Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers at White Sox

As expected, Alex Avila is not in the Tigers lineup. Also getting the day off, however, is Rajai Davis, coming off a four-strikeout night against the White Sox Tuesday. Davis is also 0-for-6 lifetime against Hector Noesi, who makes his first White Sox start today.

Today is Weather Day at U.S. Cellular Field, and the forecast is fitting. The tarp stayed on the field this morning while rain showers passed through, and there’s a chance of rain throughout the day. Expect them to get this one in through the dry patches, but it could be a long one.

just for the fun of it, i am guessing max will go 7 innings today, strike out 10 and give up 1 home run and 1 walk.
.
Also if anyone would like to read a nice piece regarding Jackson…. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-new-austin-jackson-again/

Other than Kinsler and Torii the first 2 innings don’t look too pretty for our guys again. Pretty bad ab’s. Hopefully next time threw they will have a better idea on Noesi….because he isn’t good.

same pitching story so far> Max 1 inning 20 pitches, Noesi 2 innings 20 pitches

oooooh Cy Noesi!

Noesi 27 pitches through 3……terrible ab’s and easy outs. My gotta flip that script

4-0. Not so bad.

Script flipped.

Sure is!….good for Holaday.

Can we please play Holaday more often? Pleeeeeeaaaaaasssssee?

“The Rockies, Rangers, Red Sox, Yankees and Tigers are among the teams showing strong interest in free agent reliever Joel Hanrahan, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports” – MLBTRADERUMORS

Max is throwing way too many pitches. Yes he is very good. . If he thinks he’s worth more than 24 mil a year he’s going to have to be able to go more than 6 innings consistently. 75 through 4 is too many. I do love his ability to pitch himself out of a mess but its gotta be more efficient.

Some team will probaably pay him. Detroit set the starting point. Maybe he’ll surprise us and throw a CG this year, a no-no, and stays healthy..

and maybe Avila hits 300 on the season!

Nice play by Romine in 5th

Nice more efficient inning for Max

the amazing ALBQ! lets see if the bullpen has what it takes today to hold a 4 run lead

We cant send AlAl out for the 8th inning can we? He always seems to struggle with that second inning. Something about sitting in the dugout, he loses focus or gets cold? Who’s gonna anchor down the 8th and 9th innings?

Coke: “I can do it, Jay”

Why would anyone wasn’t to be a catcher…way too much physical abuse

to become a coach after your playing day, of course

Bases loaded What will Nick do?

Nada. Swing crazy.

You gotta like Holaday, .292 BA & today he gets a double w/2 RBI’s and draws a BB, runs the bases decent and is starting to call pretty good games. I remember he was good at TCU, the team captain on a real good team. Could he be 1 of the nice upside surprises of the 2014 season?

Evan, how do you blow a 4 run lead, CHOKE!

Coke????

You can call Holaday, Scherzer´s personal catcher from now on

There goes the first shutout if the season

Thanks to E. Reed we did not get the 1st shutout but, got the “W” against a division rival! AlAl and Joba were decent for their respective roles today.

We get the win and yes Al A and Joba did their jobs well . Not really sure what Hunter and Miggy were swinging at in the 9 th inning .

I had the choice of MLB or Hawk. I wasn’t in the mood for buffering, so I watched Ken. It seems that he might have mellowed some. He wasn’t nearly as nauseating as in the past. Good win for Tiger fans today. Max was on his A- game; his biggest pitfall is pitch count. Three walks were out of the ordinary. The Sox are not going away. They have a fine ball club; the only advantage is SP’s.
1. Kept the damage to a minimum from 3-6.
2. Two Sac Flies in one inning.
3. Good relief from AlJoba
Kudos to Doc, Miggy, and Victor. Romine played solid D.

Greg

It is great leaving Chicago with 2 more wins . Big series ahead in Kansas City . Hats off to Holoday today he has really played great the last 2 games. Most fans really don’t understand how important a backup catcher is .
However beating a division rival at their ball park is huge . Lets get the wins in Kansas City !!!!!

Kevin Whelan playing in the organization again. Has potential.

Good move to not throw Nathan today.
Joba is starting to get comfortable.
Al-Al looked pretty darn good.

I bet DD is pretty interested in this coming Tuesday’s game.

I’m going to say a prayer for him and for DD. Hope he has a good outing!

Tigers really need to be aware of their catching situation. Avila is very fragile and one has to realistically wonder how long till he is less than a regular player.

We completed our April schedule with a 14-9 record, which is good enough to lead our division. Along the way we also had three rainouts and enough scheduled off days to drive us bonkers. Many people are starting to call us the “Comeback Tigers” as we have come from behind to win many games. So now as 5/1 approaches what do we see??? Egads!!!!! No game again. The clock is ticking and Friday night seems so far away. My question about Miguel remains, “Where are the walks?” Are they challenging him that much or is he expanding the strike zone?? Go Tigers!!!

yep i was going to say that – where are the walks?

He has expanded his own strike zone and has been swinging at low pitches. But it looks like his bat speed is better .

When you swing early in the count you don’t walk, but you tend to hit for higher avg.
Of The top 5 teams with the most walks, only Oakland is barely above league average in hitting. Whereas of the top 6 Hitting teams, Texas and Chicago are barely above league average drawing walks. Min,Chi,Oak and LA all average over 5 runs per game. Min and Oak walk the most, Chi hits the best and draws an average amount of walks. LA just hits a ton of HRs. Conclusion? To score a lot of runs you need to draw lots of walks and hit at league average or Hit for high average and draw an average amount of walks or just hit a ton of HRs.

might be hard to see it, but all these off days might have saved us from an injury. sure does look like pitchers are dropping like flies around the MLB these days.

Last week, ESPN in español theme during the broadcast was injuries.
Candy Maldonado. PED and over the counter legal substances are damaging players.
A physician based in Miami said that,, like with some diseases, better diagnosis methods, scanning and more awareness( hypochondria , I would say) fueled by the internet are hiking the “injuries” discovered. A controversial , but expected with his background( among us, trust is not widespread), a conspiracy theory, teams are using DL to send players to the Minors and correct mechanicals problems. Of course, i would like to know how 23 TJ surgeries are used to cover up a mechanical flaw.
The numbers say, there is a problem but is not unusual. Some high profile players injured. And two of them by heir own fault, the head first slides of Hamilton and Harper can be paired with the break dancing Lou´s injury or that skiing injury or playing with a kid like Titan or playing with pillows like Inge. That is, a What were you thinking ? type of injury
And of course, this:”STATS Fact: April was the 3rd coldest in MLB since 1990. Game-Time temperature in April was 62.1, behind 1997 (61.4) and 2013 (61.9).”

good points

“It appears former Tiger Steve Lombardozzi has been optioned to Baltimore’s Triple-A affiliate to clear room for Manny Machado, per reports”James Scmehlt

Machado is a good young ballplayer
