a capable lineup as far as i can tell. i’m hoping JL didn’t want jose playing a nightgame followed by a daygame, so shoot for the sunday start…

Omar needs to be batting 6th right now….no dirks is maybe a questionable call but the fans demand Castellanos!

This fan wants a win for her birthday present!

Happy Birthday Kathy! Let’s have lots of offense again and another good game by JV to get into a groove.

Happy Birthday Kathy ! The other fans hope you receive your present

Thanks! Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy birthday Kathy!!!

Happy birthday, Kathy. Next thing you know, you’ll be pushing 40.

;-)

Happy Birthday!

Lets see if they can figure out Cy Duffy tonight.

Did anyone else listen to the interview with Nick C.? He said he doesn’t pay attention to stats, look at film, or even watch games if he’s not playing, except if he’s in the dugout.. But the killer was when he said he just waits on the fastball to hit. Hey, I hope the opposing pitcher wasn’t watching. He might not see a fastball.

Just let him keep pitching!

Nook Laloush is pitching for KC tonight. I wonder if he’s going to start breathing through his eyelids? Lol

Omg we threw someone out? I can’t believe my eyes

So, it is not illegal to catch someone stealing a base

Funny

Royals have my favorite uniform in the MLB …and yes I like it better than Detroits.

Nice play by Prince and Pena to get that out at home.

Well, you got to see the Royal Blue cross the plate.

Just like last night you think the out at home is going to save the inning but nope! Argh

They had this pitcher so flustered in the first inning, all they had to do was take more pitches and they could have walked home. But, no, they got swing happy. Now, he’s comfortable. Although, Verlander looks pretty good, also.

Loss is not in my vocabulary this evening.

Tigers going quickly and quietly now…..appearently they decided that working counts was bad and going easy is better.

There is one Royal I really like although he’s been a Tiger killer: Billy Butler.

3-6-1 DP. About time.

Butler owns JV although he’d never admit it. This game is going in the wrong direction….KC nd Duffy are picking it up and Detroit and Verlander going the other direction unfortunately.
.
Nice doubleplay

I’m glad Castelanos got a hit, but don’t you think that was an error?

yes.

OK, Torii, take your mind off the football game and get us a hit or a walk.

Nope…..swung at crap out of the strike zone instead.

Miggy did his job.

me thinks JV shouldn’t give Lough the 4 seam fastball anymore tonight

Wasted opportunities by Tigers again loom large right now. Effectively wild by KC!

VMart has cooled off batting 217 in September. I guess it was bound to happen.

Torii has too. What’s his average this Sept.?

Okay guys Wade Davis isn’t this good…….wake up!

Torii .182 in September….way cooled off since his walk off against Oakland.

Sounds about right.

Geez, Justin’s got almost 100 pitches.

And 4 runs bad Verlander tonight…..again. He has a good outing every 4 games. Otherwise he’s what you’d call a very average pitcher. Only in his own mind is he anything close to an ace or an MVP. Waste of money he is .

Yup, time to package him and Jackson to the Angels for Trout this off season.

That’s what you get for $20,000,000 this year assuming he makes 40 starts between regular and post season $500,000 tonight! Worth it I don’t think so. Aces don’t have 3.66 eras.

Average regular season era. 3.42…post season era 4.22. Two exceptional seasons out of 8 does not make an ace.

How do you know what JV is thinking, I would imagine that he isn’t happy with his performance this year. He has given us very good years and I’m not ready to give up on him. You’ve never liked him, even in his Cy Young year.

I didn’t say I know what he’s thinking and frankly in dont care. He’s paid to pitch like he’s and ace..those are his average pitchers numbers. Go look at them he’s had two great years he’s had 6 average but not terrible years. If I’m wrong to think he needs either get it fixed and earn his millions than so be it. A so called ace figures it out…..he hasn’t he’s continued his season of mediocrity and excuses. Sorry I’ve lost my patience with him.

By the way he has the 13 best run support in mlb.. Can’t blame his team.

Let’s not talk post-season. Because, as we all know, it ain’t over til it’s over.

Not even a single strike

Ya they were pretty dang close and pitches other pitchers had called strikes.

1 for 8 with 4 SO vs Holland now, for Avila

Alex Avila? Really?

1 for 8 with 4 SO vs Holland now, for Avila

Ya…although he is batting .429 in September. A crappy Verlander and 2-9 with runners in scoring position doesn’t bode very well. In order for Justin to win you need to get him 6 or so runs otherwise he can’t get the win for him or his team. 26 hits one night 5 the next? But that no way lets him off the hook.

Since I’m not one of those girls who’s used to getting her own way all the time; tomorrow’s a new day. I really wanted to see “Candelito” play, but just got to see him for a few seconds.

Candlito who’s that?

“little fire”

I didn’t see the logic of PHing Avila for Santiago against Holland. Ramon can work a walk without thinking he’s going to go deep. The goal was to turn the lineup over.
Just one move, but it’s the most recent one so fresh in my mind.

Justin pitched good except for that one pitch that got him. Otherwise, the offense went dead. They had plenty of opportunities and didn’t take advantage. What else is new?

Okay well………..this is going to come across negative. There are two myths out there. One is that the Tigers have the “best offense in baseball.” Anyone who watches them on a daily basis knows that isn’t true. They pad stats but get shut down too often, as the last two nights have demonstrated. The second myth is that it’s a foregone conclusion that they will be in the postseason. That has not been established at all. The 8.5 game lead is 5.5 one week later. Cleveland wins at home and don’t seem to make games against lesser opponents a monumental struggle. They’ve survived losing 15 of 19 to Detroit and are still alive. That’s kind of stunning, actually.
Since the end of the 12 game winning streak one month ago tomorrow, the Tigers have gone 14-15. They’ve had several such periods this year. If it seems like they don’t play all that well, it’s because they don’t half the time.
All that counts in the end is total wins and it doesn’t matter how you get there. Unfortunately, this isn’t as much fun as it could be. Hoping for a hot streak.
Baseball requires a lot of patience. If they win tomorrow, they’ve taken the series.

Not negative at all Rich. You just laid out the black & white facts. On paper this does look like a team that can win it all. But, like you, most of us that watch faithfully see the flaws. I would not be surprised to see a close contest when it comes to the division winner. Anyone up for game 163 again?

Just did a quick count to somewhat prove Rich’s point ( not that he needs it). For starters we average 5.11 runs per game 2nd best. But this really goes to pitching and offense I guess in games the Tigers score 3 runs or less we’ve won 8 of those, by the way we’ve played in 48 games in which we’ve scored 3 or less.

We’ve held he offense to 3 runs or less 73 times….

Recount 75 games

Red Sox have been held to 3 or less 53 times winning 10. Injuns 61 times winning 13. Texas 63 times winning 14. These teams have won a few more but have all been held to 3 or less more often. Thats why the Tigers have the best offense.

Yep but here’s the thing if you can’t hold your opponent down …and if you more often than not lose a low scoring affair doesn’t bode well for post season where runs are typically at a premium.

6 of the 8 wins have come after the break when the bullpen got better. I counted 6 low scoring losses blown by the bullpen in the first half. They have won 6 of 17 since the break. Thats very good. You worry about nothing.

Castellanos sure hustled on his hit. Agree it was an error, but the hustle was there.
How did he do in left?

He missed the cutoff man. Looks like he has a strong enough arm, but I’m not sure if he knows what he’s doing out there. Jim’s gonna have to put him out there again and look a little more.

He didn’t miss the cut off man, Miggy let the ball go thru.

Well, that’s good to know. Here’s another question: Is Miguel healthy enough to play 3rd base?

There are three months of .500 ball this season. I don’t recall the good Detroit teams in my memory doing that. Of course, the ’68 squad won 103 games, the ’84 team 104, and the ’87 club 98 after starting out 11-19. This year’s team is on pace to win about 93. I don’t know, I guess that’s just how it works.
I think the 15-21 record in 1-run games may be what creates that feeling of frustration. Longest losing streak is 4. Most games under .500 is one. Days in first place 120.
You’d think we’d be skipping through a sunny meadow whistling zip-a-dee-do-da out of our………uh…..well……whistling zip-a-dee-do-da.

By winning pct Tigers are last in the AL when scoring 3 or less and 6th when allowing 3 or less but have the fewest games of scoring 3 or less in baseball and the 3rd most of allowing 3 or less in baseball. I think we have a pretty good team! Just hope we don’t face the Dodgers or Pirates in the series.

As far as last nights game JV threw more than 1 bad pitch. What lost the game was the “2 base” walk to the #8 hitter and the RBI single to the #9 hitter. That walk was inexcusable!
