Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Twins

Omar Infante is back in the Tigers lineup. Alex Avila is not. He went through workouts today for the first time, throwing to bases and taking batting practice. He still has some work to do before he returns, but the news is encouraging.

Ironically, I had a good talk with Joe Mauer this afternoon about catching helmets and masks, and he mentioned he has been taking more foul tips than usual this year. Then Mauer went out to hit in batting practice and felt dizziness. He was scheduled to start at first base tonight, but now he’s scratched.

Went to the to doubleheader on Friday….snoozefest, went on Saturday exciting game. Going tonight expecting a good game! Go Tigers.

After the 2 snoozefests on Friday, that Saturday game was one of my favorites this season. Mistakes…….sure, but so much drama and a walk off win. Fabulous. Go Tigers!!!!!!!

Good Luck Ricky P. He has not overpowered the Twins by any means but he has pitched reasonably well against them. It is nice to see Rick able to throw the ball by some hitters this year. 94 up and away is a nice pitch for him to have in his quiver.

Argh.

Double argh……wake up Tigers

When will JL ever learn what most Detroiters already knew 2 years ago. Phil Coke is untrustworthy on the mound.. I don’t know what his L/R stats are, but it doesn’t much matter when Coke faces his 1st hitter. He gets bombed.
I’ve been ssinging the Coke Blues for a long time now. mentioned often that we need TWO lefties for our bullpen. One to provide long relief and one to replace Coke.

Ya but Porcello created the problem. And give him a little credit for the post season last year.

Porcello looked good first few……pretty bad last two. Disappointing night so far. Most exciting thing is the squirrel running around the outfield.

Boy our bats are on fire tonight.

For a guy who is supposed to be fast Jackson hits into a lot of DPs.

Not a base stealer any more, that’s for sure. Jim might want to move him down in the lineup but I’m sure he won’t.

In the postseason, Coke dominated a LH heavy NY team that couldn’t hit their grandmothers at the time. Mirage.

Geez, we could still win, but the pitching sure has let us down tonight. Bondo looks tired.

We need to score some runs here.

AJ is a problem. He is a leadoff hitter who can’t (or won’t learn to) steal bases. Will not drop down a bunt. He is streaky. Doesn’t drive in key RBIs in critical situations. Where do you bat him? He does not excel in pressure situations so batting him 5 or 6 may not be ideal.
I kind of think he is a bottom of the order hitter.
I can’t give Coke credit for last year in the post season. Sorry, I just can’t. It’s not just that he has been a big disappointment, it is the fact that he has had som many chances and seems to be one of those guys that JL sees thru rose-coloured glasses.

Wth. That ball that thomas caught hit the ground. B.S.

Go get ‘em tomorrow. Go Tigers!!!

Go look at Phil’s numbers against Morneau…that’s why he put him in. The problem tonight was not solely on Phil Coke, Porcello stunk…the hitters couldn’t get a clutch hit to save there lives, Bonderman wasn’t great, he lucked out a bit only giving up a solo shot because dude couldn’t throw a strike to save his life. All around team loss, but Porcello put em behind the eight ball.

Phil’s going to Toledo. That was a tough interview to watch.

Alvarez can go multiple innings if necessary these next eleven days. We may need that to help out the other six relief pitchers. Could Phil throw sidearm?? He needs to reinvent himself.

I like Phil. You don’t get canned responses from him in interviews and he’s always up front with the media, even though that can get bizarre at times. He’s my wife’s favorite Tiger because, unfortunately for Phil, he reminds her of me. Anyway, he needs the work in Toledo and needs to start burying that slider to the LH hitters. There’s nothing wrong with going in for a tune up.
We seem to be getting banged up more than in any season since 2010, or so it seems to me. Every day a new casualty.
