Friday’s lineups: Tigers at Rangers

Rick Porcello gets to start on turn against a Rangers club that has hit him for a .383 average and .964 OPS in five career starts, not counting his relief appearance in the ALCS a couple years ago. That said, much of the damage came in that disastrous outing last April, when Texas got him for nine runs, eight earned, on 10 hits in an inning plus at Comerica Park. He actually beat the Rangers a couple months later with six innings of one-run ball in Arlington.

Ramon Santiago gets the start at second, giving Omar Infante a day off.

On the Rangers side, Ian Kinsler is out with bruised ribs. Leury Garcia starts in his place.

What is Rick Knapp doing lately?

He joined the Los Angeles Dodgers organization for the 2013 season as their assistant minor league pitching coordinator.

Jones has been great for all the pitchers but one who won a Cy Young with him

Well quick easy outs are about all Fielder and Hunter have been good for lately.

I hope Tigers hitters are watching closely on what it is to work a count…..Texas hitters are working it. ..instead of these quick easy outs that seem to be our MO

Well they made him throw more pitches but just hit slow rollers in the infield.

Boy are the fouling off Ricks pitches…….

Another great decision by Brookens…… People in Tigerfandom wanted Geno sent out of ton for far fewer being thrown at home. Yes it was a pretty nice throw, but the ball want hit deep and its his job o know the arms of the out fielders. And it isn’t us a run.

That’s the ball wasn’t hit deep

Let’s watch the replay.

How is Don doing defensively??

He’s only had to go after 1 tonight… was a gapper for a triple but was part of a relay that nearly got the runner out at 3rd…..and I mean very close! Very close

FSD sure has gone big-time with flying in C-MO and Ryan to out of town games. Can’t remember them doing that previously.

Not two but I think C-mo is from Texas so that’s why is my guess.

We’ve seen this before. No run support when Rick is pitching well. How long can he last against these Texas hitters?

Ricky is pitching very well thus far. Not giving in to Moreland in the 4th was pretty impressive IMO.

I agree!

Andy’s pants have a big tear in the back.

and changed between innings.

Bases loaded for Alex. Light a candle!

Well they got a few there and that’s cool …I feel like there shoulda been more.

Pokemon starting at Toledo

Pokemon? Is that Plutoneums new name?

He is far better now

Didn’t we agree on Cool Hand Luke??? Easier to spell?? Oh, he did quite well again. Does this make him our trade chip??

Man wouldn’t it be nice if we could follow up a multiple run inning with a shutdown inning of our own?

Too close for comfort, that’s for sure.

No match-ups today . In game at least

I would have let him get that last out

I’m not sure if it has already been noted on this blog, but BB was optioned to Scranton on the 14th by NY.

Yesterday played vs MudHens

He started his Triple A action in Toledo!!!

Cleveland won 6-3

Well JL did the right thing by PRing Omar and bunting with Andy against the LHP. Unfortunately, the plan failed to work.
Gonna need a good at bat here by Torii and hope Cabby can do something to take the edge off the 9th inning being manned by JV2

Torii hasn’t done much in a good long while.

Here we go!

My head hurts.

feeling better?

Dance PAPA.

Save number 4!

Good job by the pitching I can’t say the same for the hitters with the exception of Miguel and Andy, everyone else needs to learn how to hit again.

Beautiful dp in the 8th.

Good win! Real good win.

The goal is to split with these guys, If you’d told me this afternoon that Rick would handle the Texas guys easier than JV did the night before, Id call you a liar. Or as WAPO does it, I would have given you 4 Pinochio’s (SP). This game sure is funny. One would swear that Porcello would last two innings at best. I’m really happy for him, as he has pitched well in his last five starts. Big victory. Kudos to Rick and Miggy, along with the”Mooner”, Andy Dirks. Some good thing about tonight; I have listed my three.
1. The 9 pitch AB that lead to the Sac Fly for Alex. That should give him 50 bonus points for his average.
2. The solid DP in the 8th. to keep the lead. That was the play of the game.
3. Grinding through those AB’s again tonight. Their guy lasted five. Because of this we walked more than we struck out. Great stat.

Need a big night tomorrow from Anabel. If we could take this one, it would give us a chance to win the series. But first things first. Enjoy this win. Good night all.

Well’ the Tigers managed to stay tied with the Tribe for 1st. I’m starting to think the Indians may be for real. They swing it and their pitching is coming around.

We have reached the forty game mark and more than a few things about this Tiger team would have Sparky smiling down upon us. Our Tigers lead MLB in runs scored, batting average, on base %, and OPS. Not bad at all. Compare that to last season when we were probably between 10th and 20th after forty in all these stats. He might even be a little envious of the Skipper based on what the starting rotation ( 20-10) has done the first forty. Very, very solid. This infield has performed at a high level so far this season with all four deserving of getting many votes to play in the All-Star game. Let’s hope that Miguel can at least get a start!!! Those two outfielders have done a great job at the top of the lineup, too. Hey, the third OF helped out at the top of the order with the recent injury situation. Our defense is vastly improved over last year. Our catchers and bench has given us a lift with a few game winning rbis. 23-17 and tied for first in our division. Yes, we will take that. Move forward. And try to get better. We play in a very competitive division. Last year I was very honest and blunt about it. Our division was very weak. Forty games this year and it is obvious that four teams in our division are feeling better about themselves. This could be the ultimate dogfight. Go Tigers!!!!!!

Cool Hand Luke or Pokemon is now back to starter. With Crosby on DL, he is first option to spot start. Alvarez and Hill are not in the 40 roster

Meanwhile, Below called up by the marlins

The Tigers will need to improve upon their 5-6 record in the Central and a 4-6 mark in one-run games. Subtract the games with Houston and the overall W-L is 17-16. They took care of business against the Astros but need to win more elsewhere going forward. That’s my 40 game take on things. There have been a number of good individual performances.

The woefully poorly managed Miami franchise put Evan Reed on waivers, and he comes to Detroit and is on the big club. Odd stuff.

Speaking of Miami, rumors continue to float about Stanton on MLBTR. I thought the Seattle deal might fly a while back. He looks like he is made of granite, but seems to be as fragile as glass.

Cleveland plays with a lot of confidence in their ballpark. Probably best to have that be a two games series at this point in the season.

Fielder , May:222/.382/.389/.771 10 BB/11 SO

Tonight’s lineup: Dirks 7, Hunter 9, Cabrera 5, Fielder 3, Martinez DH, Avila 2, Peralta 6, Infante 4, Garcia 8. Sanchez is pitching.

The former Tigers on parade, Rhymes and Kobernus vs the MudHens today

And Jair is throwing for the Orioles today.

I go all of the Tiger signatures or free because I am related to Justin:)
