Friday: Tigers vs. Orioles

I’m off today. Chris Vannini and Matt Slovin will have the Tigers coverage this weekend from Comerica Park. Still, I figured I’d post the lineups for today. The Tigers lineup should look awfully familiar from yesterday. The Orioles lineup features former Tiger (even if he never played a regular-season game in a Detroit uniform) Steve Lombardozzi at second base, but no J.J. Hardy, who is being rested with back spasms.

Weatherwise, a day that began with dense fog this morning turned to midday rain, which delayed first pitch until 1:15pm. Topping it all off, there’s a wind advisory for this afternoon. This seems like the true April in the D.

Here are the lineups for today’s series opener against the O’s:

TIGERS (career numbers off Miguel Gonzalez)

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B (2-for-7, double, HR, walk)
  2. Torii Hunter, RF (1-for-3)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B (2-for-6, HR, K)
  4. Victor Martinez, DH (1-for-3)
  5. Austin Jackson, CF (1-for-1, HR, 2 walks)
  6. Alex Avila, C (1-for-4, 2 walks, K)
  7. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  8. Andrew Romine, SS
  9. Rajai Davis, LF (2-for-10, HR, K)

P: Anibal Sanchez

ORIOLES (career numbers off Sanchez)

  1. Nick Markakis, RF (1-for-3, double)
  2. David Lough, LF (0-for-4, walk)
  3. Adam Jones, CF (2-for-3)
  4. Chris Davis, 1B
  5. Nelson Cruz, DH (1-for-4, HR, K)
  6. Steve Clevenger, C
  7. Jonathan Schoop, 3B
  8. Ryan Flaherty, SS
  9. Steve Lombardozzi, 2B (0-for-3)

P: Miguel Gonzalez

Game going to happen today??

Romine probably hopes so.

1:15 Start

Yikes, the Orioles are no joke. Hope the Tigers can overcome..

Romine got to see 9 pitches but sure helped out Gonzalez on that last pitch.

Miggy up with “casa llena.” Now’s about time for Miggy to break out!!

The trot to 3b was bad. Not keeping the eyes on the coach is unforggivable . Lack of fundamentals

Good inning/Horrible inning. Romine showed why he doesn’t hit. Swang at a ridiculously bad 2-0 pitch (over eager with men in scoring position?) and then at a pitch that would have put immense pressure on the pitcher to K.
Castellanos was an obvious rookie on that play. Could have been a much bigger inning.

The money for the running instructor was wastd

Did Castellanos make that tag? Sure look like he missed him!!

That was n easy dp

Well if he keeps hitting that will make up for some of these rookie mistakes until he is able to settle in to every day play at 3B

There was play at 2b

Well that’s why I asked if he actually made the tag. Looked to me like he missed him which is why he hesitated on the throw to 2B

His bat is not in doubt

Like that

He missed the tag.. It was easier to go to 2b wt trying

Smily aftr the delay?

Keep an eye on miguel. His swing seems different. His right hand. Pointed out by the bcaster here

I hope the delay isn’t long enough to knock out Anibal. What does the radar say?

Here we go.

HR Torii.

This early it was a mistake.tks, to leave mg there. Same whit anibal. The swing is perfect.old swing

It was out.

Well so much for instant replay getting plays called correctly. That was an out at 2B! How can they miss that?

Because, like some police officers, they have to be correct.

imo, though. The guy was out Maybe we’ll here about a new rule to justify their decision.

Can someone please help me understand why in the world we didn’t give Worth a try at short instead of trading away Alvarez for Romine?

Omar Vizquel gave him his stamp of approval. He made a great bunt and a beautiful play behind Casty.

#2000 for Miggy

Just watched Miggy hit #2000 on a 2-run homer. Wasn’t even looking at the tv, but I knew it when I heard the crack of the bat. Boom baby! http://amzn.to/1gWTR1a

Just leaving game..I’m frozen.
.
Was worried about Sanchez but settled down after first inning too bad he couldn’t get one more in. Rain. Bats came alive. Still would like to know why they didn’t reverse that play at second seemed pretty obvious it was on the transfer.

Casty is taking over the best hitter in baseball’s position. He is playing for a Championship caliber ball team. There are expectations on him that will result in pressure and misadventure. By the time the break comes along we will see a more rounded player. His is a pretty sweet bat to have in the bottom of your batting order.
Ausmus making good moves. I was surprised he didn’t bunt with Rajai when the game was close and there were men on 1st & 2nd with nobody down.
Another “right” call!

I think one can safely say the umps aren’t as fond of the review/replay as fans and players are. Seemed to me like they may have been saying, “I’m the boss not the hall monitor”. And the guy in NY is an ump too…..right?

So you know the Tigers are the only undefeated team. We can go wire to wire. Ian Kroll looked good. Sorry replay, out at second but he was called safe. Not a fan of replay or the sissy play at the plate. Just sayin……

today’s game was a good one for numerous reasons. Offense still seems “inconsistent”, no?

I had a dinner and a show celebration and missed everything after the rain delay. I think Nick C. just gets too excited so far. He’ll settle down. The pitchers will adjust to him but he’ll hit. Always knew that.
Took Miggy all of three games to break out.
Nice start to the season.
