Friday’s lineups: Tigers at Yankees

Yankee Stadium 004A lot of talk about number 13 around here — no, the other one. Alex Avila has been medically cleared to play, but the recommendation from the team medical staff was that he could use a day to rest. He was initially in the Tigers starting lineup, then removed for Brayan Pena. Nevertheless, there were a lot of teammates relieved to see him back and happy to hear that he’s all right.

Jose Iglesias is also back, starting at shortstop after missing last night’s game in Cleveland with a bruised toe. Ramon Santiago said his left leg feels better, but Jim Leyland isn’t going to take a chance on that. Hernan Perez gets the start at second. That’s a pretty good middle infield behind Rick Porcello, who leads the AL in groundball/flyball ratio.

TIGERS (career numbers off Ivan Nova)

  1. Austin Jackson, CF (5-for-13, 2 walks, 3 K’s)
  2. Torii Hunter, RF (3-for-10, 2 walks, 3 K’s)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B (2-for-11, HR, 3 walks, 3 K’s)
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B (2-for-7, HR, K)
  5. Victor Martinez, DH (1-for-6, 3 walks, K)
  6. Andy Dirks, LF (1-for-3, walk, K)

YANKEES (career numbers off Porcello)

  1. Brett Gardner, CF (2-for-11, walk, K)
  2. Ichiro Suzuki, RF (7-for-22, 3 K’s)
  3. Robinson Cano, 2B (6-for-18, 2 walks)

maybe in the infield of the future!

We are a rare team. We could play our rookie 2003 or 2013 combo. Provided both are healthy at the same time. Tonight 2013.

Good one!

Funny

That’s is the first time in forever that both jackson and hunter get on base to start a game

What a horrible waste of a prime opportunity in the first. Just aweful.

Seems like it happens all the time you waste a big scoring opportunity and the other team comes right back. Pitchers getting squeezed.

Omar had a hit and scored.a run.

Take that A-Rod. Thanks Rick!

Guess I’m typing to myself tonight?

Through two innings 4 hits and one walk ….0 runs and five stranded runners. Hard to do.

lol i love when a rod is in the lineup – he stinks against us! rick looks good. 3-4-5 hitters up light a candle!

I really feel the y have tod do something about left field this year—not next.

Will Rick get any run support? Will Jose get to field a ball at short?

Dikrs numbers post ASG are better than Fielder´s and Kelly´s

dirks will come around – hopefully he’ll be “da man” by the end of the season – stay tuned.

Pretty bad throw by Iglesias

He was going to score he shoulda kept him at second…….bad decision.
.
Rick isn’t getting any groundball outs.
.
Lets he a few.

True . Bad choice

Looks the the winning streak might end tonight. Still trying to keep the faith. They just don’t look like the team that creamed Cleveland.

you notice that after Dirks struck out with the bases loaded, the next batter Pena got a nice clean hit. maybe they should have been switched in the line-up

Yep they are getting things in the wrong order…..arghh

Tigers have managed to strand 8 through 4 innings…..rather bad.

Rick will be lucky to go more than 5 innings tonight. Is this where Bondo comes in? Or Smyly?

Bondo….
.
This game is really really really boring.

Can’t get Gardner out……

Agree, boring and not looking good. As long as they play better tomorrow I’ll be happy. Can’t win them all.

Just got back from the store and had hoped the Tigers would have scored by now.

I dreamt last night that Jose Iglesius had no where to live so he moved in with me. That’s right. Somehow, I had to drive him to the games and since it was almost 6:00pm (in my dream) we were in a hurry. LOL!

my son still lived with me to, but he was still a little boy.

Iglesias still hurting?

The way they look tonight they must all be hurting……
.
Cleveland lost and KC is losing so if they don’t get anything going we won’t lose any ground.

Boy is this guy squeezing these pitchers.

That was strike

That’s a funny dream. One of the sports talk radio guys in Detroit said he can’t wait to hear the Inge-glasis complaints as his average falls.
Glad Bondo is back & hope he continues to do well.

There’s only 1 Inge, and I don’t think Iggy will be making excuses for how he’s being pitched, how he’s batting and every other excuse in the world that Brandon could think of except acknowledging that he was in a slump.

No way

Cannot believe that idiot umpire called that a strike on Hunter. Umpire screwed up knew he screwed up but still throws him out.

Since the ASG, Jackson OBP is higher than Fielder´s

Why JL did not go out just after Hunter began arguing? Now Scherzer expelled

I am so sick of these umpires. You tell him Max!

Seriously I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a worse pitch called a strike. Must be nice to get paid to be a moron.

Especially since his zone has been so tight all night. Unfreaking believable.

Can’t stand the Yankees. C’mon Tigers!!!

Torii’s a gamer!

Dirks is very unlikely to come around. We need some extra base potential in the 6 hole. Not surprised that we see ourselves struggling today. The hitting has been good enough lately but I wouldn’t say good.

Bit of a test here for Rondon in the 8th.

BTW, good deal for the Rangers.

If Miggy gets an AB here then, obviously, we have a chance.

I like Rios, can’t wait to see how he does with the Rangers.

Legendary.

To avoid walking, anything

Dirks = worthless!

He wants him to bunt?

Bad call, with Peña still two hits needed to score

That’s what I thought. Well, it’s up to Torii. He’s a hungry Tiger. Hope he proves it.

Really Perez hits a lot of stuff on the ground and probably more likely to hit into a double play if he didn’t strike out first.

If NY does nothing I’ll bett Miggy gets walked.

Kinda surprised Leyland didn’t stick with Vera’s for one more inning. After Q only Benoit left.

This umpire is a moron.

Perez makes contact and is fast, the DP was highly improbable

I just don’t agree….

This is getting ugly, AA not dependable.

Beck, one hour ago,
“This appears to be the night Jim Leyland gets his bullpen some work. Bruce Rondon becomes #Tigers 4th reliever of the evening”.

Oh, crap.

What a crappy ending. If I see AA pitch again it will be too soon.
Get them tomorrow Tigers. You’re the better team.

With a LHB , no way they catch that

It’s a toss-up on how JL used the bullpen. Yes, they held the Yankees scoreless but I still think he used too many pitchers too quickly and wound up with what now looks like the least dependable in AA next to Coke. Oh well, any team will take a 12-game winning streak anytime. Let’s start a new one tomorrow.

I agree about the use of the pen, but here’s what I also think AA because of his relative you when something like the bullcrap walk to Nix goes against him he has a hard time settling down. Tigers wasted a lot of scoring opportunities non worse than the first.

It’s been a lot of fun the last couple weeks. Go get tomorrow, Tigers!!!

i’m still taken aback by cabby’s HR. amazing hit which I nearly expected because he is such a great hitter. we’re all fortunate to watch him regularly.

Well it had to end sometime didn’t it??? I thought earlier in the game when the Tigs were stranding runner after runner after runner, but when Miggy hit that homer off of Rivera no less you just had to wonder if it would keep going. KC is refusing to lose and this week we have a big 5 game series (3 games I will be going to) is another huge series, for us and them. We just don’t seem to match up very well with them.

Martinez at 1B. Is he the emergency catcher?

Since the ASG
Dirks:255/701
Fielder:228/656
Kelly: 184/623
Last 10
Dirks;241 6BB/5 SO
Fielder:250 7BB/9 SO
Kelly: 240 4BB /1 SO
Dirks batting 6th:159/.263/.261/.523 Batting second:333/.412/.500/.912 but the lineup is etched on stone.
Dirks third in DRS among qualified LF in MLB and second in UZR/150. Im aware corner OF are not paid for the glove but with Peralta and Miguel in the left side, they needed a good glove there .And CoPa is not your usual LF
Still, is he , working for the minimum, who will receive the Raburn treatment back in Detroit while Fielder gets a free pass.

Jl conceded the game early. A 0-3 game no less.
I dont know is you saw it but YES showed Mariano saying : “wow” when the ball cleared the fence
