Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers at Royals

The Tigers have hit four home runs in 19 1/3 innings off Wade Davis over the last two seasons, including three homers in two starts in 2011 when he was in the Rays rotation. However, Davis comes to town on a roll with the Royals, having shut down the Twins and Braves in his last two starts, both Royals shutout wins. Those 12 shutout innings have seen him allow just two extra-base hits, both doubles, while striking out 13.

  1. Austin Jackson, CF (1-for-8, walk, 2 K’s off Wade Davis)
  2. Torii Hunter, RF (3-for-7, 2 K’s off Davis)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B (2-for-10, 2 HR, walk, 2 K’s off Davis)
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B (0-for-1 off Davis)
  5. Victor Martinez, DH (1-for-9, 2 walks, K off Davis)
  6. Andy Dirks, LF (1-for-4 off Davis)
  7. Jhonny Peralta, SS (2-for-11, walk, K off Davis)
  8. Alex Avila, C (2-for-7, 2 HR, 2 walks, K off Davis)
  9. Omar Infante, 2B (0-for-4 off Davis)

P: Max Scherzer

you mean, rather, davis is due!

This is going to be a directional series, as in, which direction are we going here?
I hope Jim doesn’t stick Rondon into some crazy bases loaded nobody out situation. Sounds like hyperbole, but Jim has done it before.
In four years when they make up the list of who was injured in the WBC, will Dotel be included on that list?

good points rich. and i hope JL doesn’t – he should know that IS% was an issue at AAA!

Rich – Actually that scenario worked out great for the Tigers if I remember correctly. They did it to showcase Chance Ruffin as part of the Fister deal. And Seattle selected Ruffin over Smyly, which worked out great for us.

Hey, that made me literally LOL. You’re right!

“Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers at Royals”

Sorry to nitpick, but the game tonight is in Detroit, right?

Good one. Hey, Jason are you at the Royals park?? Give us your location!!!!!

How about we let Rondon be a closer?? That’s the ultimate goal isn’t it??

I think he could close. The problem I saw in Spring Training, is he cannot pitch back to back days

Benoit for now and give Rondon his own inning to work. That’s how I’d start out.

Wow, I beat the official announcement by about two minutes. Jim and I have always thought alike…….and everybody goes “WHAT???”

Beck:”Leyland said he’ll try to mix in Rondon in 6th inning or so starting out. No plans to close with him.”

Yoervis Medina was thrown literally to the Tigers last week and he SO Miguel. He walked a run in before . But still, it was his first game ever. It is not Leyland only
I remember Manny Ramirez hitting a GS vs the first pitch of a Tigers reliever

If anyone knows who Craig Custance is, this is something he tweeted this afternoon:
“Jose Valverde on my flight to Detroit. Looks like he’s back.”

Isn’t that how he’d get to Toledo?

It’s simple. Just give Rondon the seventh inning after the starter is removed after the end of six innings of work. That should happen once or twice a week.

Toledo is playing in Durham tonight.

6th inning??? Drew Smyly on Saturday is the only relief pitcher we have used in the sixth inning in the last ten days. Okay so maybe he just knows that Scherzer, Verlander or Sanchez is just due for a short outing. He wants Rondon to replace Zumaya for this summer. That is wrong. We can not let that happen.
