Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Mariners

The only Tiger with any at-bats against M’s starter Brandon Maurer is Jose Iglesias, and that consisted of one at-bat before his trade over from Boston. However, there are no discernible trends to his pitching. Hitters have had a good amount of success against him from both sides of the plate, and he has given up a lot of home runs — 14 of them over just 72 2/3 innings.

The one surprise is Don Kelly getting the start over Andy Dirks, which Leyland attributed to just giving Kelly a game. Dirks did not look injured or anything when he went out for batting practice.

As expected, the Tigers bullpen is short again, but it gains an arm back. Jeremy Bonderman (thumb) felt fine throwing his bullpen session yesterday, so he’s available in relief tonight. Bruce Rondon (elbow tenderness) is scheduled to throw tomorrow, it turns out, not today. Joaquin Benoit and Drew Smyly are both on rest after their work in last night’s win, so look for Jose Veras to get a save chance if the opportunity arises.

Heads-up for Thursday: Leyland said today that he’s going to put Victor Martinez back behind the plate for Thursday’s series finale. Miguel Cabrera will get to DH that game, while Ramon Santiago will most likely get the start at third.

Sanchez is rollin right now, Mariners offense gettin’ RickRolled right now. lets keep it that way.

What’s the anniversary of Scherzer’s injury last September?? We can not get another major injury at this late date in the season. Could we send Bondo and Downs to instructional league to give Jhonny a good warmup?? We have eleven men in the bullpen and our manger used five of them in the past eight days!!! He did give Benoit, Smyly and Veras a great divisional series test. They look ready to go.

Bondo is injured

I missed that, what is the injury?

Why is Kelly starting? Though no one should have much trouble with Maurer.

Why is Kelly starting? JL: “To get him hitting just like 2E did last night.” That’s baseball.

Taking away the bat from your best hitter for a fly to shallow LF and a fly to deep RF. Wait until Cabrera has hit to steal the base

Please tell me it is too soon to be concerned why they are not handling a 4-8, high ERA pitcher better than they are so far.

Geez, Anibal with 7 K’s. Let’s Go, Tigers!!!!!!

Cy Maurer.

donny kelly BAAAAAABY!

that’s right!

His curve is pretty good. He has future
kelly did not run into one, it was a great pitch. Kelly adjusted well

Geez, Torii.

buggy whip from beyond the grave, courtesy of the crypt keeper

Tie game. Light a candle.

he’s getting back on track folks! Right time of year for the best hitter to get going, yea?

A HR and a good defensive play. He is in better condition

Giving the run. playing for DP? Call the bullpen

Way too late

The pitch called ball was close

“Tigers are without Smyly, Benoit, and Rendon( sic) in the pen, Scherzer reaches 200 IP, and more in the” retweeted by Jason

thank gawd pitch someone else. 1st on the docket: Al Al and his slider.

Runners at 1b and 3b , go on contact to avoid the DP. There was slow grounder and there was no DP but playing safe paid well
Head up running by both Iglesias and Jackson

I should be happy. But I could be happier. AJ does not have any idea at the plate how to drive in a critcal run from 3rd. He just does not have that instinct or ability..
We got lucky on Torii’s shallow drive.
AJ has to get better at this. Does not even remotely compare to McUtcheon at Pittsburgh

That’s what I’ve been trying to tell people. Austin is a very good CF. An Andrew McCutchen? No.

Phil Coke?

There’s a good play by Prince.

Our hitters are awful. They simply have to provide better support for their starters who are pouring their heart out.
Coke is the wrong choice here but maybe we’ll get away with it.

The fans are starting to grumble. Oh, Iggy.

Light more candles.

Good bye Phil – it has been real dude. All always remember seeing you start for us the day after my bday a few years back (i had great seats).

The failed DP did not help him

No, that was a terrible error to make right then.

They’re gonna make him throw a strike and if he doesn’t?

Make up for it.

Well done for Alvarez

That is unfair. Like Smyly early in the season, Alvarez was denied the save

good win tonight. Miggy continues to get back on track. Timing – what is Jhonny’s Timing right now!? How much is himcoming back hopes and dreams and what will it do to Dirks, Cast, 2E’s timing?

LONG game for a 6-2 final. Sanchez was good most of the time, bad at others, sometimes both in the same inning. In the theater, it may have been called an uneven performance.
One thing about Coke: good LH specialists pitch like every other day, 70 games or so. That is not happening with Phil, although I will say when Jim tried it, it didn’t go so well. Of course, if Iggy doesn’t make that unchararcteristic error, Phil is stomping off the mound to cheers.
This offense is what it is. I see no reason to expect differently with 11 games left in the season. That’s how they roll. You can see from Iglesias what some added speed can mean in this ballpark. Anyway, no point in getting frustrated with the lack of runs. You can drive yourself crazy.
Pretty good game called by Tom Hallion for the most part. A few missed ones late.

Eighty-eight wins. We match the win total of 2012 Detroit Tigers. Now it’s time to see how much we have improved by additional games. More importantly can we get a #2 seed in the crap shoot. What s/b our target now?? 95???

good posts Rich and DOK. Want to add that AL AL passed the test today – if he gets back to his old nasty self, then I am not worried about Rondon.

I am very worried about Rondon. Tender elbow is never good. And he is a vital piece to the bullpen. If he can’t come back, well, I hope the good AlAl returns.

The obvious total is one more than Oakland.
