Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers at Nationals

nationalmall050813As you can see from the photo, the weather was fantastic in Washington this morning. It is not supposed to be nearly as great tonight. Whether it’s going to rain looks like a 50-50 chance at game time. Any rain, however, is expected to be scattered, so there should be some sort of window of dry weather to at least start the game.

(Update at 7:25pm: Nationals have announced that grounds crew is aiming for an 8pm start.)

Lineups remain the same.

  6. Jhonny Peralta, SS
  7. Alex Avila, C

Astros releasing Ankiel seems pretty stupid. The guy may not be hitting for average but he plays well on D and does have 5 dingers in 25 games. What are they wanting? Cespedes? Trout? Harper?

Wells should be there soon, right?

can Ankiel pitch in a jam?

I am thinking there is more to that story than on-field performance.

anibal might not have some of the accomplishments Justin has. But, he does have 21 more major league hits than Justin.

Just looked at the radar……boy it doesn’t look very good.

Anklel will be claimed and they award the contract cutting budget? That will help the reconstruction process .

BTW: Halos and Marlins are fighting hard for the last place

I guess Rich is on his way to the stadium but he can exchange his tickets for any game in the future. Of course that works for Nats fans not Tigers fans:

Well Zimmerman the pitcher has everything working right now tonight will be a real test for our hitters. That’s if they play the game.

From the Free Press:
“Note: The Nationals revised their ticket policy today regarding postponements following Tuesday: “The Washington Nationals wish to announce that all fans who purchased tickets for Tuesday night’s postponed game with the Detroit Tigers will be guaranteed their same seats for Thursday’s scheduled 4:05 p.m. makeup game, or will retain the option to exchange their tickets – as they have in the past – for any remaining regular or value home game during the 2013 season, subject to availability. Due to increased attendance at Nationals Park, “rain check” ticket holders are encouraged to contact the Nationals ticket office by phone or online to better ensure seating for those games. The Nationals apologize for any inconvenience.””

A good policy! Kind of surprised to hear about Ankiel, myself.

Is there an ETA (sic)?

The #Nats/#Tigers game will start at 8 p.m. ET.

We have A´s -Cleveland , until the game begins

Hard to believe it’s raining in DC and not in Baltimore. Same thing happened last night. I hope this doesn’t change the momentum for Tigers’ pitchers and hitters.

PLAYBALL!

Nice pick- off! Sit down Span!

Good defense at the corners for the Tigers. Again.

Twins over Red Sox 11-6 with the Red Sox still batting in the second.

Fenway doesn’t seem to effect the twins like it does the tigers

We wilt there

Without the ball leaving the infield

Ribby Miggy.

Denard Span must like seeing the Tigers in town.

Geez, back to basics tonight.

I guess it may be somewhat obvious, given his age, but Toriii seems to have lost some foot speed this season.
Sanchez not really sharp through the first 3 innings.
He had one of the worst at bats I have seen all year.
These announcers aren’t bad. Not like some of the homeys I have heard from other teams.
Tigers sure like to put an exaggerated shift on against LHB. Gonna get burned a few times like Carlos Pena did.

Bad pitch there

Why?There was no need for that throw

Well that was a big blunder by Torii and company. Why does crap like that never happen in our favor?

The Tigers had too much rest and good pitching beats good hitting almost every day.

This looks like it could be one of those games. You know the kind I’m talking about.

How would you like to bat 8th fro an NL team?

Home run pitch to Harper right down the middle……horrible pitch. Didn’t realize that was the first home run Anibal had given up this year until Mario said.

“Sanchez last allowed a HR on 9/20/12 vs. OAK — 59.2 total innings w/out a HR” Rick Thompson

Zimmerman is really good but the guys have to try to grind some AB’s together and do something.

Does Alex have a good AB about every 10 th at bat?

That sounds about right GK

Miggy to get us started.

Just not feeling it tonight. …but I always hope

Another quality ab by Avila. Doesnt swing at the strike swings at crap of the zone

Another wasted QS

Well it’s up to Omar to get us going. We get a couple on and we still have a chance.

Almost.

PH Martinez for Avila in the eighth. That pitcher was in trouble. That was the spot to use him.

Sort of blah tonight. Not a lot to be excited about. I’m still trying to make up my mind about driving back tomorrow for the 4:00 game. Its about 8 hours roundtrip. Might let my son use the tickets on a swap out for later on. Hope Rich had a nice evening. The Zimmerman guy can pitch.
1. No walks from three different pitchers. Solid.
2. Getting the lead first and early. Unfortunately, it didn’t hold up.
3. The 10 pitch AB by Dirks in the 8th. He worked a walk after being behind in the count. Gave us a chance to tie.

Kudos to Miggy. Good night all.

Greg…..just remember our guys never even when Haren stinks hit him very well? Just saying. But then again ya never know?
