Friday’s lineups: Tigers at Padres

SD 007

Torii Hunter felt better Friday and took early batting practice with several others at Petco Park (pictured) this afternoon, but there’s still just enough lingering soreness in his left knee that Brad Ausmus decided to rest him an extra day as a precaution. He’s available to pinch-hit, but probably would be lifted for a pinch-runner if he reached base. Don Kelly gets the start in right field in his place.

Elsewhere in the lineup, Victor Martinez gets the start at first base, with Miguel Cabrera shifted over to third and Alex Avila behind the plate. That means Nick Castellanos sits despite coming off his first Major League home run Wednesday. Ausmus said pregame that Martinez will sit one of the remaining two games. It would not surprise me at all if that day is Saturday, with Avila catching Justin Verlander.

If you’re staying up late back in Michigan to watch on TV tonight, take note that the game will begin on Fox Sports Detroit Plus before switching over to the regular FSD channel once the Red Wings game ends.

AL Central bullpens. The Sox, Twins, and Royals have had as much trouble as our Tigers. Terry has the Indians BP rolling so far. Each April we generally use nine or ten guys in the bullpen anyway. We have three vets who are trying for bounce back seasons. Let’s see what they do through our next home stand. Go Tigers!!

Yikes—Kelly, Avila, Romine and Porcello. That should strike fear in the opposing pitcher.

might as well put best available defensive SS behind Porcello. Avila and Kelly vs RHP ok by me, considering alternatives.
does Martinez get a game behind the plate this series? could Castellanos play a passable LF in future interleague games in NL parks?

I want to see Evan Reed and Putkonen tonight before Joba, AL AL or Coke.

Tigers have played fewest games in majors so far. bullpen well rested, only KC with fewer bullpen innings this season.

Pads have 2 hitters in lineup tonight hitting > Mendoza Line. with no Quentin, Gyorko hitting cleanup

Kelly is hurt! Oh, no.

Boy, they are really making that pitcher work hard, heh?

Well with the pitching staff of the Padres Porcello may of already given up too much?

As bad as Headley looks at 3rd, I would have bunt if I were Romine.

Ugh… the boys look bad at the plate. They are making my decision real easy to not stay up much longer. If they pull it out I’ll be happy in the morning if the don’t I’ll be happy I went to bed.

The Tigers look like the la-la landers in California to watch another team play. I’m going to bed.

Rick does not appear to “have it.”

Pretty brutal for sure. Porcello is getting twacked and our hitters can’t twack. Ugly so far and I would say we are pretty damn lucky with the two unusual DPs we got. We’ll see Putkonen today. Hope we don’t see a no-hitter.
Miggy looks awful.

5 innings, 0 hits. Styrofoam bats?

That about does it. First hit. Two stolen bases. Cabrera swings at first pitch. Double play. Good night.

Yeah–me too. Porcello is not just bad tonight he is also pitching stupid. Keeps going back to the slider even though it hasn’t worked for him and just says “hit me” all over it.

What in the world is wrong with Miggy? Help me remember, has he ever gone into slumps lasting as long as this. I can remember back to back games, etc. but this is just terrible. He looks completely lifeless and in his case it can’t all be credited to Cashner.

my san diego family members all said the same thing: our offense is dead. I said “ours pretty much too – i’ll bullpen will lose it for us late” but porcello had to go n’ wake up their offense. they went to the game and said tiger fans travel extremely well – newsflash🙂

Limited offense by the Tigers while the Padres smash the ball around . West coast baaseball folks Tigers were not ready for Cashner . Plan on getting the W tonight .
