Saturday: Tigers vs. Astros

Victor Martinez gets his first game behind the plate today, albeit only for a few innings. Brad Ausmus said this morning that Martinez will catch three innings. By batting leadoff, Martinez will be able to squeeze in two at-bats in that time.

“You don’t have to catch nine innings to be ready to catch nine innings,” Ausmus said. “That sounds like a Yogi-ism.”

Steve Lombardozzi, meanwhile, gets his first game action in left field. Ausmus wasn’t planning on doing that this spring, but with Andy Dirks currently limited to couch potato duty following back surgery, Ausmus is now viewing Lombardozzi as an outfield option — maybe not platoon duty, but spot duty and late-game versatility.

Max Scherzer and Lucas Harrell pitch opposite each other for the second time this spring. They played against each other and sometimes on the same team while growing up in Missouri — Harrell in Springfield, Scherzer in the St. Louis area.

Victor Martinez our new lead off hitter….???

We know he can get on base!

vmart is likely are 2nd slowest base runner, behind alex. talking about alex, I don’t see why we’d bat him after VMart (vs RHP) –> I’d rather bat AJax.
.
The boys have been hitting well the past few games. Castellanos is REALLY hitting! Might his bat someday but like Vmarts?

I doubt DD will do anything outside of the organization as to a OFer to replace Andy. He is probably quite happy with Fields, Moya and Collins all arguably ready next year. He’ll go with Kelly. Worth probably complicated things with his play lately. I don’t think he is on the 40 man is he?

he is not

Jim and Dan said they were hitting Vmart #! just so he could get extra AB’s. Yes they are hitting better the last few days but they are also facing some pretty bad pitching. But its still fun to watch or listen to in this case.

Let’s see how they do against Darvish and King Felix.

I’d start Jose on the DL because I never want to hear the phrase “shin splints” again from Jose. It seems starting taking Danny north makes a bit of sense. Perez to me is a 2B and Suarez needs development. Lombo is no SS but could play it from time to time.

Just saw a tweet that Iglesias is out for whole year. …not sure its true?

Heaven forbid.
If his injury is that serious then why would DD not have been made aware.

As I mentioned earlier on another posting, shin splints require long periods of rest–why was this not accomplished off season?
How did the severity of this injury escape scrutiny by the GM and by the medical exam?
This changes everything.

yep word is most of 2014.
