Saturday’s lineups: Tigers vs. White Sox

Matt Tuiasosopo, 4-for-11 for his career off Chris Sale, gets the start in left field, his fourth start this week. Unless something changes with the roster in the final week, it sounds very much like he has regained his balance in the outfield mix. When asked about Nick Castellanos’ role before the game, Jim Leyland downplayed his role.

“Right now, you kind of just pick your spots,” Leyland said. “He’s not going to play much right now, to be honest with you.”

To answer the next question, Leyland said, “Off the top of my head, without etching anything in stone, I would say if we get in, I think that would be unlikely that he would be on the [postseason] roster.”

Brayan Pena makes his first start behind the plate since Sept. 9, the last time the Tigers faced Chris Sale. It’ll be Pena’s fourth start in September, all against lefties — Sale twice, Danny Duffy and Jon Lester once each.

The White Sox, meanwhile, shuffle their lineup against Rick Porcello, trying to reverse his fortunes against them (4-0, 2.02 ERA in five starts this year).

Dumb and stubborn. I say they should give Catellanos a chance. He is not as lost at the plate as 2E. He hits the ball and he hits to the opposite field.. He can run.
You might catch lightning in a bottle.
Trout was rookie as was Wil Myers. He’s no trout but he’s no Carp either.
Stubborn attitude and obviously JL has decided Castellanos does not deserve a chance this year.

Up to the Tigers to get to work. Houston is a lost cause and has zero chance against Cleveland.

ROTFLMAO. just listened to Jim price announcing the lineup again. Tuiasaposo (sic) ias again in LF.
I don’t get it. If that is what you do for a profession should you not attempt to be profession al.?

indeed it is nearly more difficult to say what jim does for his last name – than to pronounce it right.

Great pitching, pookr fielding and horrible scorekeeping in the 4th.
that is an error on Santiago and an error on Infante.
Great pitching by Ricky P. wow.

Sure was an error…Porcello and Sale both on their games tonight. Go tigers!

Heck of a catch by Torii

I’m just kinda sitting here watching in awe! Go Tigers!!!!!!

2E is oh for 12 in September with 8 strike outs. His last hit was Aug 28.
What about those stats is unclear Jimmy?

well he isn’t getting the PAs to really do much blaming him. You know he has done more hitting at the MLB level than Nick- more LF too! Jhonny can’t play tonight, so your options are limited.

Warning snoozefest at Comerica Park tonight! Pitching duels are boring sorry!

A cada uno lo suyo. (So far), I’m lovin’ it.

(2) too bad.

A good throw by Pena (who hesitated before making a high throw) and those 2 runs don’t happen.
The running game is absolutely something that has to figured out. Competition will have field day (literally). with us

Not me they are a bore……. It’s pretty boring watching a game when you have nothing to cheer for..
Two two out hits and two runs that’s probably enough to sink us tonight tigers sure don’t look like they are going to get anything accomplished with Sale tonight. Hell they are even working up his count it get him out of game. This team has an illness when it comes to fouling off pitches and working counts. Too bad Rick was really good. Hoping for a miracle.

2E! 2E! 2E!

Nice play by 2E

3 innings to get 3 runs. I think you are gonna have something to cheer for tonight GK.

Not if they can’t get Sale out of there and we are down to two innings now! I really didn’t expect we would win this game, but it would be nice to see them put up some kind of fight. If we don’t start being able to hit a little guys like thus I wouldn’t expect much in the playoffs. Think if by chance you get to the series do you have any faith in these guys to hit the likes of Kershaw and Grienke?

I like pitching duels. But for sure, they are better when the good guy wins

getting ugly.

Where the hell wa Infante throwing that? Jeez

Error error errors. ……excellent. Throwing in the towel appearently …literally with Bondo coming in.

Not a pitching duel anymore

Sale is an excellent pitcher. He got touched up by the Royals his last outing but he certainly has the Tigers figured out.
Yikes, does this club look bad out there in the field. Veras does not and has not impressed me much since we got him.
Bondo in? Where’s EvanRude?

Vera’s was fine the idiots behind him couldn’t make simple throws to first.
Cleveland against Sale this year
8 ER
3 ER
5 ER
6 ER

My guess is that they work counts.

But yes Sale is a very good pitcher. Just not against other teams in our division appearently.

GK, I’m not talking about this game.
Leyland could have forced the issue by PHing for either of his 8th or 9th hitters

By that I mean Castellanos instead of the switch hitter might have resulted in a counter measure by Ventura.
Sure enough it must have been on his mind since he made the move immediately when Austin came up.
Hope & Dream? Sure why not, may as well. I’m dreaming that AJ can come up with a clutch 3 run home run.

Hoping for a miracle here.

This pen stinks and stinks a lot…..3 you can count on really. Well 3 would of been hard to come back from 5 now.

6 runs now.

Shame, shame. Another shutout. This will be an even dozen to what Rod Allen calls, “the best hitting team in baseball”.
Chicago has now won their 5th game out of their last 22.

Hopefully, though somehow I doubt it, Leyland has learned something about who not use in the pen.
Obviously they will have to ride the horse with Veras but Bonderman has certainly sealed his fate. Hasn’t he?

He has 3 people he can use with some confidence…..Benoit Smyly and Veras And unfortunately he can’t use the same guys every night. Unless I’m forgetting someone?

no more shut out dan😉

Too bad they let it get out of hand or this might be exciting.

got a few runs now – if we take this one it’s going to be a big boost. 2E up next you let him bat?

andy is lost you gotta sit him!

Sale 2.97 ERA

Do I dare to dream?

Come on AJ

i love this game

Ok Torii

c’mon youngster!

Young-Ster! Young-Ster! Young-Ster!!!!

Ok Miggy please

Come on Prince!

No when it matters

Holy smokes quite an inning….Prince has been money lately

Holy smoke.
Hope and Dream!

can we finally stop trying to replace dirks in LF?

But he cant bat 6th. It is not his spot. His numbers with RISP are pretty bad

And Cabrera is replaced but Fielder cant not be PR for. Great.

Cabrera wasn’t pinch run for he was replaced because of his groin issue.

They could need his bat latter.

I guess I should be happy (and I honestly am) but two things I wished for in the last inning.
Miggy to swing on 3-0 and Biggy to take advantage of Gillespie playing virtually in left field by dropping one down..
Surprised JL took Cabby out when his mantra is to leave the big men in for their bats.

Exactly, the rules is only for Fielder

da groin mon – da groin got him out the game

I’m surprised Benoit didn’t stay out there.

No, not AlAl here.. If he walks the leadoff guy I don’t know what I’ll do.
Benoit only threw 12 pitches.

Benoit has pitched two inning 3 or 4 times as Tiger

Im sure you all realize this by now but Cabrera was not pinch run for Avila was..Cabrera was taken out because he aggravated his groin

yes. very uncool.

Yes we need Miggy!

AlAl – good call Jim! Dirks makes the play in the field.

I never said he was PR for , just replaced .I know Kelly entered as defensive replacement. But they could need hid bat later , that was the “reason” not to PR Fielder´s last week.

I read after that about the reaggravated injury

true regarding prince not being pulled for a PR because it would have only tied the game – same situation here. groin yes different – so not the same. Looked like it tho! Hopefully it was precautionary.

Yep I didn’t really like Prince not being pinch run for last week either. But what I was trying to point out is that this obviously not the case. I don’t know what info people get when they are watching on computers and such. I was trying to be helpful and not be argumentative.

alal redux successful, wowza!

Al had two successful innings….let’s get one boys

donny kelly? steal a base, baby?

The most feared hitter: VMart

dirks seems fine to me

Whooooooopi, unbelievable!

Infante with RISP:.321.375.434.809
Late/close:347.385 .510 .895

@Chris_Iott: Jim Leyland on Miguel Cabrera’s injury: “I don’t think it’s too good.”
Uh oh!

I shut off my computer once the game was tied and watched in another room. What shocked me most was when Torii got that triple in the 9th to start it all off. Everybody had written us off, but not Torii. How many times have we seen the Team just fold and not run out plays when they’re down 0-6. He got it goin Torii, Torii, Torii. Go, Tigers!!! I love you tonight!
Yes, Miguel doesn’t look good. He can’t run at all. He can hit now, but hasn’t been able to run for months.

It was pretty obvious he was hurting tonight. You could see him limp on that left hip. Something is definitely hurting him.

sit cabby or keep running him out there. the former allows him to play the later to hit. lose lose.

How about those Tigers!!!!! Touchdown in the ninth to tie the game. In fact, they matched the Wolverines in the first half. I wonder if Andy Dirks reads this blog?? Always remember you never know what will happen next in a baseball game.
