Sunday: Tigers vs. Orioles

The first Sunday of the regular season brings the first Sunday lineup of Brad Ausmus’ managerial tenure. Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez swap positions — Cabrera at DH, Martinez at first base. Bryan Holaday starts behind the plate. Andrew Romine gets the start at shortstop, while Tyler Collins gets another start in left.

On the O’s side, Buck Showalter tweaks his lineup a bit to try to get a spark. Chris Davis and Adam Jones switch spots in the batting order, while Nick Markakis moves back to his old second spot.

Bonus: Today’s game is being shown on MLB Network for viewers outside of Michigan.

Brad is on the radio right now with Dan & Jim explaining his rationale for using Nathan. Ball should have been caught, hopes AA can sometimes close out games and doesn’t want to overuse Nathan,

Are you at the game, GK?

Torii, Torii, Torii!!!!

Torii looking great while Miguel looks really frustrated. Doesn’t seem to have much patience up there at the plate.

What we really, really need is our LHB to become dangerous. If Avila settles for “I am primarily defense” attitude it will make the bottom of the lineup impotent.

JV pitching well. High pitch count. Bullpen will be needed. Tigers need some hitting.

He has one more inning in the tank thanks to the O´s

Maybe it is true that keeping the right hand on the bat is affecting Miguel´s swing.

Kathy….no watching at home.

Making things pretty easy on tillman today.

Tillman sure has their number. Verlander must be coming out for the 8th. Well, if he can hold them, our bats better get him a win. Go, Tigers!!!

Ugh!

A RF is a bigger need than a LF

Well we just need to get 1 run fellas! We’ve played a decent game so far, perhaps Cabby will give us a monster HR in his next AB!

if kinsler can get a hit here – perhaps Cabby seeing Tillman for the 4th time in the game will be all we need!

great defense by the orioles that inning

Oh boy!

We need a DP.

well that’s probably game. bullpen looks about how any sane person would think it would look: border-line incapable

Now we need 3 runs.

buck playing with fire putting tillman in there! Vmart – Cabby: PROFESSIONAL HITTERS

Maybe Austin can hit triple.

What a terrible strike zone.

The run in 2b is meaningless but i would pinch run for Victor. I want the way free for AJax

same here. Kind of surprised he left him in there. Oh, well. It’s over now.

Well they looked like they were already gone at the plate to me today. I’ll give Tillman some credit but I still dont think they played like it mattered today. Just my opinion.

I would like to have Tillman on my team. He did get some generous calls though. Miggy was frustrated on some pitches but I don’t understand why he swings at a 3-1 pitch and grounds out to short. I guess we are not going to be 162-0. Flying to Marco Island tomorrow to meet up with my wife and daughter and driving my father in law’s car back to Grand Rapids. I will be able to stay up and watch the West Coast games! Go Tigers!

Weiters called a great game and Tillman executed it. The Tiger hitters were off balance all day and never seemed to have any clue what was coming. Good work by the O’s battery.
Fun first week of baseball.

On this bullpen thing, there are so many early off days that perhaps they’re trying to “see how it goes” before crunch time sets in. I mean, Smyly is in the pen for the time being if needed. There’s no way management doesn’t see the weakness out there. Can’t have a pitching/defense team without a bullpen.

Got back from Pennsylvania yesterday. Lot of Oriole fans in the Philly/Lancaster area. It has been a great opening week for the Tigers. Base on our first week record, we will finish 130-32; not bad for this 2014 edition. I did see today’s game, and though ti was a loss, there weer three things that I liked about the game:
1. Martinez at first; need to see that 20-25 times this year.
2. JV’s secondary pitches; he was pitching today; unfortunately he got the loss, but nevertheless, he did what an ace should do- give us a chance to win. You can’t fault him that Tilman was just a dash better.
3. Martinez’s last AB. it looked like the ball ate him alive, but he turned on it to once again keep the chance alive to tie or win.

You hate to say it, but sometimes Miguel gets ahead of himself. he should have recognized the importance of the moment, but got a little anxious But it’s difficult to level any gripe against him; after all his career average is about 330 points higher than mine. The Strike zone did get a little zany, especially with the Collins called strike. But with that in mind, Mr. T pitches his orioles to a game saving sweep.
AJ looked bad at the plate; and poor Al; he can’t even spell his lat name, just adds to mounting concerns about the pen. Bring on Cory K. Little or zero support from the boys on the bottom. I wish we could form a new SS named Andex Rozalmine. Good hit, good glove SS with a great name. well enough of my delusion. I’m suffering from TLS -Tiger Loss Syndrome.

Greg

I’m still wondering why Brad didn’t mix things up in the 9th or sooner a little bit. You know, throw Don Kelly in there or Rajai to pinch run. Just seems like they would have tried to squeeze every last drop from the bench.

Has Luke pitched this season? If he hasn’t, why not? Today, why not put Smyly in there – he needs to get some action. He’s the best guy in the pen right now – by far!

Smyly pitched 3 innings yesterday.
Yesterday was Luke opportunity but they needed the work for Smyly. Starters have done their job pretty well and going deep early, maybe too early into the season. No work for long relievers so far

he pitched 3 friday, but fair enough. Reed pitched OK yesterday, at least.

Well we need a pleasant surprise to happen in our bullpen. Maybe Luke will need to transition form an underused long man to someone who can pitch in late innings.
Reed has the arm and looks like he has the “personality” to work those innings this year. AlAl will be OK but probably not in the 8th or 9th.
DD really needed to come up with a lefty free agent when Rondon went down—they were out there but for the 2nd year in a row he cheaped out and dreamed that things would work out.
Not sure how much impotence we can live with at shortstop. Romine is obviously more adept than Gonzalez at short but he will be lucky to hit .200 with the stiff approach he has at the plate.

I think the only thing more tiring than Cokes outings are listening to Cokes evaluations of them.

true. nothing like putting lipstick on a pig!

Well, guess we were not going to win them all. got my first visual glimpse and watched about 2 innings yesterday. Gotta learn the new guys, and that is what makes me a bit nervous, seeing so many names on the team that I am really not sure who they are yet or are not yet proven – the whole bottom half of our lineup yesterday. JV is looking good and strong which is great news for us. Glad we have a short west coast swing so early in the season, the guys are fresh so this should not be as tiring as the ones that take place later in the season.

I forget, can Victor catch this year or not? Because I’d think for this west coast trip it might be time to do that.

For sure. He will at least have one game behind the plate and at least two at 1st.
Don’t be totally shocked if Casty (provided he is hitting like a whirlwind) ends up playing in LF for a game.

Hey there would you mind sharing which blog
platform you’re working with? I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m having a tough time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design seems
different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.

P.S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
