Friday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Red Sox

The plan for the Tigers was to have Matt Tuiasosopo facing Jon Lester tonight. A bad swing in the cage and a left intercostal strain later, he’s on the disabled list, and Avisail Garcia is back up the big club yet again.

Garcia, predictably, is in the lineup. Not so predictably, he’s playing center field. Austin Jackson has left leg soreness, around the same area where he pulled his hamstring and landed on the DL earlier this season. Thus, Garcia will start in center, and Andy Dirks gets the start in left.

TIGERS (career numbers off Lester)

  1. Omar Infante, 2B
  2. Torii Hunter, RF (10-for-23, HR, 2 walks, 3 K’s)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B (8-for-14, 4 walks)
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B (3-for-9, walk, 2 K’s)
  5. Victor Martinez, DH (5-for-9, HR, walk)
  6. Jhonny Peralta, SS (7-for-24, 2 HR, 5 walks, 7 K’s)
  7. Avisail Garcia, CF
  8. Andy Dirks, LF
  9. Brayan Pena, C (4-for-11, K)

P: Doug Fister

RED SOX (career numbers against Fister)

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF (1-for-3, 2 walks)
  2. Shane Victorino, RF
  3. Dustin Pedroia, 2B (1-for-7, walk)
  4. David Ortiz, DH (5-for-16, walk, 5 K’s)
  5. Mike Napoli, 1B (1-for-11, K)
  6. Daniel Nava, LF (3-for-8, walk, K)
  7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C (4-for-6, HR)
  8. Stephen Drew, SS (0-for-4, K)
  9. Jose Iglesias, 3B

P: Jon Lester

2 nights in a row with no kelly. just saying.

Dombrowski on Dotel: “If we get him back at some point, which I’m still hopeful, it would be a bonus.”
thanks jason! hopefully DD just assumes he is not coming back and if he comes back —- it’s just a bonus!

Great at bat and beauty hit by Pena. alas, poor base-running though. He’s gotta get to 2nd on that throw that gets away from the catcher to his left.
Hopefuly Fister gets his A game going now.

Yes, he was waiting with two outs and two on??

I was talking about Martinez. He was safe because of the bad throw

I noticed that too. In Victor’s case I think it is because he is slower than two legged three toed sloth on the bases.
Looks like Fister is gonna have to get by with his “B” game.

This is getting a little ridiculous with Prince. He is this years DY with all the rally killing DPs.
— Bob

Hunter, Peralta

Top of the fourth. Ellsbury @ bat. Is the game in balance??

Now bad fielding by Omar

So Downs needs to pitch well? he did

Good job Darin Downs. Be ready to go three more innings. Skipper probably not in a good mood right now.

Rod Allen: “It’s not like they are hitting the ball hard”. Rod, open your eyes. The fact is they are “hitting” the ball. When Doug doesn’t strike guys out, he can get hit.
The ground ball pitcher that he is will also work against him on some nights. Same issue with Porcello.
Tigers botched this one up early with leaving runners on and smacking into DPs.
Letting a struggling Lester off the hook. We’ve all seen that story before.
Prince not helping his mates much these days.

OMG. Miggy!

Can Cabrera get us back in this one??

1 run game. 9 for 15 and he pitched him???

Im not complaining

Get him Jhonny!!!!

Put another zero up on the board for the Sox.

Next please

Hunter cost him a run. Time to give him some rest

Great job for Downs. 2 2/3 and one run caused ,again, by Hunter

Very odd angle going after that ball. Although he made a nice deke play earlier to double up Napoli and has a couple of solid hits.

Last night he gave a 3B too.
Few positives against a lot of blunders:running, throwing, fielding.

The biggest fault I see with him is he doesn’t cut balls off like he once did. Hunter definitely can no longer burn.

Coke did it

Luck there, Al2 coming

It was out

Another missed call by the umps. Pena had the plate blocked perfectly and is not rewarded for it. Honestly, can we just get robots to make these calls.
— Bob

The first was out, the second was safe

He should have been called out. Ortiz did not get out of the way in time. Pena delayed for a split second.
— Bob

Victorino is just killing the Tigers this game. He came in with only 11 RBIs on the season and has 5 on the night. Not to mention he has raised his BA by 15 points from .277 in the process.

He fits CoPa, contact and speed

Does Al Al get another opportunity??

Bring the heat Evan Reed!!!

That was bad

Will Coke be the next DFA?

not a defensive showcase eh?

Hard to win when the pitchers give up 17 hits and 4 BBs.

Rondon pitched tonight in a 8-3 game and gave up a two run homer!!!! Is he ready??? Danny Worth is 11 for 25 since his return to Toledo. Hoffman and Villarreal did well tonight. Ortega has certainly kept up his good work at the AAA level but was pulled from a game recently. Anyone know if he is hurt.??

El Tigre, does Coke have options??

Yes,he has 3 options

You can tell when Doug is on, and Rod, tonight Doug was not on. Of course he wasn’t alone. Prince Fielder must believe he is Prince Charming. Sorry to say, bur right now, he is charming his way to nowhere. Just another downright ugly game for our guys. What was the strength of the team 10 days ago is coming unglued by some good offense. This is the slowest team in the majors. The feared 3-4-5 part of our lineup, trip over each other to hit into a DP. At least Miggy is on target 36.5% of the time. We need to have them batting 2-4-6 for a few games just to get out of the funk. Torii has lost a step on the routes, and Garcia looked like he was in over his head tonight.

1. Three double plays from the team. Could have been 15-6, albeit those DP’s.
2. The 4 run rally in the fifth put us back in the game. We had a really good chance from that point, but let it all go down the tube in later innings.
3. The three run homer from Miggy. You can’t ignore greatness, and that’s what we witness. Again, Greatness can strike out three times the previous night.

Fielder earned nothing tonight. The Bullpen had some leaks, again due to some misplays and a bad call. It’s all a part of the game. I don’t dislike JVV as a person, but his baseball days, I hope are over for the Tigers. The Clown has finally been given a chance to rejoin the circus. A final comment. When will Coke be given his freedom too. I feel embarrassed for him. Mad Max coming to the show. Good night all!

Well I didn’t see one minute of the game, but from all your comments it sounds like another disappointing night for Biggy…..Fister wasn’t good I take it, as well as the pen. What specifically were these things the ump screwed up? Would they getting it right made a difference in the outcome of the game?
