Thursday’s lineups: Tigers at Nationals

Tigers stick with their regular lineup against right-hander Dan Haren. Victor Martinez is 9-for-25 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs against Haren, but no DH spot obviously limits their options. The one other Tiger with extensive success against him is Omar Infante.

TIGERS

  1. Austin Jackson, CF (1-for-7, triple, K off Haren)
  2. Torii Hunter, RF (3-for-10, double, HR, walk, 3 K’s off Haren)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B (3-for-16, HR, 3 K’s off Haren)
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B (3-for-5, double, walk off Haren)
  5. Andy Dirks, LF (2-for-9, double, 2 K’s off Haren)
  6. Jhonny Peralta, SS (6-for-25, walk, 6 K’s off Haren)
  7. Alex Avila, C (0-for-8, 4 K’s off Haren)
  8. Omar Infante, 2B (7-for-15, double, 4 K’s off Haren)
  9. Doug Fister, P (2-for-10, double, 4 K’s career hitting)

NATIONALS

  1. Denard Span, CF (7-for-20, double, triple, walk, 3 K’s against Fister)
  2. Roger Bernadina, LF (1-for-3, K against Fister)
  3. Bryce Harper, RF
  4. Ryan Zimmerman, 3B (1-for-3 against Fister)
  5. Adam LaRoche, 1B
  6. Ian Desmond, SS (0-for-2 against Fister)
  7. Danny Espinosa, 2B (0-for-3, K against Fister)

WWII Memorial. Have yet to actually visit it. Time for another tour of DC.

Never been to D.C. but it is on my bucket list, just waiting for the kids to be older at this point

I once found myself (for a few hours) at the DC greyhound station, at roughly age 21. Smoking and hanging out with bums and some other shady characters. Just one part of a crazy story from younger days.

Both the World War II and Viet Nam Memorials are inspiring and gutwrenching at the same time. Sadly, the students I taught will never know. Must See visits.

Jason, are these archived photos or did you take them yourself? Regardless, thanks.

The photos from today and yesterday I took on my run around the National Mall yesterday morning. During the Seattle series last month I thought I’d try to throw in a photo on the lineup posts for road games.

I, for one, like the idea.. It adds a little flavor to the regular stew.

yea i think it’s cool too!

Sometimes the Viet Nam Memorial is so gutwrenching I have to skip it when I’m down there. All those names. Names of people you know. One guy from basic training, already 26 years old, married with two children, alongside all of us idiot 19-year olds. His name is on that wall.
Anyway, I hope the Tiger contingent enjoyed their stay. DC is both fun and sobering at the same time. Lots of bad weather, but it extended the time for everyone.

Notice how Cleveland gets hot about this time of year every season?

I wassaying the same thing last night.

What a crappy start……

Getting crappier………Fister isn’t fooling anybody and now another error!

There’s the Peralta Range (or lack thereof ) rearing its ugly head.

ouch, just turned on gameday and see we have spotted them a lead. Hope they can stop the bleeding. I am going to the game on Sunday and see Porcello is pitching – my 2nd game this year and both with Ricky – hope I see a good performance, was hoping obviously for JV for my Mothers Day treat. Come on offense, we need a lot of you today.

hey my wife and I are going as well! Section 338!

I too thought JP might have been playing more toward the bag. It was a DP situation after all.
Our team needs to hit more homers. No way this stable of hitters should be not among the league leaders.

off to see a Mud Hens game tonight, talk about a depressing team – can’t stay for the whole game, kids have school tomorrow so won’t get to see Coke I am guessing but you never know.

Wagner said Coke was expected to throw one inning today

Gotta say Fister took a nice hack. AA also hit the ball to the pull side and looked decent doing it for a change. Pretty good balance and didn’t roll his wrists over.

i really liked that hit by doug. I guess after a couple of years one forgets how it feels when your pitcher gets a hit. :p

9? HBP

10HBP

Span hit, my you know what?

The ball did not touch him

Well I will say Fister was probably being squeezed a bit in that Bernadina at bat but you can’t walk a guy batting 133.

And squeezed with Zimmerman….. Honestly.

Toledo Lineup for tonight: “Diaz 6, Cabrera 2, Garcia 9, Lennerton 3, Castellanos 7, Dorn dh, Russo 5, Berry 8, Douglas 4, Alvarez 1″

I agree with Eddie Kendricks: “I Wish it Would Rain”.

Jackson is struggling defensively today. Don’t see this often, thankfully.

Deanrd Span give me nightmares.

I hate this game today. Hope they decide to show up tomorrow. ..Cleveland is doing well right now and we look not good

Even a good team has bad games. This is a crummy game but they’ll have many more good ones. They have one of the best records in the league but no team has ever won all their games.

True…what I don’t like seems to be a lack of interest. Although how the heck would I know,

Awesome wasted lead off double…..

Nice 2E

Peralta set it.

Maybe 2E can be an effective PH against RHP. That would sure help against NL teams.

Especially since the Central could conceivably weigh on a final season series battle against an NL opponent.

what a bunt by omar! looked like that one dirks hit a few weeks back. freakin perfect. wow. wow.

that sound off 2Es bat will be keep’n dan haren up tonight. holy smokes. I’m over here yelling at the TV about 2E facing a righty in a tough spot – and then that sound graces my ears.

Boy 1-4 in the lineup not looking very good today.

Just turned the TV on to watch the game. What??? Thought it started at 7:00. Oh, my, we need some runs. Go Tigers.

8 left on base. What else is new?

side effect of 2 out hits

Yep.

Too many left on base and some of it is probably because of the Stupid nl rules…..it really limits a team like ours. I suppose you have to be happy with a 4 of 6 road trip, but somehow I’m just disappointed we didn’t win one of these two games. Hope it goes better at home.

The Tigers have a winning record vs the NL since 2006. But for Miguel they dont hit on the road against NL or AL teams
The weak and mismanaged bench did not help either these two days.
Add bad defense .

Not sure how the bench was mismanaged today?

Yesterday, not using VMart for Avila. And today not using Peña for Avila as starter

Amen, amen!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Alex did get good wood today. I actually was encouraged with what I saw him do today.

Well, at least we had a chance in the 9th. Inning. Just not meant to be. Better be getting pumped for the Indians which is no slouch. And Terry Francona is a good skipper. Doug was flat today. Torii and Ajax couldn’t get us going today. There were three good things to glean from this game today:
1. Bullpen was outstanding. Five innings, one hit, one walk. They gave us a chance to win.
2.Avila’s four AB’s. Nothing wrong with the swing today. With anu luck, he could have been 3-4 instead of 1-4.
3. Omar’s bunt single. We’ve got to utilize more those few players with any speed.
Ajax, Torii, Andy, and Omar need to be bunting more for base hits.

Kudos to T-Soap, who was most of our offense. Also kudos to Jhonny, Omar, and Darren. Hopefully, this weekend will be successful. It ain’t going to be a runaway.
Good night all!

Gacia is hitting in the Minors but only singles:526

I was sitting behind about 25 rows behind the plate today. Avila’s made loud contact hit first three times up and cracked his bat on the single. He looked like he was seeing it well today.

how’d that hit by 2E sound?

It was a no doubter when it left the bat.

We had a number of hard hit balls in the two games that became outs. The Nationals announcers (FSD feed blacked out here) made it sound like the Nats were making great plays but they were really rather ordinary catches. I’ve listened to those guys for some time now but they were irritating when my real team was the opposition. They stick with the game well, with no long extraneous discussions, but they are a little too homer-ish to suit me. Or maybe I’m just too used to Mario and Rod. Glad the series is over.
Those are two evenly matched teams and the Nats got the breaks this week. I think Denard Span has gotten into Detroit’s heads. Actually, he’s just a good ballplayer.
Yesterday I got a pounding thunderstorm on the drive in, a one hour rain delay, and dense fog for the drive home. I have tickets for the Baltimore series. Tornados next? Maybe a hurricane? Alien invasion?

Well it’s not hurricane season…..I’ll go either alien invasion or snow blizzard.
