Tigers formally announce 2-year deal with Torii Hunter

The Tigers made it official on their two-year deal with Torii Hunter, formally announcing the contract. He’ll be introduced to Detroit in a press conference at 4pm.

“Torii Hunter is a quality Major League player who is a tremendous addition to the Tigers organization both on and off the field,” team president/general manager David Dombrowski said in a statement. “He continues to be a consistent contributor at the plate, in the outfield and on bases, and we feel Torii is a great fit for our lineup.”

Henning is selling the idea of trading Peralta. With Hunter, they can afford Worth playing SS. According to him , the Tigers finally realized that Worth did not get a fair
chance to show his value

I have no problem with moving Peralta in favor of Worth. Just don’t give Jhonny away, get something of value.

Just what exactly has Worth done at any level to get the nod over JP? I do not get any of this negativity about JP. He is flawed like any other player out there but has nice career offensive numbers, is only 30, is fairly cheap and is solid defensively. For the most part, the Tigers have pitchers who K hitters. With the exception of Porcello, this is not a staff that throws grounders and needs to be bailed out by guys with range.

Side with Evan and Richard on this subject. In fact, Richard absolutely nailed it below.

a) the Jays just signed Melky Cabrera – so it’s looking like the Jays are stacking chips.
b) How does having Hunter change what you need at SS? Isn’t Hunter going to play RF and an upgrade over what was there previously? Plus what would get for Peralta anyhow?

There is no need for the bat. Only reason to keep Peralta

i guess that is fair, however, his offensive numbers are really not that impressive…to me at least.

Evan, that point even furthers the argument to use Worth. I think I’d like to see Worth in the everyday rotation one way or the other for the first few months of the season. If it works out, shop Peralta.

eeewwwwww the LAST thing i want this year is an infield that has a different look constantly. omar couldn’t even turn double plays at some point. I’m convinced this coaching staff doesn’t even practice defense after spring training.
.
Get Peralta outta town before ST or have keep him for the year — but please no repeat of this season.
.
And furthermore – all this talk about Worth ….. what the living fudge is going to happen to Ramon Fatigue-I mean-Santiago?

does anyone know if tori hunter press cunferance will be on live?

“Watch Torii Hunter become a Tiger live at 4 pm ET on http://t.co/6pHtG0FU . #tigers”
@tigers

Torii will be introduced at 4:00pm. The Detroit papers say he’s in town to be introduced and is looking for housing. Wondering if the intro will be FSD, MLB Network and if it will actually be shown live at 4:00. Maybe the Tiger website will show it live. On my way out to the store and I sure would hate to miss the interview.

and, see him put on the Old English D.

to buy twinkies and ding-dongs if there are any left:(

What’s up Tiger fans? Just landed in Detroit looking for a place to stay. Any suggestion?

Too bad they didn’t stream the conference I couldn’t find it anywhere? Did I miss it? I went to the website at 4 and 4:15 and there was nothing. Anybody know why or if the found it somewhere?

“Dombrowski: Garcia, Castellanos will have chance to compete for other corner OF spot in camp, but will have to do more than face lefties.”
I guess they cant pencil themselves in the lineup

Any truth to the rumor that Ozzie Guillen will be hired to manage the Blue Jays?
Just kidding.

Nice…good one Rich! :)

DD has taken a very sensible position on both Garcia and Castellanos. If these kids only play against LHP and/or on defense, they will not develop like they should. Neither AG nor NC is truly MLB ready. If rushed, they might well turn into platoon players who never actualize their respective potentials to mature into impact players.

I read a couple of recent articles about Hunter in the Times. At least one indicated the Tigers overpaid for him. The Angels purportedly offered Hunter only a 1 year deal at $5M.

And Torii said that he felt disrespected by that offer, and was scouting his next team for the rest of the season.

If Sanchez does not want to come back, Kuroda would be a nice sign. He likes 1 year deals, can be dynamite and seems affordable. Also, the Yanks are seemingly no longer the Yanks and may not be a financial competitor for his services, although the Dodgers could be in the mix since they now spend like the Yanks of old.

Hey would you mind letting me know which webhost you’re working with?
I’ve loaded your blog in 3 completely different browsers and I must say this blog
loads a lot faster then most. Can you recommend a good internet hosting
provider at a reasonable price? Thanks, I appreciate it!
