Thursday: Tigers at Mets

With two long trips to Florida’s Atlantic coast in three days, the Tigers are splitting up their travel squads so that most players only have to make one trip. Most of the regulars are on today’s trek to Port St. Lucie to face the Mets, including Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Victor Martinez, Alex Avila and Omar Infante.

I’m off for the next few days rather than driving across the state, but I’ll try to keep the blog updated from time to time, at least with the lineups.

TIGERS

  1. Quintin Berry, CF
  2. Andy Dirks, LF
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B Victor Martinez, DH
  5. Victor Martinez, DH Matt Tuiasosopo, 1B
  6. Alex Avila, C
  7. Avisail Garcia, RF
  8. Omar Infante, 2B
  9. Danny Worth, SS

Today: Well, I sure do not agree with Tuiasosopo getting more playing time than Castellanos. I mean, c’mon! Seriously? It’s clear that NC is going to end up in Toledo but let’s see what he can do. At least management has figured out that It is clear that NC doesn’t hit as a part-timer!

Tuiasosopo
Threeasosopo

Five…….
Sounds like a jump rope chant or someone counting seconds in his head.

Anyone else having trouble with the audio. I’m not getting it on my computer or radio.

OK, that did it. It just came on.

I hope we don’t see that kind of approach (Infante’s at bat) too much this year. Spring training OK–but not regular season.

It is his style . Career with first pitch: 345/.343/.452.795 . Better with 0-1:349/.342/.474/.816

Infante with a nice 2 out opposite field RBI liner to score the 9th run. check the video highlights.

“A frozen rope” per Jim Price.

Lord have mercy, our BP.

anyone know what Jim and Dan thought about Rondon’s performance today? I missed their comments

Dan Dickerson ‏@Dan_Dickerson
….Rondon took mound in 9th, and had easily best inn. of spring. Threw slider for strikes – both called, plus a couple of swings and misses

hey thanks woody! that’s just great to hear!!! I knew the box looked like he had a good time but throwing that slider for strikes is key!

Fister would be the Ace in any team different of Tigers and Mariners. He is and was behind the best pitcher of the moment.

Berry had a nice diving catch on one, but earlier got a late jump on one that fell in.
Seems like the roster is falling into place nicely.
Memo to Dave B.: Tuiasosopo would need a short nickname and quick. I still spell out Alburquerque just because I’m stubborn.

Yu can tell we are old skool making sure everyting is rite.

” Justin Verlander starting Opening Day, the Tigers carry a one-run lead into the ninth. Does Rondon, at the age of 22, get the call right away?”
Freddy Dolsi debut against Manny Ramirez.. Alberto Figaro starting with the season in jeopardy. Rick Porcello, the rookie for game 163.
Yes.

well we know this: Bruce Rondon can handle the Mets minor leaguers. what is that 3 times he’s faced them – all that end of the game? At least his stuff is looking better. Back to back outings for him is next.

The best bench: Koubernus, Worth,Peña,Russo

1-2-3 for Dotel. The ball never left the IF

I really don’t like this stuff with Rondon coming in in the ninth. By then, all the major leaguers have been relieved. When the Grapefruit League started they told us Rondon would come in in the middle innings so he’d face major leaguers; he had four poor outings, took a week off, and now he’s only pitching against A ball players. I think they’re just not willing to admit he’s not ready for prime time, possibly because they’re still trying to swing a deal for a closer.

can’t disagree with you there!

Does Brennan clear waivers today? Aren’t they 48 hours? This would mean he is effectively a free agent.

I know that reckless 1st pitch swinging is part of who Omar is but I do hope we don’t see it in situations like we saw yesterday. Bases loaded and the pitcher plunking some Tigers and walking the others. In Spring, yes, OK, hack away, but when it comes time to winning ballgames for real then you have to employ some plate discipline and hitting strategy.
I like O and I think he will give us good coverage at 2B (hopefully the brain farts on DP plays go away). I know he will hit well enough to solidfy the bottom of the lineup somewhat.
