Friday’s lineups: Tigers vs. White Sox

White Sox rookie Andre Rienzo has five quality outings in nine Major League starts this year. He won’t get a chance at another one tonight thanks to a blister on his ring finger. Dylan Axelrod will make the spot start in his place.

Other than Jose Iglesias, meanwhile, the Tigers have their standard right-hander lineup going, including Andy Dirks starting in left field for the first time since Sunday.

  6. Avisail Garcia, RF (1-for-3)
  7. Jordan Danks, CF (2-for-4, walk, K)

All week long, FSD has been advertising Live batting practice today at 4:30 pm. It’s supposed to be on FSD+, but it’s not. I’m assuming the weather is bad and they canceled it?

Yep…tonight id my last game will be be really disappointed if it is rained out. Probably cant go tomorrow.

I think this game can be played, but I would suggest getting an early lead if you want to win it.

I guess we’re heading down will be annoyed if I head down there only to pay 20 for parking to get turned away.

Nice play by Ramon.

We’re ahead 2-1. But surprise, surprise! I am underwhelmed. Miggy, Biggy and Avila had horrible at bats at a time where you are looking for leadership. Each one of those players should, and could be a leader.
Biggy had the world down the 3rd base line to drop a GD bunt and get a run home, but his ego got in the way and of course, he struck out. Avila, man this guy drives me nuts. He can change like Sybil from situation to situation. What a time to have an intense and productive good at bat. But he has one of the worst.
other times he walks off. There is just no reliability with him this year.
We had this guy on the ropes and we let him up.

Dan, would a dark chocolate ice cream bar cheer you up??

we’ve gotta get dirks outta there😄

A clutch hit with a man on 3rd by Austin Jackson would. But I know this is virtually impossible.

What a relief! No agony and biting of fingernails playing in a 1 run game. Go Tigers!!

Ahhhhhhh! Feels good doesn’t it/

who the heck is this garcia guy? that hit was huge. he’s a mini beast!

Bad time of the year for Max to start having trouble.

Biting fingernails.

oh yeah, it’s time for prince to get his – we’re winning at home against a crappy team – but then VMART GOES YARD!

dirks needs a lighthouse, he’s lost :p

infante slamming it! triple!

What a funny game baseball is. Max not having a really tremendous game and is in no danger of losing. Totally different than a couple of recent starts with 19 victories. especially lhe last one.
This is a good one and the 3 errors that Houston made to hand Cleveland a run seem inconsequential right now.

the youngster is hitting

man i’m hyped on andy now – c’mon guys – he’s legit in the field, he hits righties – he used to do the little things – and heck he’s worth playing out there at least against righties.

Bob mentioned one important detail last night. He is great as leadoff or second in the order. Not good at 6th or with RISP. Like Austin , he is a table setter.
He is one of the best in LF.

prince rocket launching

Poking the critics on the eye again

Tonight’s Tiger trivia question was to name the 5 active players with 400 HRs and doubles but actually there are 6 active players Alfonso Soriano is also in that club.

alvarez huh? can we take a look at downs?

I heard Downs has an injury.

Feeling like a drowned “tiger” guys hst their hitting shoes on. A little disappointed that Max didn’t go out for 1 more batter so we could give him a standing ovation on a great season. Oh well

sorry i was wrong about the raining out part, i heard it did rain tho

Putkonen warming up in pen for 9th

12 runs tonight, 2 tomorrow?
Turned out to be Cleveland that stole one with a rainout. That’s huge in the WC race. They should require those games to be finished the next day when possible.
Bud Selig must be dancing the lindy hop over these WC races.
It’s nearly a forgone conclusion the clincher comes in Minnesota, not Detroit. Sorry, Sunday ticket holders.

I completely agree with bringing out Max for at least 1 hitter in the 7th.
JL knows how to treat mariano Rivera, he could have done much the same for Max and his fans.

The schedule makers really screwed up with their job this year. Leyland is right about finishing up in an NL park.
JL has to keep his guys ready for play. We’re not talking a week off here but there are some options for him. VMart is the most important player in this respect.
1- split catching duties (in-game if necessary) and keep in mind Brayan Pena needs work too.
2- Keep Prince’s streak going if you will but don’t be afraid to insert VMart mid-game.
3- Play Peralta at short a bit. Iggy is a wreck right now. Peralta may be needed at short
4- Remember to take guys like Miggy, Biggy, Torii and AJ out after a couple of at bats. They do NOT NEED to play the whole game. In fact it is prudent that the risk of injury is not exacerbated by too much playing time.
I hope Miggy can get his act together again before the season is over. He does not look good at the plate. I know this can change dramatically with him and I’m counting on it.
Avila needs to help himself out at the plate. First, a little self talk to remind himself he needs to hit with some emotion. Secondly, tell your boss to fine you severely for every 1st strike fastball you take . Every time I have seen Alex take a fastball down the middle I have seen the pitcher then toy with him which more often than not, results in an unproductive at bat.. Get aggressive early in the count.

They will have 4 days of rest before the first game of the DS. 2006 and 2013 redux.
Of course , this time wont be excuses since the A´s will have the same amount of rest.
Rotation? the first pitcher of the DS could not be available for the first game of the CS. So Scherzer in the second game would mean he is assured the first game of the ALCS. Of course if there is a second series. The question then is do you trust in Verlander twice in the DS and keep Scherzer for the CS?
The ideal would be : Scherzer, Sanchez , Verlander, Fister, Scherzer in the DS. Then Sanchez ,Verlander Scherzer, Fister, Sanchez, Verlander Scherzer.
With Sanchez and Scherzer being interchangeable, Sanchez is ahead in some stats
Is Rondon ready to pitch again?
If so, Porcello, Benoit, Vera, Smyly, Rondon, Albuquerque ( with a clean slate he does well)and LHP? or Putckonem?
Perlata takes Tuiasosopo´s spot or Perez´s ? Perez can play defense just below the level of Iglesias and bats like Iglesias did until this year, that is below the Inge-Raburn line. Tuiasosopo can play IF and Of with power
I expected them to clinch by september 25th. It seems it will be well before.I wont be surprised if they do it tomorrow.
If Miguel is healthy, he is not 100% for sure, better to keep him playing to regain timing

Regarding Miguel to me it looks like he is moving a whole lot better. In the last weeks or so he’s hit a lot of balks very hard but not getting any “puck luck” much like VMart earlier in the year. I think that last ball Miguel hit to center last night in the summer it would of been gone, the ball was not carrying at all last night. I think he is coming around myself.
Now there is a tough test today in Chris Sale…Cleveland knocked him around his last outing, so we’ll see. Go tigers!

True. Miguel´s Babip has been 235 over the last 14 days. . Better last week at 278. 351 for the season

Finally Peña: Jackson 8, Hunter 9, Cabrera 5, Fielder 3, Martinez DH, Tuiasosopo 7, Infante 4, Santiago 6, Pena 2. Porcello is starting.

Porcello ERA is higher with him than with Avila

Rick had about three blowout losses. Did Pena catch any of those? Blows up an ERA.

Iglesias out again. Why the insistence on Peralta as LF?They could need him at SS

I think they knew that even before Iggy’s HBP. Kid still has the leg problems and Peralta could play third in a pinch. Texas plans to reinstate Cruz opened the doors to all of that.

Im aware that he will be back and it is OK. My question why they keep saying he wont get his position back

I assume it’s saying that Iglesias won’t lose his, that he is the starting SS from now on. That’s how I took it.

I think some management comments are aimed at the player being discussed. And you just know that if Iggy had sputtered offensively there would be a bunch of people yelling for Peralta.

You could call that the “give us Barrabas” crowd.

Agree. To clarify, Iglesias is the regular but they could need Jhonny playing SS.
