Sunday’s lineups: Tigers at Royals

Not much difference between right- and left-handed hitters against Jason Vargas, either this year or for his career.  Thus, it’s kind of a hybrid lineup for the Detroiters today. Rajai Davis leads off, but Andrew Romine and Alex Avila are in the lineup. Unless there was a massive lefty-righty split, Avila was going to get the start with Justin Verlander on the mound.

The Royals put Salvador Perez back in the lineup. He missed Saturday’s game with a bruised shin. He and Billy Butler give Justin Verlander fits.

i think miggy will be the player of the game today

Sure hope so. It would be great to see him get 3-4 hits with a big fly in the mix.

It would be nice to head back to the Motor City with a clean sweep in KC. Wiith JV on the mound they can do it .

rajai isn’t really swinging the bat lately…1 hit and 5Ks in the past 9 abs…. maybe it’s time to not have him lead off

Rajai is a sucker for the high pitch. When he gets a bit more selective with those he will prosper. Bunting looks good on him.
Miggy is hitting the ball much harder these days.
Joba is doing the “job”. Main thing is he is throwing strikes.
Warm weather + Justin Verlander = more K’s.
AJ looks extremely comfortable—nice.

Very impressed with Dave Clark. He is making a difference–and not a negative one like we have witnessed the last few years.
Even though Kinsler was at 3rd before Gordon had the ball in his glove–Clark evaluated the his position and his arm–though he would have been safe, a good throw, something Gordon normally does, would have nailed him at the plate.

I love watching him. He looks like the ‘ol traffic control cop in the middle of an intersection directing traffic. Very animated running up and down that 3rd base line, waving his arms and always has his eyes on the ball. He’ll probably make a blunder or two this year, but sure is what you want for a 3rd base coach.

So true Dan. Because we have to manufacture more runs we need a solid 3b coach. Lamont would be killing us. Clark has done a great job!

alex and prince, both tied with 2 HR on the season.

Well Justin was looking really good 7th inning not so good. I’d like to see us put up a few more. That first shutout of the season is still illuding the Tigers.

Weak hitter , you play shallow. But a good RF had that

He gave, he took back

Tigers are not only #1 in the AL standings. But also, hold the best record against the AL central at 10-4.

11-4 now

Both those guys are tied with Miggy too Evan!
Torii is old! There will be days when his muscle memory and/or experience evidences itself in a great play and other days that he simply looks slow, confused.
JV got hit in the 7th but his OF could have helped him just a dad more.
Never saw a pitcher who can subdue a team for 6, 7 or even 8 like Justin then turn a great outing into something pretty ordinary.

difference: miggy had off season surgery

but Torii can still hit.

Another win before the club heads back to the Motor City . It has become obvious the Tigers can beat up on the other clubs in the central. But they have to be prepared to go much deeper.

I can’t say enough good things about the new style of play. Stealing and taking extra bases at will makes the opposition look bad and must be demoralizing. The added bonus for me is that it’s my favorite style of baseball.
As long as they don’t play down to the competition, the Tigers have an opportunity to really open it up this week at Comerica.

Exactly Rich, the new style of offense, with the continued starting pitching is a lot of fun to watch in the D.

Cant wait to see the boys. Getting packed soon headed to the D to see the weekend series . Should be a chance to gain more ground.

Tigers PR ‏@DetroitTigersPR now
Per @EliasSports, the Tigers are the 1st team to have all 9 starters record @ least 1 hit in 3 straight gms since the Yankees 7/21-7/23/07.

My favorite kind of baseball too. Except for the BP, which actually can and should improve, the team is built to get to and finally win the WS. Romine with 3 hits today. He doesn’t waste his AB’s even with a big lead.

Who would have thought that of the top 5 batters in the order, Miggy is the only hitter below .300? Romine sure has been a pleasant upside both fielding and at the dish.
AJ seems to like the middle of the order too. Besides Dave Clark being an asset (yes we don’t miss Brookens), retaining Jeff Jones as pitching coach was a smart move by Ausmus. Jeff has stabilized the Starters and works with the staff on secondary pitches as well as delivery tweaks. He seems to have Krol and Joba set up as 8th inning relievers to bridge Nathan. AlAl, Choke, Reed can work the lefty/righty specialist batters in the 7th as I believe the Starters will go 7+ IP deep most of the season. If Hanrahan is above average by August/Sept. it will be a strong finish to the season, just when you want to start playing your best ball Very good road trip to 3 of 4 main competitors! Let’s get Max a solid game tomorrow and Ray a “W” on Tuesday!

I think DD deserves some credit for putting this team together! Go Tigers!

Swept out of their park. Our Tigers continue their conquest of the Central in very orderly fashion. Who would have thought this team would score 25 runs in three games against the Royals, and on the road at that. Just good, fun, baseball going on right now. As earlier noted, the low average in the top six is Migs. Rickie P is tied with the Legend for most wins. And we’re in the top 5 in the Majors for stolen bases.
It’s a truly funny game sometimes.
1. As noted, all starters get a hit for the third straight game.
2. The 38,almost 39 year old guy gets 3 hits, 3 ribbies, and the no hit SS also gets three hits.
3. HR power comes from the bottom of the order.
You’ll win a lot of games with that combination. Kudos also to Rajai, Ian, and JV for six solid, seven good innings. Royals are now 7 down on the lost column. Go Tigers.

Today may be Phil Cokes last day as a Tiger.
Seems a logical guy to get sent out (though Ortega is even more logical).
Look for Ray to have a decent debut and for him to be looked at as a potential LHP swing-man in the pen, ala Drew Smyly.

Today, a few years ago, I found out Ernie had moved on to his next adventure. Can’t think of a better man.

Billy Butler – JV’s nemesis – drives me crazy how he seems to have our number! Great series – winning the games we are “supposed” to win – that is a good sign.

Kinsler 2B
Hunter RF
Cabrera 1B
V. Martinez DH
Jackson CF
Castellanos 3B
Avila C
Romine SS
Davis LF
Scherzer P

Lennerton outrighted off the roster

that is an awfully weird way to spell “phil coke”

Read an article about Coke having ‘9 lives”. That would be an understatement.

Ian seems a bit brain dead on the base paths but what the heck is wrong with Miggy? He seems to be trying to be too “tricky” with his at bats instead of just trying to meet the ball with authority. Trying to hit everything to right and consequently not getting the jobs done with men on 3rd.
