let’s keep these runs up for Mr. Verlander.

Leave the Tigers, trend on Twitter. Boesch Saturday for his homer and Delmon today for coming off the DL. Everyone wants to know if he can play RF. I hope they’re not holding their breath.

Appearing in Cleveland tonight, Ryan Raburn and Delmon Young on the same field since………uh……..when?

Both playing the OF?? Last April probably.

“playing” the OF.
.
does anyone else always think of the time Ranburn collided with the wall in deep center at Jacob’s field and the FRIGGIN DOOR flew open because it wasn’t secured? Guy had the worst luck i’ve ever seen. Didn’t help his glove was filled with cement.

The worst luck. I cant remember where that happened, but I remember it. I also remember when he jumped in right field for a homer at Copa and his arm wedged perfectly in the gate by the Belle Tire sign and his arm and glove were stuck. The dark cloud always followed that dude around.

Who got the inside the park homer on the play??

JHONNY PERALTA!

Sure wish I could have been at last night’s game because I was only a few miles away in Royal Oak to attend a conference. Got back to the motel just in time to see Prince hit the bomb!

Did not agree with Jim on Rondon’s debut. I did agree with his use of Smyly and Benoit last night. Richard, I too, like Rich, watch the game in another room and do like to comment during the game. My wife hears my comments tho :)

DB, does your wife also tell you: “you know they cant hear you, right?” :)

2nd guessing is our right as a fan as long as we aren’t overly disrespectful about it. It is always been that way and always will continue to be that way.
.
I did not agree with the 9th inning on Sunday but in hindsight it might have been the best thing overall. If VV was available last night JL might have brought him in for the start of the 9th. I would have preferred Smyly to pitch to the LHB but JL probably would have went by the :Book” and gave the “closer” the clean start.
.
However, I did agree with bringing Benoit to face the last batter. Here is my thinking. If Smyly lets Plouffe get on, JL will go to Benoit for sure. If “homer happy” Benoit serves one up, we are now down a run. My feeling was if Benoit was going to give up a homer, he might as well get it out of the way with nobody on with us still tied with an opportunity to win in the bottom of the 9th.
.
My reasoning may not make alot sense but that is why I am the fan and not the skipper. Doesnt mean anyone on here cannot opine their thoughts before or after something happens. That’s the added fun. It is also a way to vent frustration. :)
.
Go Tigers.

i agree with that logic

I felt sorry for Smyly but the out at the wall probably swayed JL from any further sentimental thoughts.
I had more of a problem with stretching Q out the game before where he seemed out of sorts and just got away with it in his first innings.

That flyball had nothing to do with Smyly being pulled. JL’s plan was the way it went.

Rob Neyer: the Tigers will be the best 1-5 once Smyly is added to the rotation

Avila going deep

1st inning JV 8pitches, 8 strikes, 3 outs. All-Star Ace. 2nd inning 33 pitches. Struggling already?

Twins know how to grind but He still have 3 more innings in the tank

The fast 3rd inning by the core did not help him.5 pitches, seriously?

Why was Jackson running to third with a grounder to SS?

I think at first he thought it was going through. Then it was too late to change his mind. A mental mistake. But Prince picked him up.

We have a saying for that: “There is no I thought in baseball”

The Twins announcers’ joked and said he was providing job security for Cox, the running coach.

The boys are picking each other up now. Prince buggy-whipped that bad boy.
.
Go Tigers.

Raburn and Young are a combined 4 for 5 and have both gone yard.

Wow. Is Raburn aware what month it is? ;)
.
— Bob

Yeah, unbelievable. He is hitting .320 with 4 dongs. He just went yard again.

One more?

8:19, he has 3 more on the tank.

First game in the NL and Delmon gets to DH. Raburn four homers the last two days.

Martinez looks like he may be hurt.

Is Vmart Injured?

The bad attempt to score?

No, it looks like his hammy may have tightened up. I just hope it’s not his knee.

Looks like something happened about when he hit first.

thanks, did he jumped at it like Avisail and Infante yesterday ?

Did not look that way to me.

Another balk

BTW. Delmon actually looks like he is in good shape.

Thanks for the information, Richard

You are welcome.

I saw that with Victor too. As an aside, my wife marvels at how I pick up injuries as they happen. Only baseball injuries, though.
Verlander is rolling along but it doesn’t appear he’s hit his stride yet.
If no Coke, bullpen is short tomorrow.
Pretty good baseball being played right now.

yea we all saw that over here – anyone listen to the game? what did jim and dan say? I’ll listen to them tomorrow morning if not. Vmart was pulled immediately afterwards….

It won’t be long until curly fries are replaced with carrot sticks, especially if Mayor Bloomberg had any say in Detroit. But the curly fries are suddenly in demand as each new game is played. I must admit that the Tigers have looked quit good over this 5 game winning streak. The best part is that the three strugglers are all showing some signs of life. Could you imagine that lineup if everyone was at full potential. It would be downright spooky for the rest of the league, but lots of fun for all of us. I’m giving kudos first tonight. Hats off to Miggy and Biggy for doing what 3-4’s are supposed to do. And after Justin settled in, he gave his usual and dependable quality start. Also, hats off to Drew for his 8th. inning performance. Now I’d like to share three things that I like about this game:
1. Ajax got to the double by Ramirez, and prevented the second run from scoring in the second inning. This kept the Tigers on top 2-1 after two.
2. Alex has a beautiful opposite field home run that gets the run back in the bottom of the second. The add on runs in the sixth were icing on the cake.
3. The Twins have only 3 hits after the second inning. On top of that, our pitchers controlled M&M for the second straight game. 2 for 16 in 2 games.

Defense continues to be more than adequate. Bullpen is making strides in getting to the next level. The guys seem to enjoy each other, and are beginning to play off of each other, complementing the skills of each one. Good days ahead. Good night all.

Besides Coke out with the groin injury, our manager has not used Downs in five days and Rondon for four days. Why?? The last four days our manager has had a four man bullpen. We need to have Downs, Rondon and Valverde ready to go tomorrow and I’m sure they are.

yea DOK i agree where was downs? why try al al again – matchups maybe, but I would have gotten down or rondon into this game. But hey what do we know maybe those guys were having bad days or something today.

particularly encouraging for me today was prince and alex having good plate appearances. these guys are semi-non replaceable parts of the club and we need them making quality PAs. I hear kaline is working with alex – what a blessing to have him intimately involved in the club!?

If Jim’s handling of the bullpen seems a little strange, I’d guess it’s because he’s trying to figure out how to run it. We just changed two pieces of a seven man pen, so that’s a chunk. Coke’s injury is complicating things and Alburquerque’s performance tonight didn’t help. It appears Smyly can do whatever job he’s handed, so that’s a big plus. Rondon is an unknown at this point. JL will get it straight what he wants to do, but it may take awhile.
On the subject of pitching, Jeff Jones is a guy who’s not getting near the credit he deserves. His ability to spot things on video and also repair them has been first rate. Also, Verlander, Scherzer, and Porcello are using added pitches this season. This is shaping up into a legendary rotation.

Agreed, Jeff Jones has not gotten enough credit since he got the job. Max for one has made great strides under Jonesy and Max will often mention advice he put to use.

I think Victor would have been pinch run for in that spot anyway. Brookens needs to realize that you can rarely send him home if it’s even remotely close. Victor didn’t round third too well and may have even tweaked something at that point. Or not.

gawd lets hope not. stay tuned for that one tho!

I have not yet looked this morning for any news on Victor – I too thought he looked like he was gimping after he rounded first base. I got quite a kick out of AlAl thinking he got the strikeout – I said it right away and then Mario confirmed it – fitting he then walks the guy. Verlander is amazing that he can control himself after a rocky start and then get into a groove, shows just how much of a pro he is and how mature he has gotten with his emotions – not always mind you but for the most part he keeps himself in check. Another great win.

Beck tweeted that he did not noticed Victor limping

For you Avila fans, a Twins’ broadcaster announced he is taking extra BP and focusing on going the opposite way. The Tigers’ staff is reportedly working on his jumping out at the ball and opening up too much and/or too early. I think the fellow who reported is a sub(?), but he sure sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

tigers have been hitting the past 7 days or so – but not because we’re getting lucky .314 BABIP as a team. for comparison boston has a .419 BABIP the past 7 days.

Sounds like everybody and their respective brothers noticed Victor taking a funny step last night. Eagle eyed Tiger fans.

First in OBP in MLB

2nd. close tho 400 for boston 377 for detroit

MLB has them tied for first with Colorado at 348. BoSox with 347

And Fangraphs too

The page linked is for the last week only

Sorry, you mentioned it and did not noticed

Went back to the Twins’ TV broadcast. Ron Coomer is the announcer who I believe reported on Avila. Both Coomer and his partner, Breemer(?), commented on Martinez and noted something looked amiss as he rounded first in his last AB. Also, the video showed Martinez coming out of the box okay, albeit in his typical slower fashion. He just does not move well, regardless.
