Friday’s lineup: Tigers vs. Indians

The Tigers get their DH back with Victor Martinez, which obviously stretches out the middle of their lineup again. The Indians, meanwhile, welcome back Michael Bourn from the disabled list tonight. That fills up the Tribe outfield without Ryan Raburn, who will make his return to Detroit from the bench.

A reminder: With the Red Wings playing tonight down the street, the Tigers will be on Fox Sports Detroit Plus, rather than the main channel. Likewise, the radio broadcast will be on AM 1270 but not 97.1 FM.

Bourn back just in time. Aren’t we lucky.

Max better not give anything good to kipnis or anyone eslse for that matter……guys on fire

in kipnis’s last 30abs .300/.290/.767/1.057

Off topic, who was worse? Culbreth or Hernandez? I think, the first even if the second deserves to be fired

Agreed, Culbreth. That rule is as old as..well…. the books. How that crew got turned around on that one is beyond comprehension. It was a rare case of an MLB game being played under protest, and rightfully so.

what exactly does it mean to play a game under protest?

“4.19
PROTESTING GAMES.
Each league shall adopt rules governing procedure for protesting a game, when a manager claims that an umpire’s decision is in violation of these rules. No protest shall ever be permitted on judgment decisions by the umpire. In all protested games, the decision of the League President shall be final.
Even if it is held that the protested decision violated the rules, no replay of the game will be ordered unless in the opinion of the League President the violation adversely affected the protesting team’s chances of winning the game.”

Of course, for our generation it means: “Tar pine incident” or George goes mad

interesting so basically if you lose the game over the blown decision by the umpire (not a judgement decision) – then you might replay the game, at the presidents discretion?

Rule misapplication, yes. I remember only the tar incident in MLB with the game continued.A LH played 3b because of that.
Once Sparky protested the use of pitchers a DH and not batting by Weaver but the League agreed with Weaver and changed the rule later.

Jhonny, last 14 days :349/.408/.465

i just realized no rugburn in the lineup, what gives?

Bourn

good thing we pitched to kipnis there

Bourn is back in the lineup for Cleveland and Ryan has cooled off some since his torrid three game streak.

So he walked Martinez to face a LHP

OK, Tigers. Let’s move those runners around.

He fears Avila

And was right to

Dan and Jim said it was 71 degrees at 5:00pm and the temp has dropped 15 degrees since then. I couldn’t believe the players did not have long sleeves and headcovers on since the cold spell hit mid-Michigan early today. Had to wear a sweatshirt, jacket, hat and gloves to pick up my lawnmower and walk it home. Turned my furnace on.

Lost a run?

torii out at 1st before omar crossed home plate. hunter overran 1st.

45 degrees in GR. Way to go Torii but what happened at first?

Another bad running, 10 counts so far?

No-doubter, baby!

The big fella!

BOOM

Well Richard, looks like the team is staying on the trend of beating the on team.

So far, so good. Let’s hope they keep it up.

Belle Tire, Andy!

idk. All I know is some lady named Kathy/Cathy forgot her last name won a prize because Andy hit the Belle Tire sign with his HR. Don’t get to see that happen very often.

Was he given the handshake of doom?

That reply above yours, ElTigre, is supposed to be in reply to your question. No, I’m not the Kathy referenced, but I sure wish I was.

Round 1 to the Tigers. Bottom of the order was dynamite tonight.

I just got back from the game. ….freezing 49 when we left

I’m sure Cleveland isn’t as bad as they looked tonight nor as good as they were on that 8-1 HOME stand. Suddenly, Scherzer is knocking on the door of complete games with regularity, something I never thought would happen. Zero walks.
I like this season so far. Consistency.
I think more hitters should swing 3-0. Good job, Alex. Just hit it hard, didn’t try to drive it out of the park.
I guess a lot of folks are watching hockey. I do have it on.

Wings win too!

:-)

What a nice and relaxing game to watch this evening. The offense showed up in a big way. And Mad Max continues to throw strikes. Kudos to Miggy, Biggy, and Squiggy(Avila). Also props to Jhonny and Omar for continuing to get timely hits. Jhonny P continues to play as steady a shortstop as anyone would want. All hitters are now above the Mendoza Line. And Tiger fans continue to feast off of Curly Fries. There were three things I really liked about this game:
1. No Walks Max does it again. This is remarkable considering the fact that he makes Gumby look stiff.
2. Every starter had at least one hit tonight. The bottom three are doing a great job right now.
3. Andy Dirks aggressive play. Not only does he hit a Tater, he steals a base. Smart base runner this Dirks kid.

Alex and Andy are having good AB’s right now, and V-Mart is not far behind. Torii is cooling down a bit, but I still love his high energy approach to the game. Great opening win. Good night all!
