Thursday: Tigers at Braves

Brennan Boesch makes his first big league start of the spring in left field tonight. With left field taken, Jeff Kobernus gets another start at second. Jim Leyland suggested he could move Kobernus from second to left midgame at some point in the coming days to get him some much-needed time in left, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see that this evening.

Victor Martinez is back in the lineup at DH, but with left-handers Jonny Venters and Luis Avilan on the pitching list for the Braves, Leyland warned that he’ll lift Martinez again if his spot comes up against a lefty.

another day, another laird

Jim and Dan just love Drew.

I think Jeff K is playing 2B is just to get his bat in the line-up due to abundannce of LF they have.

if jeff can hit lefties – he most likely has a job IMO

if Jeff and Don Kelly made the team instead of Brennan and Ramon — I wouldn’t be upset

I would put D Kelly on the team because he can be a defensive replacement for so many positions (LF, RF, 3B and 1B) and plays them really well. He can also pinch run and play CF, 2b and catch in a pinch. Thinking we have a lot of slows guys (Vmart, AA, PF, Miggy) on the team and when one of the slow guys is replace by a pinch runner, Kelly can come and play that position. Unfortunately if Boesch doesn’t get traded, DD mention he makes the team and that leaves the 25th man for a right handed bat that can play left field. Unless they are going to use Boesch to hit against lefties. The 25th spot is made for D Kelly especially at age 33.

Ramon makes the team, unless hurt, because he is a switch hitter that can relieve JP against lefties and Omar against tough righties. He also makes over 2 million dollars.

any word on what happened to Anibal today? looks like he got 1 guy out but 3 hits and a walk (2 ERs)

Got rained out, from what I read on Detroit Free Press.

Single, error, double. Then came a rain delay and he was out of the game. It wasn’t the Free Press, but some blog I caught the stats from. I’m also watching on MLB Network but didn’t tune in until after Anibal was out of the game. I’ve never seen anything like it when the game was delayed for at least 10 to 20 minutes because there was some debate about the baseballs.

Enrique Gonzalez is pitching now.
One E of Sanchez opened the gates
1 /3 of inning 2 ER.
I cant say more now because there was a blackout. After watching the summary in the middle 7, I will tell the rest

I’m just wondering where Castellanos will end up this spring. Double A, Triple A?

i’d say AAA, nearly for sure

It is only ST but he will be in the Big Show this year

Sandoval and now the games is 5-2

It will unfair if Smyly is sent back to AAA or the bullpen

I think Smyly is going to be starting in Detroit. He is just a quality pitcher.

Kobernus has a better case than Kelly.
And 2 MM?, they have eaten more than that before

People here is blaming Andrus for throwing to 3b instead of going for the DP but the game was already 2-0

Dotel is in

Hit on the first pitch, bad throw by Hanley. IFH

Dotel inside pitch to Miguel

Walk for Cabrera, nothing to hit

Dotel – Sandoval. Fly out to shallow center

Miguel pulls a Gallarraga at first ( like Andres)

Dotel lost home

30 pitches 15-15

2 consecutive walks

Dotel out

1 walk and a hit

1 hit/2 BB/2 SO

16-16

Miguel with a big catch on the throw to keep the DP

Smyly has always impressed me and I always had a hard time hitting lefties. He should be in the rotation this year!

“Both will be quality major league starters this year,” Dombrowski said of Porcello and Smyly, “and both deserve to start.”

From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130307/SPORTS0104/303070314#ixzz2MujPaiJH

Mr. D is right about that. Both are bonified starters. Drew could probably tolerate it, if he had to, but I don’t think Rick would be very happy. In the WS, “the freak” came out of the bullpen and slammed the door. You have to do what is best for the team.

Not good for the team. If he keep pulling the ball more RBI will come. Il take a HR over a single always from the cleanup spot

“I would never tell you any type of discussions that we are or are not having. And I don’t mean that we are or are not. Because if I tell you one way or the other, it’s very big news, and it becomes a distraction.” – Dave Dombrowski

Sojo says that the Tigers ordered Sanchez out after the rain delay

iiiiiinteresting!

And now, he wants to use him on sunday vs Spain. Only 20 pitches. Just say no

In spanish, about using him again:

Tony Peña: Miguel will not defeat us. Nothing in the strike zone
