Saturday’s lineups: Tigres vs. White Sox

Happy Fiesta Tigres. Miguel Cabrera is not available tonight due to his abdominal strain. Jose Iglesias gets the start again at third base, with Ramon Santiago at second. Though some fans might be wondering about a possible stint on the disabled list to get this cleared up once and for all (someone on twitter even suggested he was wasting a roster spot, which sounded like overreaction theater), I’d be surprised if Detroit makes any move within the next few days. They can wait and see how Cabrera responds to treatment, then backdate a DL stint if it doesn’t go well.

For the White Sox, Paul Konerko returns to first base for the first time since June 23. Adam Dunn is back to designated hitter.

looks good to me skip

Whatever way you want to look at it, either AJ or Iggy had the winning hit last night. From what you’ve seen of Iggy so far, do you think he is a good bet for some bunt hits and stolen bases if SOC allows him? Also, have the Tigers lost any game(s) when Miggy was out of the line-up? Just seems to me the others are picking up the slack very well.

I think we’ve won all of them…..I still don’t like it though.

rest him till he’s 110%. The rest of these guys have been relying on him too much anyhow.

who are the Tigres?

It’s Fiesta Tigres night, so I switched it up.

I’ve spent an hour trying to post.

Live batting practice on FSD+

Omar is taking batting practice.

How much do you wanna bet gk is there tonight?

Other than us crusty old veterans (and I’ve got as much crust as any of ‘em), I hope people watched the live BP show. There was a lot of good insight into the day to day stuff. Trust my crust on that.

Nick Castellanos hasn’t played one inning of 3rdbase this year. Kind of wish he had now.

I watched batting cam practice it was interesting. And ditto on Nick.

Nice Jhonny it was in the shrubbery!!

Lots and lots of pitches being thrown by Max.

Iggy!!!!!!!

Wind aided.

Wow Max is getting ahead of guys but can’t put them away….hopefully it won’t come back to bite him in the behind.

Cleveland no-hitting Miami through 5. Jinx jinx jinx

Worked.

Fister out at 84. Scherzer remains at 99

I think Rich mentioned it last night, they were starting to square up the ball a bit on Doug and I agree, and with a measly 1 run lead their wasn’t room for error. But I don’t know, that’s just my guess.

He’s gonna put Benoit in there tonight?

Jeez our catchers can’t grow anyone out to save teir lives. It’s really quite pitiful.

Wow, 16-1. Max is worth a million. The offense is still missing Miggy, but good to see the pitching step up and shut some teams down until his return.

Let’s go for a homestand sweep!!!!

Wins wins and more wins. Pile ‘em up, fellas.
Jhonny hit that ball slightly less hard than he hit his own helmet. Never seen that before. His homer makes him a member of the hedgehog club.

It appears that tons of people sent tons of tweets, e-mails, and phone calls asking why the team name on the jerseys was spelled wrong. You can’t make this stuff up.

People obviously don’t pay attention I think they talked about it for a week not to mention showing in on pre and post game shows. My friend actually called and asked me about it…I told him he was an idiot.
.
Marlins almost came back they had runners on 1st and third 1 out and two ex-tigers I’d nothing. Brantly and Polanco. Thanks guys!

super pumped Iggy is hitting – for the sake of him feeling like he’s welcome by everyone and all.
.
what is prince batting now? .260?

263 but that is not a problem, he is not paid for singles but this: Slg:440 behind Infante , Peralta, Hunter and 2E. In OPS the same but just ahead of Infante, who never walks.
Over last 30:239.337.352.689 and nobody can blame VMart for his problems anymore.

Speaking of Prince. Why not put him on waivers this month to test the waters?

He will be on waivers like everyone.

From MLBTR:
“Explaining August Trades
By Steve Adams [August 1, 2013 at 2:00pm CST]
After one of the slower non-waiver trade deadlines in recent history, we’re into August, which doesnt’ mean that trades are off the table. Teams can still conduct trades in August, but they’re more complicated. Here’s a rundown of how August trades work…

Teams have to pass players through revocable waivers to trade them after the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline.
Players who go unclaimed are eligible to be traded to any team for the rest of the season. Players who get claimed can be pulled back by their original team.
Teams will often put most of their players on waivers to determine interest, since they don’t have to give up every player who’s claimed.
Teams don’t have to trade players who are claimed. They can hand the player and his salary over for nothing. Recent examples of this include the White Sox’s acquisition of Alex Rios and the Giants’ acquisition of Cody Ross.
If a team places a player on waivers after he is claimed, but not traded, the team loses the right to pull its player back. In other words, the waivers are revocable at first, but not revocable afterwards.
Clubs have two days (48.5 hours) to deal claimed players, but they can only negotiate a trade with one team. Teams have two days to complete a deal regardless of which day of the week the claim takes place on.
If only one team claims a player, he can only be dealt to that team.
If more than one team claims a player, he can only be traded to the claiming team in his league with the worst record.
If a player is only claimed by teams in the other league, he can only be dealt to the claiming team with the worst record.
Teams cannot pass players on the disabled list through waivers.
Players acquired after August 31st can’t play in the postseason.”

Cameron thinks the Tigers would need to eat 48 MM to trade him.He is one who would clear waivers. Of course, the same was though of Lee and the Ddgers( who else?) claimed him risking being awarded a 90 MM contract.

With these new athletic middle infielders, the Tigers will need a firstbaseman who can handle a variety of throws aimed in his general direction. A Hosmer-LaRoche type. I don’t know what’s up with Prince. Perhaps the dimensions of the ballpark have defeated him mentally. Or other things.

He looked so good at the beginning of the year and he has just shrunk…….not exactly sure what his problem is. I think his batting average last year was a bit of a mirage, but his lack of power including but not only homers is sure surprising.

this crap about him playing every day is totally a Fielder thing and not a team thing. Take a seat and get out of the way. Leyland doesn’t have the balls to sit him for fear of his wrath. He should do the right thing and sit his FA down.

If Miggy can go today, I’d DH him and put Victor at firstbase. That consecutive game streak that Prince has needs to end before it becomes a big issue. Besides, he needs a day off.

Cabrera taking BP before Tigers takes a decision about playing him

He has been disappointing, at least in my opinion. His salary eats up a significant portion of the working budget. It’s hard to quantify millions of dollars to athletes anyway but a guy like Prince NOT among the league leaders in home runs means the return on investment is not justified. If he is bashing homeruns and throwing the fear of god into opposing pitchers, then, he is earning his dough. He won’t bring the bacon home with his defense or base-running or OBP.
being a 1st baseman, he actually creates a bit of a logjam with his consecutive game streak. we have VMart (another 1B/DH) and Miggy, who could benefit from playing the same positions.
I think Miggy has been at least, very adequate, at 3rd, but he will be another year older (like everyone else!). I think if Castellanos could play 3rd and Miggy 1st, we might have a very productive and defensively sound infield.
This could be also be accomplished by Fielder moving to DH. I don’t think he would respond well to that philosophically or performance wise. That would also mean the end of VMart, who I feel is a more valuable team-mate.
I think he is a bit selfish and is really overswinging at times. Evidence of that is his BatAvg on 2-0 counts. It is a startling .067 and his average after being in a 2-0 count is only .151
He is a good 1st pitch hitter. Gets in trouble when he works the count.
May seem like I’m picking on him and I guess I am. He absolutely needs to start reaching the seats with the upcoming change in our #6 hitter.

Sorry GK and Rich—I honestly didn’t plagiarize your ideas! I was writing them at the same time!!! Glad to see we are noticing some of the same things.

Miguel wont play today:
Jackson cf, Dirks lf, Kelly rf, Fielder 1b, Martinez dh, Peralta ss, Avila c, Iglesias 3b, Santiago 2b. Porcello p.

Saving him for Cleveland? Now it looks that Ubaldo isn’t pitching in that series.

Danny Salazar vs Detroit

Instead of Ubaldo. The Tigers 298 vs him

Another big game for Fielder. Glad he’s picking up the slack for Miggy. 2 walks for the #4 hitter.

JL is a candidate for troll of the year with Kelly in the third spot.

World Series here we come!
another ohferr for Fielder!

Read something about someone saying that not putting Miggy on the DL is hurting. I tend to agree. He should never have played against the Nats on the 30th. And arguably, before that even.
Just put him on the DL now for crying out loud.At least it can be backdated to the 31st.
Dirks, Kelly and Santiago in the same lineup is not gonna successful too, too often!
They need some punch in the lineup with Miggy out. 2E is tapering off, Castellanos is ready and Peralta is lost.

Castellanos hasn’t even played for the mud hens n the last three or four games, the 21 year od just had a baby. (His wife).

Who would you put third? Not criticizing just curious? I agree with Rich I’d DH Cabby, sit Fielder and put Martinez at 1st. No pitcher is afraid of Prince.

…and break Fielder’s streak of playing (loosely speaking)? ARE YOU KIDDING? LMAO

Just realized Torii isn’t playing either freaking fantastic!

Jackson, Dirks, Fielder, VMart, Peralta, Avila?
Jackson,Dirks, Peralta, Fielder, VMart?

Either has Miggy.

Hunter getting the day off? Sometimes I think JL should get the day off. I swear. He thinks Miggy out is a good time for Hunter to sit?
Batting Kelly 3rd is a little ridiculous too. Kelly does a good job and comes though big sometimes. But in a lineup he is a very ordinary hitter at best and certainly not a #3.
Fielder would be good choice today but heaven knows JL will not take him out of cleanup for anything.
