Labor Day lineups: Tigers at Red Sox

Fenway 029

Miguel Cabrera is out again today. No word on whether he’s available to pinch-hit, but there seemed to be no mystery whether he’d start. The wait this morning was on Austin Jackson and his status. For now, at least, he appears to be available. Dave Dombrowski reportedly told a Boston radio station this morning that Cabrera will probably return at some point in this series.

The new twist to the Tigers lineup comes after Jackson. Torii Hunter, Prince Fielder and Victor Martinez all move up in the Tigers lineup. Jim Leyland wants to give him potentially one more at-bat late in the game, presumably meaning one more chance to hit one out. Fielder bats third for the first time since Aug. 13, 2010 with the Brewers. Martinez hit cleanup four times in 2011, three of them on days when Miguel Cabrera was off.

Andy Dirks will hit fifth. Don Kelly, playing third in Cabrera’s place, will bat seventh.

The forecast in Boston today calls for showers, but probably not until late this afternoon or into the evening. They’re taking batting practice on the field today, so the weather for this morning into game time looks good.

Let’s keep a count on how many times our LHB get hits off the Green Monster. In August, the team batting average for us was .303 with a 19-11 record. Wow. Go Tigers!!!!

That’s about as good a Miggy-less lineup as can be drawn up.

I want Miggy back! 🙂

I wonder if he has a hernia.

I just looked at the radar it looks impossible.

Looks okay to me.

Oh, mercy. I hope Mister Fister gets out of this 1st inning unscathed.

What radar are you looking at Rich it looks like there are problems all over the east coast including Boston?

Horrible umpiring.

Tiger’s hitters cant make it much easier on lackey 25 pitches through 2 innings.

So not happy with the uneven strike zone….

Pissed off.. Appearently Lackey can throw it wherever he wants to get a strike call but Fister is going to be squeezed.

So far we’ve got a moving strike zone, the ugliest facial hair I’ve ever seen, and another dirty slide on one of our middle infielders.
Welcome to Fenway!

Dirty slide by Napoli. No question. Whenever I see the Red Soxs they look gross dirty and stinky and a bunch of slobs. Button up your freaking jersey and don’t disrespect the uniform.

Dan & Jim say Red Sox Nation is not happy with the trade of Iggy. They liked him a lot.

Did you get a load of tat pitch he called Avila out on compared to the strike zone he was giving Fister? I’d like to say unbelievable but it’s not anymore.

Boston plays dirty and so do the umpires at Fenway. Horrible umpires.

Torri’s cooled off a bit.

They are going to waste another double…good call with Victor but that bad swing was set up by that pitch which Fielder advanced to 3rd a strike. Cooper is an awful bad umpire. Again how are these people allowed to be umpires when they clearly have a bias or agenda?

Miguel is receiving physical therapy. He must be there after the 4th or 5th inning has been reported here.

He’s been in the dugout the whole game

The local producer was informed by Miguel ´s camp , he was receiving therapy. People was worried because the Boston network did not show him until the fifth so she called them and was told that

How much money did Red Soxs and Lackey give to this umpire?

Can ANYBODY call balls and strikes anymore?

The answer would be no. I’m glad I’m not the only frustrated person out here.

No way Jose!

Wowsers Iglesias is incredible!! He invaded Infante’s territory to make that play.

Sure is getting old with these very high pitch counts from our starters! Strike zone or not it can’t be every HP umpire. They need to start hitting the corners and keep the ball in play. Walks have killed the Tigs all year and was the achilles heel last night. This offense is punchless w/out Miggy too!

Our pitching staff is the 10th best at not giving free passes (not including today). 33 more than the best team.

Odd play , the 2B was supposed to be covering the base with a RHB.

Head up running by Dirks and VMart .
And Infante making Pedroia forgets Dirks was a good play too

Erie won their first game today and are now winning their second. Go Seawolves.

Oh, geez, Mister Fister in another jam.

Pitching duels are better when the good guy is winning.

Tired Fister at 110 pitches was still better than either guy that was warming in the pen.

Pretty bad the day for the golden glover at CF

Get the lefty.

Not a bad pitch by Rondon..Pedroia just bent down to get to it.

HeavyB with the heat!

That SO was worth the ticket

You can just tell Miggy is chomping at the bit to get back into a game. Nice job Bruce.

Veras to close.

Light a candle. Right Kathy?

Light a candle, gk.

We have to keep the faith, GK.

Just got in the door. Nice to see about all the DPs and Fister’s performance. not nice to see Veras coming in for the save though.
Rondon pretty impressive. I know Pedroia got him but he gets everybody. Getting Papi was huge.

OK, Xanax time. We cannot lose this game.

Got em!! Great way to start a 9 game road series!!

Off to Arts Beats and Eats festival for a little beats and eats and maybe a drink no work tomorrow for us. Go tigers!

Not sure why JL wouldn’t WANT to put Benoit in there after a tough loss for a relatively easy save.
Veras is OK but he is not our closer and he he is another non-strike thrower.
We really need one of those guys in the bullpen. We have too many guys that can’t pound a strike zone.

Benoit was not available after going two days in a row and throwing 24 pitches yesterday.
— Bob

That would be three days in a row for Benoit.

Like Bob said. Hi Bob. 🙂

Good win. I’m one of those who enjoys defense more than offense and Iglesias is making it a lot of fun to watch. And Omar. The old axiom is good teams are strong up the middle.

I think all axioms are old, aren’t they?

Thanks Bob. (and Rich). Veras is a bit scary. Nice takil-away fastball and a devastating curve. But he gets behind in the count a lot. Not that Benoit was doing better yesterday. lack of command in a late-inning reliever is hateful.

Did not see the game but glad to see a win. My sister and her family were there so they were rewarded nicely for representing the good guys. Keep getting the W’s while Miggy is out, makes keeping him out until he is ready easier and easier.

Yes, the Wins w/out Miggy in the lineup are a blessing! Let’s hope it is an abdominal strain and not a hernia. I’ve had both and neither are comfortable but the hernia could keep you out for a couple of weeks easily. Nice middle innings finish by Fister! Wow 4 BB’s and a HBP, not very Fister like but a Win!

Rich, there is nothing like steady, smooth defense play! Brings back memories of Tram & Whitaker! Those guys were something special for a long time.

Easy. Jose Veras gets a save in horrors of horrors, Boston!!! Is it possible that we have become loaded at the closer role???. Benoit is on a magical run. Veras filled in today and got his 21st save!!! Rondon is getting close. The SF Giants won the WS last year. Go check out their bullpen stats for 2012.
