Friday’s lineups: Tigers at Twins

Minny 005

I’m not on this weekend’s series at Target Field, but your lineups are below. The Twins are starting three right-handers this series, so expect the lineups for the rest of the series to look a lot like this one, with Rajai Davis back in the ninth spot and Ian Kinsler leading off.

Will Rick keep a good GB:FB tonight (it was a key to success last outing)? Will Miggy go yard on Korea (he has a .571SLG against him)? Is Alex going to go hit-less (like last game) or put the ball in play (like he did the 2 games before that)?

And that’s why they play the games. Not a big fan of moving the hot guy to the nine hole but let’s just play ball!!! Second road trip and a great opportunity for us as we will play three division foes. Go Tigers!!!!!

Out here in Vermont, but I met a guy from Minnesota. He’s coming over for the game tonight🙂

So Evan, what does one do in Vermont?

Really it’s mostly kudos to Mr. Ausmus so far this season. Tuesday he has Kelly and JD Martinez in the lineup and it works great. The next night JD plays again and does better but we lose. Get away game follows the next afternoon and Worth and Holaday works to perfection. Today our four man bench has a combined BA of .302 although it’s much too small a sample size.

When I was checking out how Kinsler and Fielder were doing so far this year, I discovered that Texas still has Mitch Moreland listed at 1B. I wonder why they took Prince then. I thought Moreland was an above average player. Was I wrong?

He had a really rough second half last season. Lost his position this year.

They needed to dump Kinsler. Had a bad year in 2012 and was disgruntled because there were three prospects going for his spot

Several weeks ago I was checking stats for 1st basemen on the Detroit Tigers website. Miguel’s name wasn’t listed. So, I checked 3rd base stats and Miguel’s name showed up as a 3rd baseman. Sent an email to the contact link and they made Miguel a 1st baseman again.

Ian scuffling a bit. Hunter, VMart and Miggy all under .300 but I expect 2 or 3 of these guys will be over .300 at year end. Avila looking much more confident at the plate.
If Romine can not be an easy out, this lineup suddenly looks imposing.

Need to get Alex out of there….he looks like he’s in pain. No sense risking a break ala Magglio

How often does that happen? One player makes all 3 outs in the same inning. Miggy made all three outs that inning and we still scored 7 times. If you watch baseball long enough, you will see everything.

Good job Ricky, get your pitch count back on track with 48 pitches through 3 IP. This is a luxury with this lead! Everyone has a hit and we are in the 4th inning.

Rule #3 Any lineup where you score seven runs in an inning is a good lineup. The rookie manager has another winner!!!

Think strategically here, grind out your at bats so you can stretch the Twinkies bullpen! This is a Division opponent so force them to go to their pen and use their arms. It will only help over the series!

Rick falling apart

Here we go pen blowing it again….surprise surprise surprise. NOT

that’ll happen when your GM doesn’t address these things in the offseason, ya know

This bullpen is going to blow a 9-run lead? If that doesn’t make it apparent something needs to be done…………..

This is the first game of the road trip and we’ve just about used up our whole BP.

sanchez, verlander next two games, might not need much of a bullpen if they are both pitching to their capabilities……but yes, good point.

you’ll see coke soon probably *grin*

Off days on Monday and Thursday, Kathy. That will help.

The main thing is our winning pct is .600. That’s excellent.
A 10-1 game that becomes 10-6 is scary if there’s little confidence in the bullpen. In reality, teams don’t usually lose that lead. In the Tigers case, Nathan is good to close. Joba can probably handle the 8th and Al Al 7th/8th. Krol is mostly reliable and would be even more so if he faced more lefties. That leaves three guys that aren’t getting it done much at all. These are middle innings pitchers that should be replaceable. And as always, starters have to pitch into the 7th. That’s a major key.
Bullpens always change over as the season progresses.
These games are LONG.

My question is what happened to Porcello there. Was that an injury?

Another ugly win, but by George a win is better than the other thing. The Twinks no longer have that pushover offense. Lucky for us, they don’t have Sanchez or JV either. No need to harp on the pen. Valid points have already been posted. The Kinsler error made the relief effort tougher than necessary. But that’s baseball, and why we all love it.
1. Every starter gets at least one hit.
2. Romine’s gem will be top 3 on plays of the game.
3. Offense showed no mercy on Carrea, and they put him away. Unfortunately for our guys, they only scored one off the TwinkPen. That 7 run inning was needed if only to provide some comfort later on.

Kudos to Tori, Miggy, and of course Nick and Rajai. The exchange that Rod mentioned between Tori, Alex, and Brad was great baseball. Hunter’s leadership will be valuable as the grind wears on. Ugly, yes. But great, anyway. Later!

It is a win on the road and we will take any win .DD has to address the bull pen problem . Sure hate to keep harping on this issue . Go Tigers !!!!

The BP had one hiccup tonight. Some inherited runners were allowed to score. As a group they threw four innings and allowed only one earned run. That is super for them. Ausmus has done a great job recently of keeping seven guys going out there pitching. That needs to continue by getting Coke out on the mound to get us a big out or two in these next two games. We just need to see what these guys can do.

“But he doesn’t want to come out of the game. Quite frankly, I don’t want to take him out of the game. He’s working with Rick Porcello. ” So, if Avila wants to risk his season, in a 9-1 game, he allows it?

if i were skipper I’d like to think I’d play Alex less at the beginning of the season, if anything to ensure his health in the 2nd half + playoffs. With that said, perhaps alex is crucial to pitching success. I’m sure brad knows more than I.
