Saturday: Justin Verlander takes his hacks

SD 001

For the first time on this trip, Victor Martinez is the odd man out of the Interleague-shortened Tigers lineup. Alex Avila is back behind the plate to catch Justin Verlander, while Nick Castellanos returns to the lineup at third base. Expect Martinez back in the lineup Sunday, possibly behind the plate for Max Scherzer.

Meanwhile, Torii Hunter returns to the lineup after missing the previous couple games with soreness in his left knee. Don Kelly has soreness in his right shoulder and knee after his collision with the right-field fence last night, so it’s unclear whether he’ll be available.

I love idea a great hitter coming off the bench near the end of the game when it matter the most with runners in scoring position.

if Vmart was hitting better i’d trip out if we didn’t start him

Good solid lineup. Verlander on the mound. Let’s win tonight so we can go for a series win tomorrow behind Scherzer. Go Tigers!!!!

Tigers score!! Break their scoreless streak at nine innings.

Get that ball and send it to Cooperstown!!! The most talked about hit in the history of the Detroit Tigers!!!

awww i missed the JV hit? dangit!

Got 2 hits….now if he could keep the other team from scoring. I thought the padres couldnt score runs

Krol pitched pretty well there

WOW AUSTIN WOW

So nice to have Austin in a comfortable position and contributing.

Make everyone shut up, Joe!

Much better!!!!!

yeah good that nathan got in there and was successful. good game tonight – and without victor. good baserunning tonight

Except for Nick’s tootblan.

nice term. and agreed. he’s green, what else can be said?

That full beard Nathan had messed him up. Trimmed it to a goat, now he looks like Joe Nathan. Good a reason as any……….
Good game, guys. Lots of good things happened. Not sure if Greg can keep it to three tonight.

After all of our whimpering, it’s .667 after 9; not bad for an engine running on half of it’s horsepower. A very solid, needed, and well earned W for the Old English D tonight. There are many things, I liked as the Richmeister so proclaimed, but I’ll keep it to the less obvious ones:
1. Speed disrupts a pitcher more than we think about. I was very critical of Rajai in the early going, but he’s becoming a leadoff catalyst; Kinsler’s W was aided by Mr. Speed being on first.
2. 41% of the outs did not see the infield dirt. 11 K’s a game usually breeds success.
3. Who would have “thunk” that JV would throw 70% off speed stuff and be so successful? I think he’s graduating to the next level of pitching. He’ll take the K’s when they come, or are really needed in a tough spot. IMP, the K’s have become secondary to winning and surviving for the next 6 or 7 years.
Kudos to Ian, Rajaii, AJAX, and Joe. Big time inning for Roller Coaster Junior. Krol continues to impress. Get it going Miggy. Until later.

Greg

Wow, jv got more hits than the team on friday

Big freakin deal the almighty JV got his 1st hit…how much can you write about one event??

Much needed win after the disaster on Friday night .JV was stellar so will Max be today . Glad JV got the monkey off his back with 2 hits ……..

Verlander, as he likes it, with 4 days of rest, next Thu.
