Opening Day lineups: Tigers at Twins

Omar Infante and Prince Fielder are the only Tigers who have faced Twins Opening Day starter Vance Worley, so there’s going to be a learning process here.

  1. Austin Jackson, CF
  2. Torii Hunter, RF (11-for-50, 9 K’s at Target Field)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B (1-for-3 vs. Worley)
  5. Victor Martinez, DH
  6. Andy Dirks, LF
  7. Jhonny Peralta, SS
  8. Alex Avila, C
  9. Omar Infante, 2B (0-for-6 off Worley)

P: Justin Verlander

  1. Aaron Hicks, CF
  2. Joe Mauer, C (20-for-57, 3 HR, 9 RBIs off Verlander, but 0-for-6 last year)
  3. Josh Willingham, LF (1-for-8, 3 K’s off Verlander)
  4. Justin Morneau, 1B (2-for-18, 10 K’s off Verlander since 2009)
  5. Ryan Doumit, DH (0-for-9, 2 K’s off Verlander)
  6. Chris Parmelee, RF (2-for-6, HR off Verlander)
  7. Trevor Plouffe, 3B (3-for-15, 5 K’s off Verlander)
  8. Brian Dozier, 2B
  9. Pedro Florimon, SS (0-for-2 off Verlander)

P: Vance Worley

do NOT pitch to Joe Maurer. OK JUSTIN? especially not in the 1st inning.

He discovered last year how to get him out: 0 for 6 as Beck pointed

mmhmmph i t’wouldn’t mess with him. IMO this lineup is soft and JM can be avoided without significant consequences

JM during Spring Training: hitting .452/.553/.613 in 38 plate appearances.

Miguel at Target Field:396/.474/.673/1.147 6HR

who is behind home plate today? i’ll look it up but it is important to justin. some umps help him some hurt him.

Take it easy, bro. 🙂

For, lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of the singing of birds is come,
And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.

Thanks Rich, we miss you Ernie.

Be careful there. That’s an original by one Ernie Harwell.

I assumed everyone knew that.

Ernie was quoting the Bible, Song of Solomon 2:11-13.

former Tiger Rusty Staub throwing out first pitch in NY for Mets. was an all-star in ’76 with Fidrych and LeFlore

Fidrych, the first Tiger I followed.
And LeFlore , a great story with a bad part II

I’ve got a doubleheader today with the Nats home opener at 1 PM. Trying to get all this work done, I’m probably messin’ it all up. Should have taken the day off.

wat kinda work you in anyhow, rich?

Health care, but don’t let that worry you!

data analysis and scientific writing, over here.

Anybody having difficulty getting on the web pages?

Working fine here.

Are you having problems with the “stats” pages???

Hope they have the heaters out. It’s awful cold outside. Opening Day is finally here! Go Tigers!!!!!!!!

DOK, no just getting on to the Tigers website in order to try to get gameday and

no problems here slowbyrne – i went to the gamecast on mlb and clicked on the audio (i don’t have the tv package)

I am very stoked to see it was not an earlier start time, I can see most the game when I get home! Finally here! I got all smiley when I officially saw VMart on the lineup!

Oh boy……they were just showing the dugout….the players look absolutely miserable. Keep loose guys.

Just saw becks twitter comment on the heated infield….why not spend the money on a retractable roof?

Nice first inning by the hitters…..:). Miguel’s first error…….Justin looks ok. I thought off the bat Mornous hit.was going to drop in.

As usual, JV working a little too much

Yep of course Miguel’s error didn’t help.

I have read a couple of journalist from Detroit saying there was no error . I was a legit hit

Let the Rod Allen…Torri Hunter lovefest begin. I think Rod dreams about Torri.

Evan was right about Mauer

mmmhmmmm good boy justin

It would be nice if theyd cash in just a few more base runners. Stranding quite a few.

One more inning. And Smily?

Isn’t this the same thing that we’ve seen in previous years…..start out looking like you might have a nice day hitting and scoring runs and they just stop? Hopefully if oesnt bite us in the butt.

Worley going the same distance as Verlander. Old habits die hard

interesting move about smyly and pulling jv

Long reliever and heavy LH lineup. It was common sense

And he paints himself in the corner

Drew ya need to throw strikes

Calling Captain Hook

C’mon Drew.

Predictable………..why am I surprised. They stopped hitting and there ya go.

I’m frustrated…..

RH, SW, LH: Downs

Oh, my, that could easily have been a HR. Better knock on wood!!!

Get Drew the heck out of there. This is ridiculous

It was time for Downs

As I said a few days ago: light a candle.

I thought the Tigers traded Andy Oliver.

Am I allowed to call for Leyland’s firing 1 game into the season? Still no clue how to use a bullpen

Cripes, we need an out here.

New Mexico to the rescue!!!!!

Dirks is one of our better bunters.

Here is when a pinch- runner comes in

Here is when Avila OBP can payoff

He should let it hit him…..that’s the only way these guys will score another run. Take one for the team alex you get hit all the time

Or a wild pitch

Coke to close

So, will we see Postseason Phil or his impersonator?

One dot on the scoreboard. Two to go.

Woo, hoo.

One for the committee

Yippie…although I feel like that was a lot closer than need be.

well, pretty nervewracking for the first game of the season, but great to start off with a win on a miserable day for all the players. Bullpen did their job, albeit Smyly had a rough go. 1-0!!

al alq and coke pitched great! jv pitched pretty good. prince, jhonny and torii hit well. everyone played good baseball – but alex had a hard day at the plate.
good win tho.

It was far too cold to play baseball. There should be an under 40 postponement rule.

I liked the way Jim used the pen. If Smyly had been sharp, he could have finished the game. This will be fun (or at least interesting) to watch as it plays out.
It adds an extra dimension.

It was a good decision that ended bad. Still the right call

I liked the way he ran the bullpen with Benoit pitching to Willingham and then bringing in Coke. I would not have wanted to be in the stands for that game. It had to be tough on the hands on jam shots.

I actually gotta bookmark this excellent website this indicates very helpful.
