Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers at Twins

The numbers for Scott Diamond this season are fairly bad. The numbers for Scott Diamond against the Tigers are fairly good aside from Miguel Cabrera. This should be a good test for how deep the Tigers’ recent struggles with left-handed starters go.

TIGERS (career numbers off Diamond)

  1. Austin Jackson, CF (4-for-20, 3 walks, 4 K’s)
  2. Torii Hunter, RF (2-for-11, walk, 2 K’s)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B (10-for-21, HR, 2 walks, 3 K’s)
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B (3-for-17, walk, 4 K’s)
  5. Victor Martinez, DH (3-for-14, K)
  6. Omar Infante, 2B (3-for-12, HR)
  7. Matt Tuiasosopo, LF (1-for-7)
  8. Alex Avila, C (1-for-5, 3 K’s)
  9. Ramon Santiago, SS (0-for-4)

P: Doug Fister

TWINS (career numbers off Doug Fister)

  1. Alex Presley, CF (1-for-3)
  2. Brian Dozier, 2B (5-for-9, HR, K)
  3. Trevor Plouffe, 3B (2-for-17, HR, 2 K’s)
  4. Josh Willingham, DH (6-for-20, 2 HR, 3 walks, 4 K’s)
  5. Josmil Pinto, C
  6. Ryan Doumit, RF (2-for-11, walk, 2 K’s)
  7. Chris Parmelee, 1B (2-for-8, walk, 4 K’s)
  8. Clete Thomas, LF (0-for-3)
  9. Eduardo Escobar, SS (0-for-3, K)

P: Scott Diamond

Castellanos you dork. Why did you only go 2 for 4 with no strikeouts?
You need to do a lot better than that to get in a JL lineup against a lefty.

2E 1 for 7 against Diamond and hitless since August 28th.
10 Ks in his last 15 at bats.
Makes sense to me.
Smooth Jimmy.

Looks like JL looking for an excuse to justify putting JP back in. which to me is a foregone conclusion and not a bod move considering Miggy and Iggy’s status.
But, to play 2E ahead of NC now only means that JL is reluctant to see the kid do well and create consternation at determining the 25 man post season roster..
2E being thrown to the wolves and NC being treated like dog food.

Ya I don’t get it…..seriously I’d rather see Dirks in there over either of those two. If you look at Diamonds splits lefties hit him very well often better than righties.
So here we go beginning to feel a whole lot like 2009 magic numbe at two with 4 games …..or something real close to that.

Quite frankly, this is making me feel quite queasy. It ain’t over til it’s over, but they they are having too hard of a time closing the deal. Making me queasy. We’ve gone down this road before and I don’t want to go there.

.545 OPS vs lefties isn’t exactly impressive for someone so green. he aint stealin or makin plays in the field and he didn’t start out smokin hot with the bat. i agree with smokes on this one

he’s a betting man. he bet that he could get 2E going again (ok defense) before he could get Cast hitting (green on defense). So what chill out if he plays them both neither will get going since it’s already a platoon. Dirks is much better than either – both sides of the ball.

I am not worried at all about getting to the post-season. really. Not at all.
but I am extremely worried about what we do when we get there. I don’ think it will as pretty as it was last year. And last year got real ugly.

I wasn’t in 2009 either but look what happened.

Pathetic beyond belief. Bases are loaded.

Base freaking loaded NOBODY OUT and not a damn thing to show for it….. Not a stinking sac fly nothing. this is why I am freaking out. Cy Diamond. This team is going to drive me to drink tonight.

hey i drink every game!

Ywp. Nothing. AGAIN.

Now the Twins score with just one on base. No clinch tonight?

Way to kick it around……….awesome they don’t waste their opportunities do they. Guess the Twins are just better. Or just give a crap.

Miguel is limping.

I’m just beyond………

Two below average pitchers last night and tonight look like all stars against “the best hitting team on the planet”.
I told my wife exactly what would happen with the bases full and nobody out in the 2nd.. Though I did predict a 2E K rather than a force out at home.
Playing Avila today is another dense move by Leyland.
Miggy, again I will say this, is so far out of whack are they serious in thinking it is helpful to play him/
I don’t get that one at all.
He is just not going to be even a shadow of himself at this point and in this condition..
they are fools to believe otherwise.

Glad you said it, Dan. If it were up to me, he would not be playing. Still going for the batting title I guess. That is the only reason I can figure he’s still in the line-up.

He already has the batting tittle. Trout is at 325 and it is impossible for him to catch him. Playing him could put in jeopardy the title if he goes 0 for 20

Going 0 for 20 he would be at 337.5

Well White Soxs went ahead for about 25 seconds until Cleveland tied it up with a solo shot…guess they just give a crap.

Fister…3 innings…60 pitches…get the bullpen ready. WAIT! The bullpen?

If, by some miracle, we do make it to the playoffs, he will hurt us at 3rd base. Sorry, but he can’t make the plays against a team like Oakland or Boston.

don’t forget there will be time off between RS and POs

Oakland is a team built like the Tigers, No defense, they are 25th in DRS just two above the Tigers, 3 run HR and OBP( Tigers third and A´s 4th)

Cleveland just went ahead.

We have a 6th spot batter

Kathy I just lite my rally candles right before the inning.

It worked! Light a candle.

We can get our curly fries.

Well that’s better but you just can’t leave it at that and Fister needs to be as good as he can be. Cleveland is probably going to win so so do we.

Three dingers for us. Put a zero up there now Mr. Fister!!!!!

They woke up! 3 home runs. New Tiger strategy>>> do not load the bases no matter what. Too much pressure.

Tiger trivia: Miggy and Ichiro.

same number of doubles? Just guessing.

I know it’s Miggy they mentioned it either yesterday or the day before can’t remember the second one but Ichiro sounds about right.

Sox tied it!

this blog is like rollercoaster some times!

Sox hit another HR! 4-3 Sox!

back to back chi goes ahead

I’ve got the Tigers on the big TV and Cleveland on my tablet in front of me. Getting real interesting now.

So, Peralta takes Tuiasosopo´s spot?

Giambi hits a walk off for Injuns!

Well Cleveland just won….,freaking Giambi

walk off in crapland

Table turned off, replaced in front of me by a stiff drink. No celebration tonight but I’ll drink it anyway.

Turned off my tablet along with the table.

out of curiosity what you drinkin’ padnuH?

Rum, matey, rum.

nice. pabst this way.

I think the ChiSox really hate us!!!

agree with you there!!!

sliders: you hang ’em we bang ’em

Tablet back on to watch Cards’ Wacha go for no-hitter against Nats.

Infield single with two out kills the no hit bid.

Your tablet is bad luck…

pull doug!

Well here we go…..stop hitting ..,this is what can happen.

Smyly as LOOGY?

Thinking the same thing. Leyland is nuts sometimes.

*cough* it worked

6 games with 2 days of rest. And he is getting the outs

al. al al al. al al al. al al aaaaalllllll.

What’s with Ramon’s throws?

Seriously can Ramon throw a ball to first without throwing it in the dirt….it’s been an adventure the last few say.
Freaking Giambi!

“Last few days”

it’s the fatigue yo

Gardi bringing in the lefty in the 8th to face Kelly. JL needs to bring in Nick!
then Dirks for D.

that’s a good point

I don’t know why I post during the game. Leyland just does not seem to pay attention.
And now he brings in Rondon? Hasn’t pitched in a long while and yoju throw him in as a setup guy in a big game..
I’d a left AlAl in.
I guess we get to look forward to Veras in the 9th, should Rondon be able to keep this close?

no veras, please!

Heavy B with the high heat!

Rondon looked good!

Rondon looked pretty good…..

sticky situation. you bring Rondon back for 1 batter? It was a such a nice outting i wouldn’t want to ruin it tho…. Downs? Bondo available!? Evan Reed pitched a bit the other day…….Is Veras the man for the job…..he SHOULD be but he sucks…..ugh THIS PEN!! [shakes fist]

JL 1 – Me 0. I’ll gladyly give that one to you Ciggy.
Rondon very impressive and Avila probably has to be given credit for making him throw that slider. That is the key pitch for Bruce. They can’t dig in on the heater if they have to think much about the slider.
Jose Scare-us for the save?
Fingers crossed……….big time.

jose scare-us is solid gold baaaahahah

“Jose Scare-us”……good one.

skipper: no i want to run beniot back out there so he can forget yesterday.
me: sounds good i’d hate to see downs, bondo or veras go out there.

Benoit, The back to the horse JL ´s philosophy

the alternatives give it credibility [shakes head]

He’s putting Benoit out there again?

light a candle.

bullpen was good tonight yea!

JL was good with his bullpen tonight

Ok…….one more win
Damn Giambi.

JL said before the game that Benoit was available tonight. No surprise. Tomorrow? No way.
I shook the bad luck out of my tablet, Gk.

And we have assured that the season will not end on Sunday.

2006 to 2013. What are Gardy and Leyland, head to head???

Don’t count on the ChiSox.
We need to win this on our own.
I am convinced that playing Miggy is absolutely stupid. I can hear all the generalizations, rationalizations and justifications in the world. that is not what I see looking at him.
Great job by Rondon. Keep throwing that slider young man.
Would have been nice to see Giambi strike out and then we could rest the guys that need it.
There would be no excuses for playing Miggy
