Thursday: Tigers at Astros

Andy Dirks returns to the starting lineup in left field, which pretty much rules out what was left of the possibility he would open the year on the disabled list. Prince Fielder is the DH for a second consecutive day.

TIGERS

  1. Austin Jackson, CF
  2. Torii Hunter, RF
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B
  4. Prince Fielder, DH
  5. Victor Martinez, 1B
  6. Andy Dirks, LF
  7. Jhonny Peralta, SS
  8. Alex Avila, C
  9. Omar Infante, 2B

P: Anibal Sanchez

I like this lineup.
Has there been rotation announcements? Is it Verlander-FIster-Scherzer-Sanchez-Porcello?

Zduriencik says decision on Wells/Bay won’t come until Sunday. Here’s latest on the blog. http://gregjohns.mlblogs.com/

Or do Scherzer and Fister flip-flop?

Leyland said rotation will be announced today or tomorrow. Final roster spot will be decided today.

my guess is Worth is optioned. releasing Santiago would hurt their backup MI depth at MLB/AAA level.

He can always be let go or traded down the road (santiago) and then you bring up worth etc.

They didn’t let Brennan go and his salary is somewhat similar or more. Too lazy to look it up, but they didn’t want to lose the money. I’m guessing we’ll see Ramon.

Danny could drive that stretch of I-75 in his sleep, not that I’m suggesting he try that. I suppose a few more times won’t hurt him. His time is definitely coming soon.

Sure he has!!! In the back of the Yellow Cab playing his guitar, too!! To Detroit: Pickin and a Grinin. To Toledo: Frownin and a drownin.

although Avila took the blame for Rondon’s balk yesterday, wonder if that sealed the decision in Leyland’s mind about keeping him in minors. perhaps a sign that the game is moving too fast for him at this point.

It seemed like every time I saw Rondon pitch with a man on base the umpire would have the catcher talk to him about his set position.

well sanchez looks good today.

I guessed wrong about Rondon and I do respect JL. He knows more about his players than I do.

We should not take the Astros lightly during the regular season. Two more games with the Rays including some indoor play. Then it will be on to MN.

Opening coming soon and we some concerns brewing. A couple of our starters are not ready yet. Hopefully that is all it is and not a more serious cause for their inability to throw well.
Our hitting still shows signs of going to sleep collectively. This is a team that should be bashing the ball around the yard with more consistency.
No closer? We can all say that that is OK or that JL has done it before, etc. The truth is, a dynamite closer brings the fear factor into the opposing line-up. The sight of a lights out guy getting, even ready to warm up, can deflate those guys in the dugout waiting to hit.
I hope this “committee” quickly finds a Chairman of the Board.

Good point. By May 1st I’d like to see a duo chairman combo of Benoit and Smyly. Go with talent.

Lifetime averages of our bench guys: Pena .248, Santiago .245, Kelly .232, and Tuiasosopo somewhere under .200. Matt really represents the arrival of Brad Eldred but almost one month sooner than last year. ST highlights for them?? All of them hit homers. In fact, as a team they hit 11!!! Lots of doubles too. Compare that to what Inge, Raburn, Kelly, Santiago, Worth and Laird did last regular season. Those six players nailed seven roundtrippers for the Bengals during our 162 game schedule. My sincere apologies to Danny if he makes the team. Really he needs 400 ABs at Toledo to prove he can hit RH pitching. He sure plays some solid defense. Great plate discipline. And go for those doubles. That’s your ticket to this team.

What are the odds of DD finding a taker for Ramon?

Santiago is a better option than Ronny Cedeño.

Well Sanchez sucked today!

When the opponent has a zip code containing no zeroes on the scoreboard you generally lose.
