Monday: Tigers vs. Mets

Another start in left field for Jeff Kobernus against a lefty, this time against Jonathon Niese. On the flip side, a lefty starter means a day off for Victor Martinez. Torii Hunter will start at DH, with Avisail Garcia in right field.

The Mets sent a couple more of their regulars today than they did on Friday, including Ike Davis and Lucas Duda.

Not impressed with sitting Castellanos so much. Makes no sense. They have already made up their mind and are likely a little apprehensive about the guy tearing up the grapefruit where it makes their decision (and I repeat, probably the right one) of sending him down controversial.
They should still be giving him at bats.

Not controversial at all. He plays outfield like a high schooler. We already have a DH.

he needs to get in reps in AAA. he will. and he’ll be back. Injuries or end of season roster expansion.

Andy Oliver’s spring for Pittsburgh: 2 1/3 IP; 6 hits; 5 walks; 4 runs

wait you’d rather him start in RF instead of Garcia today? I think neither should make the big team unless playing every day.
interesting to see what worth and kobernus can do today with the bat and Rondon on the mound.
When is Miguel back?

ah tomorrow! thanks beck

I am guessing Peralta has an iodine allergy from the seafood he ate? My wife carries Benadryl into the restaurants when she orders seafood. Keeps her from turning into one biog red welt.

danny worth playin good SS. kinda hope he gets the job. they’re def takin a look at him and kobernus.

with that said I think Ramon is seeing the ball quite well right now.

The team is better with Danny than Ramon. Sorry to say.
As to Castellanos I would have give equal time in left with Kobernus. You can also DH him to get him much needed at bats.

“Fielder reaches base o.., draws ovation from crowd for headfirst slide”. Headfirst is slower and more dangerous than the traditional slide

little leaguesq

True but it shows something called desire. In amateur ball you often get the call. MLB umps are supposed to know better and not be influenced but judging from the decline in umping over the years…ya’ never know. Now should Prince do this in ST? No.
And realistically you don’t want to risk broken fingers or jammed shoulders.

i think justin just killed a man. or at least that’s what it sounds like from the radio broadcast

I think Jerry Layne has umped every single game at Lakeland. Wonder if that’s the norm?

i thought rondon for the 6th….whatev

Awful game today. Sloppy.

While I enjoy listening to Jim and Dan, Say It Twice needs to come up with a different schtick. A bit tiresome hearing about the Art of Pitching, the Athleticism of Catchers and the Big Man.

Oh, that’s what makes them like family. After listening to fox broadcasters and out of town broadcasters, I love hearing Dan and Jim.

That’s probably true. I’m sure my wife says the same about me!

i like dan and jim alot – much much much more than rod and marie. with that said, maybe jim could try to change it up a little more …. talk about lefties and catchers a smidge less

marie = mario

Bruce Rondon. Hope he does OK.

Would anybody here trade Porcello for Andrus?

sure but the rangers wouldn’t. not to mention you’d have 2 SS’s and 0 guys outside of the 5 in the rotation to start a game.

“We’ve got a Rule 5 guy [Jeff Kobernus] we’re looking at. We’ve got [Avisail] Garcia. We’ve got [Quintin] Berry. We’ve got [Brennan] Boesch. We’ve got Dirks. We’ve got a lot of guys,” Leyland said. “I’m not worried about left field. Left field will take care of itself.”
Link on the right side , Tigers news, about Dirks

How about we throw in Peralta?

I’d do that deal but I hear you about Ricky. It would have to be a momentous trade in order to deal him off. We have no help in Toledo as to a starting pitcher. Zilch.
This is actually a conundrum for management. 6 starters all deserving to do just that.

Unless I miss my guess, that 6th starter will be needed not too far into the season. Maybe before April is out. Things happen. Then management will look like geniuses for keeping all of them.
