 2 roster moves. BACK from DL are LHP Casey Crosby & OF Ezequiel Carrera. (1 of 2)”
As I mentioned before, supposedly, Carrera injury was more serious

Thank you, Miggy! As well as Rick is pitching, I just can’t believe he and the bullpen can shut out the Red Sox again. Keep those runs coming, Tigers.

You gotta like Avile grinding out his AB’s tonight. 17 pitches hitting a Sac Fly for a RBI and drawing a BB. RP is efficient so far 35 pitch count thru 3rd. Let’s get to Lackey as he’s around 70 pitches in the 4th.

Fielders choice not Sacfly.

Romaine just looks aweful at the plate….and nobody is talking about it because we are winning burst I know several players over the last several years who were not given the same consideration ( ie Inge Raburn Avila. Etc.)

After Alex Gonzalez , anyone looks good. Still, In other blogs he is grilled daily

He needs to bunt more, the 3rd baseman is playing him deep. With his speed he needs to force them to move in.

Totally agree

We also noticed Romaine at the plate. They may have to come up wiith a plan B. Yes as long as they are winning it is a moot point .

WHEW! Rick gets out of a bases loaded jam. And against a Tiger nemesis at that- AJ Pierzynski.

Red Sox HR is one batter too late.

I only have Gameday here so can’t see. Are all these doubles to LF hitting that wall?

no, pulled down the line.

TY. I guess we’ll take them anyway we can get them. So far the team has covered for a lack of hitting from the shortstop position. I think it would help to have a bat in the 5 position. I doubt it would come from a different SS. Torii may be the answer but then you need a 1 or 2 spot hitter.

Looks like Rick can get 7 innings so we don’t have to get through too many BP jitters.

Nice night by Ricky P!

Wow! I’m getting spoiled.

Great outing by Rick. Didn’t have to use the real pen guys.

We’re seeing a ton of good baseball being played.
As Mayo mentioned, Rick saved the bullpen for tomorrow. I don’t expect Sanchez to go much more than five innings, although anything can happen.
I would have Romine bunt every time one is in order, but I don’t see the point in talking about his weak offense. He’s not underperforming. He’s doing what he’s expected to do. I’m fine with that.

got to watch this one on the ole regional sports network (NESN) – but listened to dan and jim. Remember the topic “Can Rick replace Doug in the lineup?” ….WEEEELLLL doug in 2013 had a 3.26 FIP and 1.3 WHIP and Rick has a 3.06 FIP and 1.0 WHIP this year so far.

FIP 3.26, WHIP 1.308
3.06 1.030

Well I expect major leaguers to hit better than .197. But my point is nobody is bothering him like they have others in the recent past. Nobody is lambasting him because the Tigers are winning but the second we start losing and struggling to score runs he will be booed mercilessly. (By the way not by me I don’t boo my own guys, don’t see the point)

1. Who is this new kid, Cabrera? It’s about time Miggy. Way to go.
2. Nick C. brings back memories of Brooks Robinson; okay, Howard Johnson?
3. Good 2 out clutch hitting tonight.
Kudos to Cy Porcello for another splendid outing. He’s exorcising his ghosts, one team at a time. Also, hats off to Victor, the new kid Miggy, Alex’s great AB, and his dribble double. Good contributions from all. While agreeing that Romine is in the game for defense, Mendoza line ss’s are only going to survive in the NL. He has to give you something from the offensive side, or make him the backup to Worth. Can you believe the road wins, already in May. Better than roadkill. A sweep is possible, thought I wouldn’t bet my dog on it.

well put greg

Another win at Fenway for the good guys . Rick P. did a nice job keeping Boston wondering what his pitches were, A good outing overall.

we have the best road record at 13-4 too

Only loss to AL team on the road at MN.

Romine is not pretending to be anything he isn’t. Not so sure the same could be said about Inge. As to Romine–well you can’t have a guy going hitless, in the truest sense of the word, as he has been doing. His defense is not that overwhelmingly fantastic to justify that. Actually nobody’s is.
Yet his 3rd at bat with the game undecided and a runner on 2nd and nobody down they did not have him bunting. That one is on Brad not Romine.
They pretty much have to let Worth play himself out of the job IMO. Suarez will be a Tiger before Drew will be.

Pretty incredible to have won the last 5 and 7 out of 10 with Davis, AJ, Romine, Avila and Casty all pretty much not hitting.

“Like Scherzer last season, Porcello doing this the year before his contract year. RT @AzizAbada: @beckjason @msu1983 This year’s “Scherzer” 8 hours ago”
Well, with a WS it wont matter if he out-price himself off the team too

Interesting to me that all the experts say Iglesias can’t hit. He tore the league up early last year for the Bosox, hitting .330. This was in a sampling LARGER than his numbers in Detroit. The guy CAN hit. Just because he has a great glove does not mean he has a bad bat. I would think he is quite capable of.270 when he is healthy.
I hope Brad has the good sense to give Worth a shot out there again.
As mentioned, I think we will eventually see Suarez.

Why keep Ray that long with the MLB team? He is accruing service time and if called again he could end as a super-two

Miller gone to AAA. Ray to start instead of Porcello

Once , Porcello back next Saturday

Really? From what I have seen RP really needs to rest that arm!!!! (not)
He’s been around 5 years–he can handle the workload. Unless he is suffering from something.

Robbie Ray will remain with Tigers for now because Rick Porcello is experiencing soreness in his left side. Ray will start again Thursday.

“Rick Porcello’s scheduled start Thursday will be pushed back to Saturday. Tigers hopeful soreness will disappear with a few extra days rest.”@jamesschmehl

Never before he went that deep so early. Four games over 100 pitches and .initially,he was the pitcher with more IP/game of the team

Kinsler 2B
Hunter RF
Cabrera 1B
V. Martinez DH
Kelly 3B
Jackson CF
J. Martinez LF
Avila C
Romine SS
Sanchez P

This would be the 1st time Rick has missed a start due to injury in his career.

And they will go with a shorter bullpen for 5 days

Jose Abreu to DL: major blow to ChiSox offense
