Monday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Orioles

As you probably heard, Alex Avila is on the disabled list, leaving the Tigers mixing Brayan Pena and Bryan Holaday. Pena makes his first start since last Wednesday in Kansas City.

Not a lot of experience for Tigers hitters against O’s starter Jake Arrieta, so I ended up going with the hot bat with leadoff man Austin Jackson in Beat the Streak. writers’ picks can be found here.

Even though Arreta isn’t good our “hitters” in a few starts have not hit him well. Gotta get Miggy going.

Well, this ought to be good.. Baltimore is a good team and they have a good manager.
OK, where Is Rich? Out of town? Ill? Laying low? Also, where is slowbyrne? I know he felt he had to stop posting for awhile, but come on now, guys. You OK out there?

slowbyrne posted as dan yesterday . A very good and long post

Thanks! I think I read it, but didn’t realize it was him.

The boys are back in town!!!!!

Slump? que significa eso? what the meaning of that?

Adam Jones is mad. He thought he was safe at 1st.

Who was the guy who hit Valverde’s fastball for a homer this year.

That means Jose Valverde went with his best pitch with the game on the line in his one loss. I’d be upset if Dickerson beat us hitting the sputtering splitter.

Dangerous situation and Max avoids big inning for O’s. He just is much better wiggling out of jams not that he gets in many.

He’s in one now!

He escaped again.

Almost 100 pitches still in the 5th inning.

Boy, I sure would love to be at that game tonight. You can just feel the electricity. Who is going to pitch after Max?

Bottom of the fifth. Let’s knock their guy out.

Pokemon, I guess

Luke puke? The Tigers are rolling right now

Does Max go six or seven tonight??

Probably depends on how many pitches he throws right here in the sixth.

Do we have a lefty ready to go in???

Smyly for the seventh??

It’s a wonder the Skipper ever tries to sacrifice bunt.

I don’t get why he did that, but it turned into a mess.

3 quickest outs I’ve seen in a long time.

We have a closer

Lights out! Think he’ll be back out for the 9th inning?

With the game open, there was no excuse to take him out

The Skipper could be stretching him out again.

The Tigers came to play tonight and looks like they wanted to get that 10-0 record for Max.

Whoever wanted Omar in the nine hole nailed it. We would have scored more. Right??

Well I hate to say that I am a good luck charm but I have been to 12 games this year and they have won all of them. … just saying.

You were there? I’m jealous as hell!!! You could give us a rundown.

Interesting day. Been away from the game but hey—great to see Miggy go yard and Max go 10-0. Al2 somehow (according to box core) managed to strike out 5 in 1 and 1/3 IP????
I think he must have pitched well as did Rondon again.

“Mud Hens reliever Al Alburquerque strikes out all three batters he faces in the eighth, meaning he struck out five in 1.1 innings. That’s right … four outs, five strikeouts. Don’t forget the passed ball on the first strikeout of the night. Alburquerque threw 27 pitches, 17 for strikes.”

Rondon. Save, 15 pitches .11 Strikes . 2 SO

Wow, Smyly really mixed his 4-seamer and cutter well tonight to induce groundouts and strikeouts! He threw 33 pitches in a no-hit 3 inning outing! What a great pitcher Max is maturing into. Let’s see if JV can go from thrower to pitcher as well. Nice “W” vs a team that always gives the Tigs fits.

These guys need to take some Comerica dirt with them on their next road trip. two different teams show up in different situations. Maxwell continues his quest for 23-0, and Miggy and Chris are having a field day in search of the Triple C. Great Series opener for the Good Guys. Kudos to Miggy, Ajax, Jhonny P, And Omar with his four hit game. Kudos are also in order for Scherzer who continues to amaze everyone in Baseball with his pitching mastery.
1. The Orioles barely put the ball in play 50% of the time. Thirteen Strikeouts of 27 outs is championship stuff.
2. The Smyly Guy went nine up and nine down, and he kept JVV on the bench again. What a nice option to have on your team.
3. We never trailed or were tied in this game. Clutch two out single by Jhonny in the bottom of the fifth.

I would almost be tempted to flip Victor and Jhonny in the lineup to see if we could cut down on DP’s. Jhonny is doing a better job of avoiding the gbdp’s during games.
Jut a thought. Still looking for Rich. Bring on JV. Good night all!

i knew this would happen. verlander’s amazing attitude towards the art of pitching, work ethic, sportsmanship, maturity and all around good character….is rubbing off. Max just has it right now – great stuff, great ‘tude – it’s awesome to see young men with the talent and the focus to learn and apply. And I don’t want to discredit his brother dying – that could be a HUGE factor.

Do not discount the work Jeff Jones has done with Max and his ability to help him with in game adjustments. Listening to Max being interviewed, he sure does not under value Jeff Jones.

Jeff Jones may be the most underrated coach in all of baseball.

Not much sympathy in baseball. Ernie Harwell passes away . The baseball world mourns our loss. We get sympathy. Austin Jackson goes down with an injury. We get no sympathy. We just move on. Now Alex and Anibal both go down. So what do we hear?? Oh those poor Tigers we pity them. Hell no. Just move on again team. Was Lou Gehrig ready to fill in for Wally Pipp?? Yes he was. Will Holaday step up?? We are about to find out. Alvarez has already stepped in for Sanchez one time . Let’s see what he does against the Red Sox. Go Tigers!!!!!

I was chillin’ at the Jersey shore this weekend. Could have commented even though I didn’t see Friday and Saturday’s games, but I’ve got nothing to add. Just enjoying the baseball. Maybe after eight years I’ve said everything there is to say. 🙂
Indications are that we’re going back to a mix and match 9th inning.

Missed the game but saw the replay on the bases loaded K of Davis. That was as impressive a K as I have eve seen.

twas doing my checking of AAA stats…..Al Al and BReal really can’t stop walking people at alarming rates — but Rondon is mowing through AAA batters — look for him to be coming up soon.

He has been throwing strikes. Not sure if he is throwing his secondary stuff much. I presume he has been told he has to work on that.
Can’t keep him down too much longer.
