Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers at White Sox

Bryan Holaday gets the start behind the plate for Brayan Pena, which moves Jose Iglesias up to the eighth spot in the order. Holaday will bat ninth. Other than that, it’s the same lineup.

No Paul Konerko in the White Sox lineup today, so Avisail Garcia moves up to the fifth spot. Jeff Keppinger gets the start at first base.

Time to get off the snide.

Pena is a hot hitter and he is not in the line up? Why? 2E 1 for 11? I rather see Kelly. Dan was talking to Jeff on the pre game. Jones said Verlander needs to throw more curve balls. Jeff also said he wants Rick to take something off his sinker. Go Tigers!

I was thinking the same thing about Pena, but my guess is that he wants to ride him a little bit over the weekend..
Won’t even mention stranding 2 runners already? Or maybe i just did. LOL

Porcello can’t throw strikes here in the first. Lets get a double play ball.

I don’t get why Jones hasnt gone out there?

After a run in now he goes out…hope he did not exert to much energy?

shit…what a single??? why not error???

I like it how Rod is blaming it on about Porcellos inability to throw a freaking strike. Starting pitchers are going through a stretch of non-quality starts.

Down 3-0 already? Going to be swept? They look like they are relaxing after that 12-game win streak. Going to have to get it going again. Today?

When you pitch to a catcher that is new to you it makes a big difference. Omar should have caught that ball form Jose. Omar, Omy!

Porcello can throw whatever he wants he doesn’t have to throw what’s my catcher tells him to. He couldn’t throw strikes. Jose didn’t make that a catchable toss infante had to lunge t even get to it. Iglesias ad more time.

Too bad our hitters didn’t notice their pitcher threw 37 pitches in the first and could take a few pitches and work some counts and only made Danks throw 9 pitches.

today, i think porcello is not so bad, but he already have 3 earn… because of Omar.. he need more concentration at this game

Really? The first one in the whole was an excellent job getting to the ball, but the runner beat the ball regardless of the dropped ball. The second one with the flip didnt Omar have to lunge for the ball? I’ll try to find it and look at it again, but I think Jose might of had more time to get a better throw off. Porcello could not throw strikes and got nickeled and dimed a bit but he got himself in some bad counts. My opinion

ye~i respect your opinion.. but really.. Porcello is not so bad today.. i think Omar is good defender.. he really good ..but today is not good. he wasn’t himself.. just my opinion..

Miggy continues his rampage on pitchers

What Cabrera is doing with the bat is amazing given the injury. I guess one has to follow the medical opinion that his playing won’t aggravate the injury, or prevent its healing.

3-3. Somebody was listening to me. (Miggy) Now how about a little help from the rest of the team?

Apparently the Soxs can only hit us….so far 34 hits in this series. Lots of seeing eye singles today.

Yes, Jose had more time but if you look at it again and also ask Omar, he should have caught it. That is in the past though, so let’s score some runs!

Seeing eye singling them now.

Now for the good Omar. Oh my!

I usually Google umps behind the plate I have never heard of….it looks like this is his first year, his claim to fame so far is he was umping in the Dominican and he was attacked by a manager after a player upset about a strike/ball call. The player was our newly acquired catcher I think.
that was a break with that error

Twins had a 4 run lead in the 8th and just coughed it up. Thanks Casey Fien!

I’ve missed the whole dang thing. Thought the game was tonight. Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought so too Kathy until I was setting my fantasy baseball team for the day.
Nice double play turn by Miggy…not so impressive error by Jose, I don’t imagine we will see that too often.

Miami went up on kc

Fien has been pretty good this year. Just bad timing

Veras trying to screw this up

Cleveland just went up on twins.

Yep gonna screws this up. Lead off walks can’t do that.

Cmon just bring in benoit and let him finish. The guy hasnt pitched in forever. Im sure he can get 5 outs. Veras has not been good lately. BRING IN BENOIT!

Nice job Benny

Miami just added on.

Oh i guess they did bring in benoit. Not actually watching just following the game on my phone. It must be a lil behind.

And minnesota just tied it back up in the bottom of the tenth. Still going. Possible walk off.

No walk off for minnesota yet. Tied back up going to the 11th.

Crap now Benoit is starting to screw it up you gotta be kidding me.

We’re not gonna get swept by Chicago, are we?

I’m gonna barf.

Thank God

Good but overworked bullpen for KC.

Aaaand that’s a wrap on a tough road trip. 6-4 trip, increased our lead from 3 to 6 (Cleveland leading) and 7.5 over KC as they come to town.
Six more with the White Sox. I’m going to see them dinking singles in my sleep.
And this is the dumbest schedule I think I’ve ever seen.

Wow! a much needed “W” from the end of what started as a great road trip. Now the pesky Royals come to town for a tough 5 game weekend series. What is up with Veras with the BB’s and not going a full inning? Seems like no reliever can finish an inning and come out strong for the next inning! Even Benoit pitched well in the 8th and made me have nightmares of Jose VV in the 9th. Need to take 3 of 5 or more from the Royals to take the wind out of their sail! Go TIGS!

Im gonna go on a limb and say the tigers take 4 out of 5. I think our starters are gonna step up and carry us in whats gonna be a really intense series with alot of close games. Should be a fun 4 days. I think the tigers will feed off the adrenaline from playing a very good young division rival thats on the up and up and very much in the race. The royals are good but young. Look for the tigers veterans to step up and lead them to a well fought series win. GO TIGERS!

Good victory. Castellanos must be hurt more than we’d like to think. This guy is going to help us this year yet.
What do we do with Lennerton and Dorn?

One of the best wins of the year, actually.

“Nick was a little sore when he went to hit [today],” Nevin said. “He did some hitting off a tee and was OK, but when he ‘let it go’ in BP he felt it a little bit…”

How is it remotely possible that Iglesias can make an error?
How lucky are we to have Benoit on our side?
How much longer can we go with Dirks and 2E in left?
Is Veras going to assert himself? He seems vulnerable.
Is Fielder going to hit 20 HRs this year?
Will our catchers throw anyone out stealing again?
Was there any more risky (and courageous) decision than Mayo Smith’s to play Mickey Stanley at short?

As the years pass and the more baseball I learn, I realize that Mayo Smith was INSANE to put Stanley at SS. 🙂 At the time I dumbly thought it was a fine idea.
If Veras has an issue, it’s bouts of wildness. I’m beginning to think Rondon is going to become a main man this year.
I think I’d just go with Dirks and see if he starts to hit. 2E has come down to earth. I will say, from what I saw of Matt in ST, I’d have taken him north too. But Dirks brings defense and scrappiness even if he doesn’t hit.

Note to DD—Don’t count on Octavio Dotel. And don’t foist him upon us.

He does not say much in his new post but he links to this old post about Fielder:

Read that. Can’t disagree.

Omar Infante is now above Fielder in OPS because his SLG % is higher

Holaday can run! What a novel idea.

It’s in this morniings newspapers: Prince filed for divorce end of May.

Well that makes me feel a lil better about his struggles. At least now he has some sort of a reason. I thought he was just straight up sucking. Stuff like that can really make a professional athlete lose focus. Especially a divorce. Im sure that it has something to do with it because he filed at the end of may and thats about how long hes been struggling. We tend to forget that these guys are human too and that they

Have real world problems just like the rest of us. Well best of luck to him in this trying time. Im sure he will get back to his old self eventually. Lets just hope its sooner rather than later.

Somehow I knew, if expanded replay was introduced, that MLB would choose the worst option. Managers’ challenges, NFL style.
The FIRST thing that needs to be done is improving replay cameras. In fact, they don’t even HAVE replay cameras right now.

I think a far better rule change would be the implementation of a safe bag at 1st base. This would minimize the congestion of a close play at 1st, and reduce injuries to fielders and batter/runners. Keeps the runner a tad more honest in terms of running too far inside the bag. Works for softball quite well. Not a huge philosophical change in the game. MLBPA should be all over it.

Some senior leagues have that at homeplate. The catcher turns into a firstbaseman on throws to the plate. Ball beats the runner, out.

You do not have an ideal situation when Don Kelly is a better choice than your regular left-fielder.

Got away with that when we had some punch at SS………

Yeah, true Rich. We use it wherever I play these days. Would not want to change that part of baseball though. That would be a huge philosophical change!!!!

Not to mention a softball catcher can legally use a firstbaseman’s mitt. Hey Alex, here’s your new glove!

My father used to play softball. He was a very good player as we say here” SS, pitcher and boyfriend of the prom queen( teams used to have a “Queen” elected in a beauty pageant)”. Once, he hit the ball into the gap when he was reaching third base he found the runner standing on 3B. He asked what are you doing? “I dont want a get hurt”. My father ran back to 2b. After the game he quit the league. Most fans and baseball players see baseball like my father.
