Saturday: Tigers vs. Blue Jays
Unless the Twins start a left-hander like Scott Diamond, this is the Tigers’ Opening Day lineup. As promised, Jim Leyland will trot out his starters so that fans who made the trip to Florida this early to see Spring Training games can say they saw all the regulars. Normally, he’d do it in the Florida Southern exhibition, but with that exhibition moved back to March 16, he’ll do it against the Jays.
Another bonus: Fans will get to see Bruce Rondon in his first outing in his bid for the closer’s job. Leyland said Rondon will most likely pitch the fifth inning.
Remember, while this game will be on radio live at 97.1 FM in Detroit and MLB Gameday Audio online, the telecast will be on tape delay (unless you live in Canada, where you can watch on Sportsnet). MLB Network will have the re-broadcast at midnight ET.

Of course, they need to get rid of the heavy bad contract before or lose Cabrera. 275/10 to keep the player already HoF worthy

It was only one meaningless game.
lots of JV contract talk – and more generally speaking: the long term direction of the team.
.
So here’s my two cents: I’d like to know how many wins per million dollars JV can optimally get us. I’m thinking a WAR/Million dollars kinda thing. Because I wanna know how best to spend the money…is it best to have 5- 7.5 million dollar (average) guys or 2 guys with 15 million dollar contracts and 3 guys with 1 million dollar contracts?
.
I just don’t know the answers so I’m not going to make a judgement call but I can tell you this: the rotation is bigger than any one pitcher.
here is some 2012 tigers WAR and $$ numbers….for example here it looks like JV is a better investment than miggy or prince

Yes, their bad defense took a lot from both Miguel and Fielder.
Long term direction.. and short term:
“Detroit Tigers raise single-game ticket prices across the board, eliminate $5 bargain seats”
Plus:
“Would you pay $5 to watch early BP? A lot of #Tigers fans are. Good crowd on LF berm at Marchant Stadium – keeping what they catch” @Tom_Gage
The 5 dollars for early BP: absolutely. Was it free in the past…i don’t know.
.
And as far as tickets being more expensive http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/det/ticketing/seating_pricing.jsp well they don’t look like more than a dollar or three more expensive for the bleacher tickers I usually purchase.
.
I’m more concerned with beer prices http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/04/24/beer-prices-across-mlb-stadiums/ we’re like the WORST!!!
so what does the calf issue with ramon do to his chances of making the team? nothing probably…almost increases his chances because what can we do with him?
Eat his contract?
yea i guess so -> it seems like yesterday everyone gave the thumbs up on resigning him.

that is a very nice article, thanks.
Your welcome
Getting excited for the 2013 season with all this Spring training info. What a great line up after living thru the late 90′s. The Tigers have got to sign JV. He WANTS to be a Tiger. Miggy will earn his money and then what? Prince is not going anywhere. It is a great day to be a Tiger fan. Hey Rich, still jealous after I just finished snow blowing the driveway
Go Tigers, 2013! –Dave
82 degrees there
Not a good way to earn an spot for Hill
shawn hill had a tough time today!
go get him jones!
No he’s had a ruff outing, to say the least.
Rough…..
Top 5, Rondon
The roller coaster is on
As expected from our closer a little heart attack before ending it
2 Ks, 1BB, and a double that should have been a routine flyball. Whatev it’s spring training. he’s obviously can strike out major leaguers.
The pressure of being anointed the closer with all media waiting him to fail, is higher than being a closer
glad we have a guy like Doc Oc to help him handle the situation.
.
in other news, Robowski lookin good – not.
Lots of wind out there today. Hope Rich and wife are having fun! Let us know, Rich. Let us know!
